P-type doping is of critical importance for the realization of certain high performance electrical and optoelectronic devices based on molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ). The charge transfer doping is a feasible strategy for tuning the conductance properties via facile treatment. In this work, the electrical properties of few-layer MoS 2 were modulated with titanium(IV) bis(ammonium lactato) dihydroxide molecules (denoted as TALH) via physisorption. The functional groups such as electronegative hydroxyl (-OH) and carboxylate group (-COO) included in TALH molecules are expected to induce p-doping effect through surface charge transfer when being attached to MoS 2 ...

In order to develop a new type of improved wound dressing, we combined the wound healing properties of nanotitania with the advantageous dressing properties of nanocellulose to create three different hybrid materials. The hemocompatibility of the synthesized hybrid materials was evaluated in an in vitro human whole blood model. To our knowledge, this is the first study of the molecular interaction between hybrid nanotitania and blood proteins. Two of the hybrid materials prepared with 3 nm colloidal titania and 10 nm hydrothermally synthesized titania induced strong coagulation and platelet activation but negligible complement activation...

Extending the absorption range of TiO2 nanofibers to visible light is a great improvement of the photocatalytic property of TiO2 . In this study, TiO2 /WO3 /C/N nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning using precursors soluble in water then annealing in argon. Titanium(IV) bis(ammonium lactato)dihydroxide (TiBALDH) and ammonium metatungstate (AMT) were used as the precursor for TiO2 and WO3 respectively. Different volume ratios of the precursors were added to a solution of PVP before electrospinning. The fibers were studied by XPS, SEM-EDX, TEM, FTIR, XRD, Raman spectroscopy and UV-VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS)...

Natural organic matter (NOM), such as humic acids, fulvic acids, and tannic acids, is ubiquitous in water bodies and hinders the photodegradation of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs). We prepared titanium incorporated hierarchical diatoms as a novel photocatalyst to selectively remove PPCPs (triclosan, bisphenol A or BPA, and N, N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide or DEET) in the presence of NOM (humic acid). Diatom (Stephanodiscus hantzschii) grown in a titanium(IV) bis(ammonium lactato) dihydroxide solution integrated 7...

Serum lactate is a non-specific marker of tissue hypoperfusion. Elevated serum lactate is used in the differential diagnosis of acute intestinal ischemia. Although this practice is controversial, in the absence of other validated markers lactate is still used because of its high sensitivity. We present the cases of two patients who developed acute mesenteric ischemia as a post-surgical complication. The patients reported moderate abdominal pain -a non-specific symptom in the postoperative context- and tests showed progressively increasing serum lactate levels, which facilitated suspicion and subsequent diagnostic confirmation through an imaging test...

Bacterial cellulose is an organic product of certain bacterias' metabolism. It differs from plant cellulose by exhibiting a high strength and purity, making it especially interesting for flexible electronics, membranes for water purification, tissue engineering for humans or even as artificial skin and ligaments for robotic devices. However, bacterial cellulose's naturally slow growth rate has limited its large-scale applicability to date. Titanium (IV) bis-(ammonium lactato) dihydroxide is shown to be a powerful tool to boost the growth rate of bacterial cellulose production by more than one order of magnitude and that it simultaneously serves as a precursor for the Ti4+ -coordinated cross-linking of the fibers during membrane formation...

Titanium(IV) bis(ammonium lactato)dihydroxide (TiBALDH) and ammonium metatungstate (AMT) were used as water-soluble Ti and W precursors, respectively. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and varying ratios of TiBALDH and AMT were dissolved in a mixture of H2 O, EtOH and CH3 COOH. The as-spun fibers were then heated in air at 1 °C min-1 until 600 °C to form TiO2 /WO3 composite nanofibers. Fiber characterization was done using TG/DTA, SEM-EDX, FTIR, XRD, and Raman...

A biomimetic approach to the formation of titania (TiO2 ) nanostructures is desirable because of the mild conditions required in this form of production. We have identified a series of serine-lysine peptides as candidates for the biomimetic production of TiO2 nanostructures. We have assayed these peptides for TiO2 -precipitating activity upon exposure to titanium bis(ammonium lactato)dihydroxide and have characterized the resulting coprecipitates using scanning electron microscopy. A subset of these assayed peptides efficiently facilitates the production of TiO2 nanospheres...

Biomimetic mineralization has emerged as a novel tool for generating excellent supports for enzyme stabilization. In this work, protamine was used to induce titanium (IV) bis(ammonium lactato) dihydroxide (Ti-BALDH) into titania nanoparticles. This biomimetic titanification process was adopted for laccase immobilization. Laccase-biotitania biocatalyst was prepared and the effect of different parameters (buffer solution, titania precursor concentration, protamine concentration, and enzyme loading) on the encapsulation efficiency and recovery of laccase were evaluated...
