The purpose of this study was to assess the performance of structure-guided deformable image registration (SG-DIR) relative to rigid registration and DIR using TG-132 recommendations. This assessment was performed for image registration of treatment planning computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans with Primovist® contrast agent acquired post stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). SBRT treatment planning CT scans and posttreatment Primovist® MRI scans were obtained for 14 patients...

OBJECTIVE. The objective of our study was to evaluate image quality and reader confidence in MR cholangiography of bile ducts using conventional T2-weighted MR cholangiography alone in comparison with T2-weighted MR cholangiography and gadoxetate disodium-enhanced MR cholangiography in a series of patients with biliary-enteric anastomosis (BEA). SUBJECTS AND METHODS. Fifty patients with BEA and clinically and sonographically suspected complications underwent 1.5-T MRI. After acquisition of T1- and T2-weighted images, conventional MR cholangiography was performed using 3D fast relaxation fast spin-echo (FRFSE) and single-shot fast spin-echo (SSFSE) T2-weighted sequences (image set 1)...

PURPOSE: To evaluate possible use for cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) guidance, this phantom study evaluated the contrast enhancement provided by Gadoxetate Disodium (Primovist® CAN/EU, or Eovist® USA, Bayer Healthcare, Leverkusen, Germany), a contrast agent that is taken up selectively by liver cells and is retained for up to an hour. Image quality from CBCT was benchmarked against helical fan-beam computed tomography for two phantom geometries. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Concentrations were diluted to 0...

BACKGROUND: Gadoxetic acid (Primovist™)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (P-MRI) scans have higher accuracy and increased detection of small colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) compared to CT scans or conventional MRI scans. But, P-MRI scans are still inconsistently acquired in the diagnostic work up of patients with CRLM. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of P-MRI scans on treatment plan proposition and subsequently the clinical course of the patient. METHODS: Eighty-three consecutive patients with potentially resectable CRLM based on a conventional CT scan underwent P-MRI scanning prior to treatment...

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a glycosylated type-II transmembrane protein highly expressed in certain tumor cells. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case reported of an isolated well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) strongly suspected on gallium-68 (68 Ga)-PSMA positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), which was not well characterized both on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) liver with Primovist as well as fluorine-18 (18 F)-choline PET/CT. BACKGROUND/AIM: Gadoxetate disodium (Primovist or Eovist) is extensively used as a hepatospecific contrast agent during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. However, there is no information determining whether gadoxetate disodium has a cytotoxic impact and/or affects relative gene expression on liver cells. In the current study, we investigated the effects of gadoxetate disodium on cytotoxicity and the levels of gene expression in human normal Chang Liver cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The cytotoxic effect was detected via methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining...

A 66-year-old man with history of prostate carcinoma underwent Ga-labeled prostate-specific membrane antigen PET/CT for surveillance of rising prostate-specific antigen. Intense tracer uptake was noted in segments 2, 7, and 8 of the liver. The lesions were not FDG avid on F-FDG PET/CT. Further characterization with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography with Gd-EOB (Primovist) contrast revealed ill-defined arterially enhancing lesions with central washout in the venous phase. CT-guided core biopsy was performed, and histopathology confirmed well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma...

For magnetic resonance, the established class of intravenous contrast media is the gadolinium-based contrast agents. In the 3 decades since initial approval, these have proven in general to be very safe for human administration. However, in 2006, a devastating late adverse reaction to administration of the less stable gadolinium-based contrast agents was identified, nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. The result of actions taken by the European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration, stratifying the agents by risk and contraindicating specific agents in severe renal dysfunction, has led to no new cases being identified in North America or Europe...

History An asymptomatic 33-year-old woman was referred to the Hepatology Department in 2013 for work-up of indeterminate multifocal liver masses. These lesions were discovered incidentally at multiphase contrast material-enhanced multidetector computed tomography (CT) performed in 2004 to investigate right lower quadrant pain. Imaging surveillance at sporadic intervals revealed slow progressive growth of the lesions over time; however, the number of lesions remained constant. There was no history of cancer, nor were there predisposing factors for chronic liver disease or cirrhosis...

Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary hepatic tumor in dogs and is amenable to surgical resection in many cases. Unfortunately, overlap of sonographic findings between benign and malignant hepatic lesions typically requires more invasive diagnostic tests to be performed (e.g., biopsy for histopathology). The availability of a noninvasive diagnostic test to identify hepatocellular carcinoma would be beneficial. The use of a liver-specific magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent such as gadoxetate disodium (Gd-EOB-DTPA; Eovist® or Primovist®) has improved lesion detection in human patients...
