The final outcome of dental treatment needs to be not only clinically sufficient, but also esthetically pleasing. Bilateral symmetry in the maxillary incisor teeth is of significant importance in esthetic dentistry. In restorative dentistry, symmetry refers to the appearance of balance around the dental midline. The purpose of this study was to measure and compare the maxillary incisor teeth dimensions from both sides of the dental midline, in order to asses if this symmetry occurs naturally. From the student community population at Tel Aviv University, 66 students between the ages of 20-35 (35 males, 31 females) were enrolled and gave consent...

OBJECTIVES: Full-arch rehabilitations in young patients suffering from dental agenesis should compensate for the reduced vertical dimension of occlusion and restore both esthetics and function at minimal biological cost. This requires precise planning and maximum patient compliance during the preprosthetic phase. The pretreatment period with tooth-colored splints promotes a predictable outcome of the final restorations. Clinical considerations: Thanks to better restorative materials and adhesive techniques and increased knowledge of how to preserve sound tooth structures, prosthetic dentistry has increasingly turned toward minimally invasive procedures...

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a polymeric material that has recently been introduced in dentistry and can be used as framework material for fixed and removable dental prostheses. This clinical report describes the fabrication of a double-crown-retained prosthesis with a PEEK framework in a patient with a substantially diminished occlusal vertical dimension. The insertion of the removable dental prosthesis with a PEEK framework resulted in the functional and esthetic rehabilitation of the patient; however, removable dental prostheses fabricated from PEEK should currently be regarded as interim restorations because of the limited available scientific evidence...

Since Cerec (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) was introduced as the first dental chairside computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system in the mid-1980s, this technology has enjoyed growing popularity, particularly in the recent past. There has been a considerable increase in the number of available chairside systems in only the last few years. One of the main reasons for this is that intraoral scanners have become increasingly better, smaller, and faster, while the design software has become more and more user-friendly...

PURPOSE: Many studies have examined the esthetic preferences of professionals in the maxillary anterior region; however, only a few have taken into account the ratios that are more frequent within the population or other ratios suggested in the literature as ideal. Previous studies also failed to compare them with the esthetic preferences of the lay population with regards to the smile. The purpose of this study is to highlight the differences when perceiving the esthetics of smiles between general dentists and laypersons, and linking them with the width/length of the maxillary anterior teeth...

Esthetic or cosmetic dentistry is one of the main areas of dental practice. Increasing demand of patients for esthetics has resulted in the development of several techniques for restoring the anterior teeth. Composite resin restorations have become an integral part of contemporary restorative dentistry and can be called "star of minimal invasion" due to its conservative concepts. The direct composite veneering allows restoring the tooth in a natural way and preservation of sound tooth structure when compared to indirect restorations...

BACKGROUND: Restoring the vertical dimension is a critical procedure in prosthetic dentistry. Anterior facial height has a significant impact on the length of the ramus. Patients with deep bite will exhibit a shorter lower facial height; hence, restoring the vertical dimension esthetically without altering the facial form is highly challenging. AIM: To evaluate the relationship of gonial angle, ramus height, and dental height with different facial forms. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A total of 51 subjects in all facial form aged between 20 and 40 with deep bite were randomly selected...

This article demonstrates the clinical application of biomechanical and occlusal principles to conservatively provide optimal clinical outcomes in restoring an eroded anterior dentition. The authors manage a challenging case involving limited palatal clearance (ie, deep bite) coupled with palatal erosion and wear by combining the centric relation (CR) and Dahl principles to create anterior interocclusal space to reduce the need for more invasive palatal reduction. The combined use of adhesive restorations-resin composites on the palatal surface and indirect porcelain veneers on the facial/incisal surfaces-through enamel and dentin bonding helped optimize esthetic and functional/biomechanical aspects...

After tooth loss, an individual may seek tooth replacement so that his/her function and esthetics could be restored. Clinical prosthodontics, during the past decade, has significantly improved and developed according to the advancements in the science and patient's demands and needs. Conventional options in prosthodontics for substituting a missing single tooth include the removable partial denture, partial and full coverage bridgework, and resin-bonded bridgework. Dental implants have gained increasing popularity over the years as they are capable of restoring the function to near normal in both partial and completely edentulous arches...
