Azygos vein aneurysm is a rare disease. Surgical resection is usually performed when it ruptures. To avoid the thromboembolism, procedures that do not touch or push the aneurysm are recommended. Herein, we report a case of idiopathic azygos vein aneurysm. A 56-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital for right lateral chest pain. Chest enhanced multi-detector CT revealed an azygos vein aneurysm in the posterior mediastinal space. No thrombus in the aneurysm was detected before surgery. Video-assisted thoracic surgery was performed to treat the aneurysm...

We herein report a case of one-stage laparoscopic surgery for extralobar pulmonary sequestration (EPS) and hiatal hernia. Our patient was a 2-year-old girl who was diagnosed as a mediastinal mass lesion. Postnatal computed tomography revealed that the mediastinal mass was an EPS. Two weeks after birth, the patient developed gastroesophageal reflux (GER), and esophagography showed a hiatal hernia. At 2 years of age, she underwent one-stage laparoscopic Nissen's fundoplication for GER with resection of the EPS in the posterior mediastinum...

Primary extraskeletal osteosarcoma (ESOS) presenting in thoracic locations is very rare and associated with a poor prognosis. The current study presents a case involving a large anterior mediastinal mass, which was histologically confirmed as a primary osteosarcoma. The literature concerning primary thoracic ESOS is reviewed. A total of 60 cases were identified. The median age was 60 years (range, 14-93 years) and males were more prevalent among the reported cases (65%). Survival analysis revealed that the overall 5-year survival was only 22...

Ectopic thymoma in the neck is a rare phenomenon, with fewer than 20 cases reported worldwide. Evidence for management of ectopic thymoma comes from literature for mediastinal thymoma despite clinical features that distinguish the two. Here we present a case of a 31-year-old female with an asymptomatic neck mass who was found to have an ectopic cervical thymoma with concomitant mediastinal thymic hyperplasia. The decision was made to perform a left-sided neck dissection and a video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy...

A 66-year-old woman was referred to our institute for an enlarging tumor of the thyroid, and neck and chest computed tomography scan showed not only a thyroid tumor, but also an anterior mediastinal tumor and ground-glass nodules in the lung. Because of persisting symptoms, an enlarging thyroid mass, and the possibility of cancer, excision of the tumors was proposed. A 6-cm-long vertical skin incision was made in the right axilla, a mini-thoracotomy was made in the third intercostal space, and an additional port was placed in the fifth intercostal space...

Immunoglobulin (Ig) G4-related disease has various clinical signs and symptoms, and steroidal therapy with corticosteroids has been found to be effective for treatment. Few cases of IgG4-related disease associated with paravertebral tumor have been reported, and there have been no reports on complete resection of such a tumor. Here, we report a case of IgG4-related disease associated with a paravertebral tumor that was successfully resected without the need for postoperative medication. An 84-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a paravertebral tumor...
