The potential presence of introduced antibiotics in the aquatic environment is a hot topic of concern, particularly in the Antarctic, a highly vulnerable area protected under the Madrid protocol. The increasing presence of human population, especially during summer, might led to the appearance of pharmaceuticals in wastewater. The previous discovery of Escherichia coli strains resistant to antibiotics in sea water and wastewater collected in King George Island motivated our investigation on antibiotics occurrence in these samples...

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a type of Staphylococcus that is resistant to certain antibiotics. These antibiotics include methicillin and other more common antibiotics such as oxacillin, penicillin and amoxicillin. Staphylococcus infections, including MRSA, occur most frequently among persons in hospitals and healthcare facilities. The present study was performed to investigate the in vitro activity of oxacillin and other antimicrobial agents against S. aureus strains obtained from nursing personnel...

The investigations were carried out on 50 patients of both sexes, divided into 2 groups. The first group was formed by 30 patients, suffering from cholelithiasis, who underwent cholecystectomy. Half of these subjects were administered Xantociclina by oral route 5 hours before the operation, while the other half orally received an equivalent dose of tetracycline HC1. The antibiotic levels found in the bile taken during the operation, showed to be markedly higher after Xantociclina administration; the statistical analysis of the values obtained pointed out a most significant difference...

The sensitivity of 59 Salmonella strains isolated in children with acute diarrhoea was tested against the new quinolones like: Ciproflaxicin (CIP), Norfloxacin (NOR) and Ofloxacin (OFX), as compared to the sensitivity against same aminosides: Gentamicin (GM), Amikacin (AN) against cephalosporins: Ceftazidime (CAZ), Cefalotine (CF) and other currently used antimicrobial agents: Tetraciclin (T), Ampicilin (A), Cloramfenicol (C), Furazolidon (FU). The majority of the studied Salmonella strains, 43 out of 59 strains, belonged to the serotype typhimurium, the most frequently serotype isolated in our geographical area...

Maintenance treatment with antisecretory agents, and above all with H2-RA, is a therapeutic option still largely favoured by physicians. However, in the last decades the pathogenetic role of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) in duodenal and gastric ulcer has met with increasingly convincing confirmation. Actually, Hp eradication brings about a dramatic and persistent decrease in ulcer relapse rate. At present, there is a general agreement that Hp-positive patients, with ulcer whether ab initio or recurrent, need to be treated with anti-Hp regimens...

From 1036 coprocolture, coming from hospital subjects and non hospital subjects in the municipality of L'Aquila, are been isolated 18 stocks of Salmonellae through research with phage 0-1, biochemist and serologique. The phage 0-1, confirming the present data in literature, hasn't shown activity towards 2 stocks. The active antibiotics, according to Kirby-Bauer, have resulted to be the Cloramfenicola and the Gentamicina; the Tetracicline haven't resulted active.

A total of 1659 bacteria Strains were examined for susceptibility to different drugs by the Kirby-Bauer method. The isolates came from the General Medicine ward of Castellamonte's hospital (USSL 40). The results were retrospectively studied and statistically elaborated. The study lasted from 2 to 7 years depending on the antibiotic considered. The isolates included: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., Citrobacter spp., Proteus mirabilis, Proteus IND+, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus spp...

Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (AA), is a cocobacillus thin and small, non motile, uncapsulate and capnophilic. AA, is: one of the species encountered in the mouth's comensal flora being able to be isolated in gingival crevices culture and oral mucosa in a 20% of the healthy population. An important number of pathogenic factors make it well equipped, to protect itself from host's defense mechanisms, and to destroy the periodontal tissue. Between the most important we find lipopolisacarides and leucotoxines which promote tisular invasion and destructive qualities of this microorganism...

Escherichia coli strains were isolated from calves and were biochemically and serologically identified in terms of their sensitivity to antibiotics. An exclusively high frequency of sensitivity was established to sulfonamides (100 per cent), tetracicline, erythromycin, oleandomycin (86.6 per cent) ampicillin, and streptomycin (70 per cent). Well expressed was their sensitivity to nitrofurans, canamycin, neomycin, and polymyxin. It was demonstrated through serial dilutions that there exists a high level of resistance to sulfanilamides, oleandomycin, erytromycin, tetracycline, streptomycin, chloramphenicol (more than 512 mug/cm3)...
