A precisely controlled drug release is a great challenge in exploring methodologies of drug administration and fighting drug resistance for successful cancer chemotherapy. Herein, we developed a dual-mode nanocarrier to specifically deliver doxorubicin (Dox) and precisely control the drug release in target tumor cells. This hierarchical nanocarrier consisted of a gold nanorod as the heating core, biodegradable mesoporous silica as the storage chamber, and graphene quantum dot (GQD) as a drug carrier. The Arg-Gly-Asp peptides on the nanocarrier surface facilitated the specific interaction with integrin-overexpressed tumor cells and subsequent uptake via receptor-mediated endocytosis...

BACKGROUND: The study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcome in patients with advanced local recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with or without reirradiation. METHODS: A total of 44 patients treated without reirradiation (non-RT + chemotherapy) were matched with 44 patients treated with reirradiation (re-RT+/-chemtherapy) by age, sex, Karnosky performance score (KPS), rT stage, rN stage, and time interval between initial radiation and recurrence (TI)...

OBJECTIVE: To explore the curative effect of nasal type extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma by sequential chemotherapy combined radiotherapy compared with chemtherapy. METHOD: Fifty-seven cases of nasal type extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma confirmed by pathological morphology and immuno-histochemistry were divided into chemotherapy combined radiotherapy group (34 cases) or chemotherapy group (23 cases). Twenty-three patients in the chemotherapy group alternately applied CHOP, VDLP and MEOP regimen after each two treatments into the clinical observation; Chemotherapy combined radiotherapy group of 34 patients, in addition to the above chemotherapy, applied three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy of the primary site by linear accelerators...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the activity and clinical efficacy of toremifene plus mitomycin, vindesin and cisplatin regimen (MVP) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS: A549 cells were seeded into 96 wells at the concentration of 10 x 10(4)cells/well and exposed to different agents. Seventy-two hours later, the cytotoxicity of the agents were evaluated with the method of MTT. The clinical trial included 63 patients with chemtherapy-naive NSCLC and 30 patients who had received chemotherapy (Pre-treatment arm)...

The efficacy and safety of Lishengsu (a rhG-CSF preparation) were evaluated for treatment of chemotherapy-induced leukopenia. 327 cases of leukopenia with grade I-IV induced by chemotherapy were subcutaneously administered at 2.5 - 5.0 micro g/(kg x d) of Lishengsu, and hemogram and the side effects were observed. The results showed that Lishengsu had satisfactory effect to cure leukopenia after chemtherapy, with an effective rate of 99.4% (325/327), the side effects were quite slight. It is concluded that Lishengsu is efficient and safe for patients with leukopenia, and can be used as an adjuvant drug for treatment of leukopenia after chemotherapy...

In a retrospective analysis of 87 cases of Caucasian childhood non-Hodgkin malignant lymphoma (NHML) from Lyon, France, all the case were diffuse lymphomas, but 47 were diagnosed as monomorphic small non-cleaved NHML, pathologically indistinguishable from Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). BL could then be the most frequent childhood lymphoma in France. This homogeneous series allows better definition of the characteristics of BL within NHML. Age distribution is similar to that of endemic BL, with a sex ratio of 3.7/1...

Reported are the results in 311 patients who received a multidisciplinary treatment for their cancers, said treatment combining hyperthermia, radiotherapy, and chemtherapy. Of his number, 266 patients were in the advance stage of their disease while another 42 still had localized cancers. According to the criteria of Koyama and Saitoh for evaluating solid tumors that had received chemotherapy, of 298 evaluable patients, 64 showed a complete response (CR), 94 showed a partial response (PR), 89 showed no change (NC), and 57 showed a progressive disease (PD), for an overall response of 53...

A low-dose, three-drug regimen, C.M.F. (cyclophosphamide 50 mg, p.o., days 1-14; methotrexate, 25 mg, and 5-fluorouracil, 500 mg, i.v., days 1 and 8; cycled every 28 days) was used in 46 consecutive chemtherapy-eligible women (41 previously hormonally treated) with recurrent breast cancer. Thirteen percent of the patients had complete regressions (C.R.); 33% had partial regressions (P.R.); 26% stabilized; and 28% progressed. In evaluating response by sites of metastases, lymph nodes (30%), lung nodules (22%), and subcutaneous deposits (2/3) had the highest incidence of C...

Mycobacterium kansasii infection of the knee joint was diagnosed in an 11-year-old boy on the basis of skin testing to atypical mycobacteria, and a positive culture from a synovial tissur biopsy. Appropriate antituberculose drugs shoud be institute as sole treatment if no bony destruction is present. Ifthere is no response to chemtherapy, synovectomy should be performed.
