Ovarian carcinoma is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage with peritoneal dissemination and/or lymph node metastasis, and the prognosis for such advanced carcinoma is very poor. Therefore, new biomarkers to predict patient prognosis are needed. Miyamoto et al. previously showed that keratan sulfate (KS) detected by the 5D4 monoclonal antibody was expressed in ovarian carcinoma. However, the detailed structure of such KS was not determined, and the biological significance of this finding remained to be clarified...

OBJECTIVES: We analysed whether temporal heterogeneity of ctDNA encodes evolutionary patterns in ovarian cancer. METHODS: Targeted sequencing of 275 cancer-associated genes was performed in a primary tumor biopsy and in ctDNA of six longitudinal plasma samples from 15 patients, using the Illumina platform. RESULTS: While there was low overall concordance between the mutational spectrum of the primary tumor biopsies vs. ctDNA, TP53 variants were the most commonly shared somatic alterations...

This article reports a case of an ovarian collision tumour consisting of an ovarian fibroma and a serous cystadenoma. A 60-year-old woman exhibited symptoms of post-menopausal bleeding and abdominal pain persisting for three months. Computerized tomography identified a solid mass with a cystic component in the right adnexa, and the patient underwent staging laparotomy. Gross examination of the right ovary revealed a cystic tumour with adjacent solid mass. The histopathological analysis identified a cystic mass that matched the characteristics of a serous cystadenoma, with an adjacent solid mass that matched the characteristics of a sex-cord stromal tumour, both located in the right ovary...

Phthalate exposure can adversely impact ovarian reserve, yet investigation on the influence of its alternative substance, the non-phthalate plasticizer diisononyl-cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylate (DINCH), on ovarian reserve is very sparce. We aimed to investigate the associations of phthalate and DINCH exposure as well as their combined mixture with ovarian reserve. This present study included 657 women seeking infertility care in Jiangsu, China (2015-2018). Urine samples during enrollment prior to infertility treatment were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography-isotope dilution tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to quantify 17 phthalate metabolites and 3 DINCH metabolites...

OBJECTIVE: Clinical characteristics of patients with endometrioma without dysmenorrhea have not been well delineated; our goal was to remedy this issue by performing a retrospective cohort study. METHODS: A total of 379 patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery for endometrioma ≥4 cm at a tertiary hospital were included in this retrospective study. Patients were divided into two groups based on the presence of dysmenorrhea at the time of hospital visit; with dysmenorrhea group and without dysmenorrhea group...

BACKGROUND: Cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) is considered as the most important endpoint for assessing the probability of having a baby in a complete in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) treatment cycle. Many previous studies have focused on the association between thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) and live birth rate after first embryo transfer cycle, however, evidence on whether the presence of TAI affects the CLBR is lacking. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of TAI on the CLBR in a complete IVF/ICSI cycle...

BACKGROUND: The objective of our study was to investigate the risk factors for a decrease in ovarian reserve in patients with endometriomas after standardized laparoscopic procedures and evaluation to provide corresponding clinical guidance for patients with fertility requirements. METHODS: Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels and other clinical data from 233 patients with endometriomas and 57 patients with non-endometrioma ovarian cysts admitted to the Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2018 and September 2023 were prospectively analysed...

MIRRORS is the first of three planned trials: MIRRORS, MIRRORS-RCT (pilot), and MIRRORS-RCT. Hyperandrogenism in postmenopausal females may arise from either ovarian or adrenal sources and can pose a challenging diagnostic dilemma. We present the case of a 66-year-old female with postmenopausal hyperandrogenism with virilization, adrenal incidentaloma, and concurrent finding of two extremely rare ovarian tumors, including bilateral Leydig cell tumor and Brenner tumor. Laboratory tests showed elevated testosterone and androstenedione and normal dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS). Response to 1 mg overnight dexamethasone suppression test demonstrated persistently elevated testosterone and incomplete suppression of androstenedione...

A 35-year-old woman underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT 2 months after a radical hysterectomy for uterine cervical cancer. An apparent FDG uptake was observed in an oval-shaped mass with an attached surgical clip in the right paracolic gutter. A similar non-FDG-avid mass with a clip was observed in the left. In this case, ovarian transposition had also been performed with metallic clips placed on both sides of the paracolic gutters. The increased FDG uptake in the right paracolic gutter was interpreted as physiological uptake in the right transposed ovary, not metastasis...

Lymphangioma are benign, slow-growing and rare lymphatic tumors, which may emerge at any location in the body with ovary being a very rare location. Axillary region and neck are the most common sites, while retroperitoneum and mesentery account for <1%. We present a case of a young female of 33 years who had symptomatic pelvic mass and was presented with a complaint of lower abdominal pain of six-month duration and weight loss. Investigation revealed an oval-shaped complex cystic density lesion in the right adnexal region, which was likely neoplastic...

The study of urinary peptidome is an important area of research, which concerns the characterization of endogenous peptides, as well as the identification of biomarkers for a wide range of socially significant diseases. First of all, this relates to renal and genitourinary pathologies and/or pathologies associated with proteinuria, such as kidney diseases, bladder, prostate and ovarian cancers, diabetic nephropathy, and pre-eclampsia. Unlike proteins, peptides do not require proteolytic hydrolysis, can be analyzed in their native form and can provide certain information about occurring (patho)physiological processes...

PURPOSE: Meigs' syndrome is a rare gynecological disease characterized by the triad of benign ovarian tumor, ascites, and pleural effusion. Ovarian malignancies should be highly suspected in a postmenopausal woman with a pelvic mass, ascites, hydrothorax, and an elevated carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) level. It can be challenging to make a preoperative diagnosis of Meigs' syndrome.
