Rats treated with isoproterenol (ISO, 85 mg/kg, sc, twice at an interval of 24 h) showed a significant increase in heart rate, mean arterial blood pressure, pressure rate index, ST elevation on ECG, and a significant increase in the levels of cardiac marker enzymes- lactate dehydrogenase, and creatine kinase in serum and a significant reduction in superoxide dismutase, and catalase and increase in thiobarbituric acid reactive substance activity in heart tissue. Treatment with Human umbilical cord blood (hUCBC; 500 and 1000 microL, iv, via the tail vein; 2 h after the second dose of ISO) significantly restored back to normal levels and showed a lesser degree of cellular infiltration and infarct size in histopathological and planimetry studies respectively...

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to find the relationship between visual function changes and vigabatrin treatment continuation or discontinuation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 19 patients (11 males, 8 females) from 8 to 20 years old, treated with vigabatrin because of partial epilepsy, were examined. Best corrected visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and static visual field were done. The examinations were repeated after 1-2 months and after 1-2 years. The longest follow-up was about three years (one girl)...

OBJECTIVE: To report a Chinese Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2 (CMT2) family. METHODS: All the members in the family were studied clinically, and 6 patients were studied electrophysiologically. Sural nerve biopsy was performed in the proband. PMP22 gene duplications were detected by highly polymorphic short tandem repeat. Point mutation analysis of PMP22, MPZ and NEFL gene was screened by PCR-SSCP combined with DNA direct sequencing. A genome-wide screening was carried out to the family...
