Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the medial forebrain bundle (MFB) induces rapid improvement of depressive symptoms in patients suffering from treatment-refractory major depressive disorder. It has been hypothesized that activation of the dopamine (DA) system contributes to this effect. To investigate whether DBS in the MFB affects DA release in the striatum, we combined DBS with fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) in freely moving rats. Farmers from Paraiba state, Northeast Brazil, claim that Malachra fasciata causes cutaneous lesions in sheep. To test its toxicity the plant was harvested daily and fed ad libitum for 21 days to 3 sheep as the sole food source (# 1-3). An additional sheep (# 4) was maintained as a control. The synergistic combination of membrane filtration with advanced oxidation is of particular interest for next-generation wastewater treatment technologies. A membrane electro-oxidizer (MEO) hybridizing a submerged microfilter and an electrochemical cell was developed and investigated for tertiary treatment of secondary industrial (textile) wastewater effluent.
