Beyond specific applications, such as the relative or absolute quantification of peptides in targeted proteomic experiments, synthetic spike-in peptides are not yet systematically used as internal standards in bottom-up proteomics. A number of retention time standards have been reported that enable chromatographic aligning of multiple LC-MS/MS experiments. However, only few peptides are typically included in such sets limiting the analytical parameters that can be monitored. Here, we describe PROCAL (ProteomeTools Calibration Standard), a set of 40 synthetic peptides that span the entire hydrophobicity range of tryptic digests, enabling not only accurate determination of retention time indices but also monitoring of chromatographic separation performance over time...

BACKGROUND: Prior evidence suggests that high-calcium intake influences postprandial appetite and insulinemia, possibly due to elevated incretins. In vitro and ex vivo models demonstrate that extracellular calcium and protein synergistically enhance secretion of incretins. This is yet to be shown in humans. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to assess energy intake compensation in response to protein and calcium ingestion. METHODS: Twenty healthy adults (13 men; 7 women) completed 4 trials in a randomized, double-blind crossover design separated by ≥48 h...

to analyse the antimicrobial activity of procalment solutions. The antimicrobial action of procalment solution and its components to the microorganism standard cultures (Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, sporic bacteria and fungi) and bacteria clinical strains has been studied. It has been found that the sensitivity of bacteria to procalment solutions depends on the structure of microorganism cell wall: procalment solutions are antimicrobially active against S. aureus, S. epidermidis, S. pyogenes, S...

BACKGROUND: Serum procalcitonin concentrations have been reported to be elevated in patients with bacterial infection. Early enteral nutrition (EN) has been shown to decrease infections in trauma patients. The purpose of this study was to characterize procalcitonin and other serum proteins during EN of trauma patients based on EN tolerance and presence of infection. METHODS: Twenty traumatized patients received a high-protein enteral formulation within 5 days of injury...

The dynamics of change in the component composition of dendrodochines in the process of cultivation of Dendrodochium toxicum 100115 has been studied. It has been shown on the basis of the data of thin-layer chromatography that verrucarines A and J are found during the whole period of the fungus growth. Rhoridines A and E in the initial period of cultivation (1-2 days) are found in trace quantities only. Rhoridine A is found on the 1-3 and 8-10th days of the producer cultivation and its content is inconsiderable only on the 4-6th day...

The alkaline effect of seven Ca(OH)2 liners was studied, using extractions with unbuffered 0.9% NaCl solutions and buffered bacterial growth media. The antibacterial effect was studied by cultivating Streptococcus mutans in the presence of liner specimens. All liners made the NaCl solutions strongly alkaline (pH greater than 10), although MPC and Reolite released much less Ca than did Dycal, Life, Procal, Renew, and Reocap-E. The weaker alkaline effect of MPC and Reolite was shown by the extractions with the growth media...

The effects of four lining materials, Dycal, Procal, Cavitec and Poly F cement on Adaptic and Concise have been investigated in vitro. The parameters studied were surface roughness, hardness and colour both with and without an intermediate (or bonding) resin being present between the restorative material and the liner. The effects of the four liners on the composites varied both between the lining materials themselves and with the composite resin. Two materials, Procal and Dycal, had little interaction with the composites, provided an intermediate resin was used with the latter...

Patients with osteoporosis were treated for two years with sodium fluoride. Fifteen received sodium fluoride in capsules, 56 in enteric coated slow release tablets (Ossin) and 20 in enteric coated tablets (Procal). Seven women treated with Procal were also treated with oestrogens. All patients had a calcium intake between 1000 and 2000 mg/day, used dihydrotachysterol for vitamin suppletion and were advised to exercise. Non-responders were arbitrarily defined as those who had an increase in serum alkaline phosphatase less than 10 U/l, those who had no increase in bone mineral content measured with CT in L4 and those who got a femoral neck fracture during the period of therapy...
