Fat grafting has been described as a potential treatment for post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS) following oncological breast surgery. The study's aim was to compare and contrast the current literature using a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantify the evidence. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used. Databases, including MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), were searched...

PURPOSE: Fat grafting to the breast for aesthetic indications has become increasingly popular. Herein, methods, aesthetic outcomes, and complications are reviewed in a retrospective case series. METHODS: Female patients (n=165) with an average age of 45 years (range: 17-78 years) who underwent fat grafting to breast were evaluated. Demographic parameters, the type of procedure, the amount of fat transferred, the site(s) of fat harvest, operative times, and the patient's postoperative recovery and outcomes were recorded...

Because lipofilling is often associated with various reconstructive procedures, especially breast reconstructions, improving fat-graft retention remains a major concern for plastic surgeons. We conducted an experimental protocol in a rat model simulating an autologous breast reconstruction method using the fat-augmented latissimus dorsi myocutaneous (LDM) flap. This study aimed to compare the survival rates of autologous adipocytes when injected subcutaneously and intramuscularly and to evaluate the role of recipient host tissue, volume of the injected fat, and postoperative radiation on fat-graft retention...

BACKGROUND: Weight loss leads to excessive flaccidity, volume loss, and tissue descent in the gluteal region. Translated autologous flaps during lower-body lifting have been used in patients; however, they address sagging tissue and the lack of volume. However, sometimes use of these autologous flaps do not provide adequate gluteal projection, and a second procedure with fat injection may be required. OBJECTIVES: The authors describe their technique of a lower body lift with a lumbosacral flap in association with liposuction and lipofilling for gluteoplasty...

BACKGROUND: Breast augmentation is currently the leading aesthetic surgical procedure worldwide. Thus, there is a high prevalence of women with breast implants demanding serious know-how and expertise concerning long-term complication management. Breast implant carriers can suffer from problems and pathologies making implant removal the best solution. The authors of this article have also been confronted more and more with the unspecified complex of symptoms named breast implant disease (BID), also called breast implant illness (BII)...

Basal thumb arthritis is a painful and debilitating pathology that can severely reduce a patients' quality of life. Common therapies include oral pain control, local steroid injections and/or surgery. Yet, therapeutic data on long-term improvement and even cartilage repair are scarce. This review aims to present the currently available literature on novel therapies for basal thumb arthritis, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), fat grafting and phototherapy, and investigate their potential efficacy. The entire OVID database and PubMed were searched for studies containing the topics PRP injection, lipofilling, laser treatment and regenerative treatment for carpometacarpal arthritis...

Facial resurfacing is a fundamental part of rejuvenation but it is often ignored because of the perceived difficulty. Lasers are an option, but they have proved inadequate for difficult rhytids (ie, perioral) both in quality and longevity. Croton oil peels can give excellent results with remarkable permanence. The misconception of danger and difficulty will be dispelled and the reality that these peels can be done in a controlled fashion and are within the grasp of any practitioner will be discussed.

Polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG) is a filler that has been strictly prohibited in France for many years. It first appeared on the market in 1980, used as an injectable for breast and facial augmentation, mainly in Asia and Eastern Europe. Like many other materials, it has shown unfavourable results and complications due to a foreign body reaction. It was banned in 2006, but continues to be injected illegally. With the influx of migrants, we are faced with the problem of how to manage complications, which can occur more than a decade later...

Introduction  Any injury involving the dermis will lead to scarring. Scar tissue can cause functional limitations, cosmetic impairments, pain, and itch. Adipose-derived stem cells have also been shown to play a role in scar modulation. This study evaluates changes in lipofilled scar over the period of time and compares it with non-lipofilled scar tissue. Materials and Methods  A prospective case-control study with intraindividual follow-up was performed on 30 adult patients with post-burn scars from November 2016 to May 2019...

Liposuction cannulas are versatile tools in a plastic surgeon's armamentarium useful for dissection, deep subcutaneous ligamentous release, fat extraction, and lipofilling. Experienced surgeons develop the ability to navigate subcutaneous anatomy through real-time tactile feedback of the cannula's depth, angulation, excursion, and resistance. Peripheral gluteal ligaments acting as anatomic boundaries must be understood and protected. However, central ligaments tether the dermis to deeper structures precluding expansion...

BACKGROUND:  The pectoralis major musculocutaneous flap has been considered for decades the workhorse in head and neck reconstruction. However, the disadvantages of the pectoralis flap include the morbidity of the donor site in terms of cosmetic and functional results. A silicone pectoral implant  can be used to solve such aesthetic chest deformity in male patients. METHODS: A 33-years-old man with a history of cervical tracheoesophageal fistula after a blunt trauma due to a motorcycle accident, previously reconstructed with a pectoralis major flap, consulted our Plastic Surgery Department for an aesthetic defect of the donor site ...

Stem cells (SCs) have multiple applications in today's medicine including aesthetic dermatology and plastic surgery. The purpose of this paper is to review some clinical use of mesenchymal SCs. The main focus was put on adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSCs) as these cells are easy to harvest and because of their properties showed great potential in many studies, where they proved to accelerate wound healing, reduce scars, cause hair regrowth, or rejuvenate skin. Furthermore, when added to lipofilling procedures, such as breast augmentation they enhance fat graft survival and provide satisfying results...

Many deformities occur after subpectoral implant-based breast reconstruction. Today, immediate prepectoral reconstruction with implants shows a significant increase in popularity as it has many advantages over subpectoral positioning: absence of muscle deficit, breast animation, reduced implant dislocation, less postoperative pain and easy recovery. As such, implant pocket conversion from the submuscular to prepectoral plane has become our preferred strategy for solving most problems related to the submuscular implant position...

BACKGROUND: Two-stages pre-pectoral breast reconstruction may confer advantages over direct to implant (DTI) and subpectoral reconstruction in selected patients who have no indication for autologous reconstruction. The primary endpoint of the study was to evaluate and compare the incidence of capsular contracture in the pre-pectoral two-stages technique versus the direct to implant technique. Complications related to the two surgical techniques and patient satisfaction were also evaluated...

However, smoking or coagulation disorders may switch surgeon's choice towards alternative options. Chronic wounds remain a therapeutic and financial challenge for physicians and the health care systems. Innovative, inexpensive and effective treatment methods would be of immense value. The sublesional fat grafting could be such treatment, although effectiveness and safety have only been assessed in a few randomised clinical trials. The fat graft was obtained by liposuction, washed with the Coleman method and then injected sublesional and into the wound margins after surgical debridement. For the control group, saline solution was used instead of fat...
