Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) was administered to a patient with refractory coronary angina, whose complaints of pain did not regress despite intensive medical treatment, in our algology department. Prior to the administration of SCS, the patient was experiencing 10 to 15 pain attacks a day, limiting his physical activity. Following the administration of SCS, the frequency of pain attacks decreased to 1 to 2 times every 2 days. Accordingly, in this case report, the use of spinal cord stimulation in the treatment of chronic refractory angina pectoris pain based on a 61-year-old male patient is presented...

Nasal vasoconstrictors are some of the most widely used over-the-counter drugs, considered by many consumers as relatively safe with few significant adverse effects. At recommended dosage, the drug produces local vasoconstriction in nasal mucous membranes. However, the use of such drugs has been linked to cardiovascular adverse effects, including hypertension, arrhythmias, prolongation of the QT interval, and angina pectoris.1 The various cardiovascular adverse effects may occur with both oral and nasal administration and after a single dose or prolonged treatment, without dose-effect and independently of vascular status and age...

Chronic coronary disease (CCD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The most common symptom of CCD is exertional angina pectoris, a discomfort in the chest that commonly occurs during activities of daily life. Patients are dismayed by recurring episodes of angina and seek medical help in preventing or minimizing episodes. Angina occurs when the coronary arteries are unable to supply sufficient blood flow to the cardiac muscle to meet the metabolic needs of the left ventricular myocardium. While lifestyle changes and aggressive risk factor modification play a critical role in the management of CCD, management of angina usually requires pharmacologic therapy...

Background : Although ranolazine has been available for years as a second-line treatment to reduce angina attacks in patients with stable angina pectoris, real-world data on the effectiveness, tolerability, and safety of ranolazine are limited. Methods : A non-interventional, prospective study was conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of ranolazine. Patients eligible for enrolment had a baseline assessment between one and fourteen days after initiating ranolazine for the first time and a follow-up visit three months later...

The aim of this study was to comprehensively assess the causal relationship between the overall genetic effect of circulating ApoE levels and panvascular lesions using newer genome-wide association data and two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Two-way MR using single-nucleotide polymorphisms of circulating ApoE as instrumental variables was performed using the highest-priority Genome-wide association study (GWAS) data, with factor-adjusted and data-corrected statistics, to estimate causal associations between circulating ApoE levels and 10 pan-vascular diseases in > 500,000 UK Biobank participants, > 400,000 participants of Finnish ancestry, and numerous participants in a consortium of predominantly European ancestry...

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death globally, posing a serious threat to human health. However, the current treatment approaches available for CHD fall short of the ideal results. Tongxinluo (TXL) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that has been employed in the clinical treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (such as angina pectoris, stroke, etc.) in China for many years and holds great potential as a prospective treatment. TXL either as a standalone treatment or in combination with interventions recommended in CHD guidelines has been shown to be effective and well tolerated in clinical trials for CHD...

Background and objective Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI) is a complication observed among individuals undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. It is characterized by an elevation in serum creatinine (SCr) levels >0.5 mg/dl or a 50% relative increase in SCr from the baseline value following exposure to contrast within a 48- to 72-hour timeframe, in the absence of any alternative causes for acute kidney injury (AKI)...

This case report discusses a 74-year-old man presenting with angina pectoris. Coronary computed tomography angiography suggested only mild stenosis in the mid left anterior descending artery (LAD), with fractional flow reserve based on computed tomography images (FFRct) value of 0.87. However, coronary angiography revealed slit-like stenosis in the mid LAD, and the invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) was measured at 0.72, demonstrating a deviation from the FFRct value.

Thyroid dysfunction is associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease; however, whether plasma thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in subjects with euthyroidism affect the risk of cardiovascular disease remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the causal association between plasma TSH levels and cardiovascular diseases, particularly ischemic heart disease and heart failure (HF). Summary statistics from the Integrative Epidemiology Unit Open genome-wide association studies Project and FinnGen consortium were used to investigate the causal relationship between plasma TSH levels and the risk of cardiovascular diseases...

Many patients report a long and debilitating history before adequate diagnostics and management are initiated. BACKGROUND: The risk of subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD) is high in cancer survivors. Although metabolic syndrome is an established risk factor for CVD, its association with cancer survivors has not yet been established. This study aimed to clarify whether metabolic syndrome is associated with subsequent CVD risk in patients with cancer using a nationwide epidemiological dataset. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed 53 510 patients with a history of breast, colorectal, or stomach cancer, which is reportedly a major site for developing cancer in Japan...

AIM: Type 4a myocardial infarction (T4aMI), defined as myocardial injury associated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), is associated with a poor prognosis and there is conflicting evidence regarding the effectiveness of remote ischaemic conditioning (RIC) in its prevention. This review aimed to determine the effect of RIC on stable and unstable angina patients. METHOD: A systematic review was conducted in PubMed and Central database. Outcome measures were: changes in peak troponin, creatine kinase myocardial band (CKMB), C-reactive protein (CRP) level, incidence of T4aMI, and major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE)...

UNLABELLED: Although debulking devices are very useful in modifying calcified plaques, their effectiveness is highly dependent on wire bias. In particular, in eccentric calcified bifurcation lesions, wire bias tends to be poor and needs to be corrected for adequate lesion preparation. A 67-year-old man was diagnosed with exertional angina pectoris. Coronary angiography showed a highly calcified eccentric lesion from the left main trunk to the left anterior descending artery. The patient refused coronary artery bypass surgery, therefore we decided to treat this complex bifurcation lesion with percutaneous coronary intervention...

BACKGROUND: this study was designed to analyse patient outcomes using a combination of PCI and exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation compared with PCI alone. METHODS: PCI can improve the survival rate of patients with coronary artery disease, but it can also cause vascular endothelial cell injury, thrombosis, and even restenosis. Early cardiac rehabilitation exercise is crucial for patients with coronary heart disease after PCI. Five databases were examined for randomised controlled trials involving early cardiac rehabilitation exercise and standard treatment in patients with coronary heart disease after PCI...

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies often rely on self-reported health problems and validation greatly improves study quality. In a study of late effects after childhood cancer, we validated self-reported cardiovascular problems by contacting general practitioners (GPs).
