Elucidating how appropriate neurite patterns are generated in neurons of the olfactory system is crucial for comprehending the construction of the olfactory map. In the Drosophila olfactory system, projection neurons (PNs), primarily derived from four neural stem cells (called neuroblasts), populate their cell bodies surrounding to and distribute their dendrites in distinct but overlapping patterns within the primary olfactory center of the brain, the antennal lobe (AL). Failure of remyelination of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions contributes to neurodegeneration that correlates with chronic disability in patients. Currently, there are no available treatments to reduce neurodegeneration, but one therapeutic approach to fill this unmet need is to promote remyelination. As many demyelinated MS lesions contain plentiful oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs), but no mature myelinating oligodendrocytes, research has previously concentrated on promoting OPC maturation. However, some MS lesions contain few OPCs, and therefore, remyelination failure may also be secondary to OPC recruitment failure...

We used the cerebellum as a model to study the morphogenetic and cellular processes underlying the formation of elaborate brain structures from a simple neural tube, using an inducible genetic fate mapping approach in mouse. We demonstrate how a 90 degrees rotation between embryonic days 9 and 12 converts the rostral-caudal axis of dorsal rhombomere 1 into the medial-lateral axis of the wing-like bilateral cerebellar primordium. With the appropriate use of promoters, we marked specific medial-lateral domains of the cerebellar primordium and derived a positional fate map of the murine cerebellum...

Oligodendrocytes, the myelin-forming cells of the CNS, are generated from multiple foci distributed along the developing neural tube. Little is known about the endogenous guidance cues controlling the migration of oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) from their site of emergence toward their final destination, mainly the future white matter tracts. During embryonic development, the optic nerve is populated by OPCs originating in the diencephalon that migrate from the chiasm toward the retina. Here we show that OPCs migrating into the embryonic optic nerve express the semaphorin receptors neuropilin-1 and -2, as well as deleted in colorectal cancer (DCC) and, to a lesser extend unc5H1, two of the netrin-1 receptors...
