This study examines the synthesis and evaluation of 11 newly developed compounds as potential anti-Alzheimer's agents that occur via cholinesterase and β-secretase inhibition. The compounds were tested for their inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) using the modified Ellman method. The results showed that several compounds exhibited significant inhibition of AChE, particularly compounds 6d, 7a, and 7e, which demonstrated high inhibitory activity at lower concentrations, with IC50 values of 0...

Teclistamab, an off-the-shelf B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) × CD3 bispecific antibody that mediates T-cell activation and subsequent lysis of BCMA-expressing myeloma cells, is approved for the treatment of patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). As a T-cell redirection therapy, clinical outcomes with teclistamab may be influenced by patient immune fitness and tumor antigen expression. We correlated tumor characteristics and baseline immune profiles with clinical response and disease burden in patients with RRMM from the pivotal phase 1/2 MajesTEC-1 study, focusing on patients treated with 1...

CF3 -substituted cyclopropyl carbinol derivatives undergo regioselective and diastereoselective nucleophilic halogenation at the quaternary carbon center to provide acyclic products as a single diastereomer. The selectivity of the substitution is rationalized by the formation of a nonclassical cyclopropylcarbinyl cation intermediate, reacting at the most-substituted carbon center. Tertiary alkyl chlorides, bromides, and fluorides adjacent to a stereogenic C-CF3 -motif are diastereomerically pure and can be obtained in few catalytic steps from commercially available alkynes...

The sodium (Na) metal anode encounters issues such as volume expansion and dendrite growth during cycling. Herein, a novel three-dimensional flexible composite Na metal anode was constructed through the conversion-alloying reaction between Na and ultrafine Sb2 S3 nanoparticles encapsulated within the electrospun carbon nanofibers (Sb2 S3 @CNFs). The formed sodiophilic Na3 Sb sites and the high Na+ -conducting Na2 S matrix, coupled with CNFs, establish a spatially confined "sodiophilic-conductive" network, which effectively reduces the Na nucleation barrier, improves the Na+ diffusion kinetics, and suppresses the volume expansion, thereby inhibiting the Na dendrite growth...

Although transition metals constitute less than 0.1% of the total mass within a human body, they have a substantial impact on fundamental biological processes across all kingdoms of life. Indeed, these nutrients play crucial roles in the physiological functions of enzymes, with the redox properties of many of these metals being essential to their activity. At the same time, imbalances in transition metal pools can be detrimental to health. Modern analytical techniques are helping to illuminate the workings of metal homeostasis at a molecular and atomic level, their spatial localization in real time, and the implications of metal dysregulation in disease pathogenesis...

High-energy-density lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are confronted with crucial concerns of security and a short cycle lifespan caused by the uncontrollable formation of lithium (Li) dendrites. The poor thermal stability and heterogeneous Li deposition of conventional polyolefin separators often cause battery short circuiting and thermal runaway in LMBs. Herein, a novel dual-functional PE composite separator (PI-COOH/PE) coated by carboxyl polyimide (PI) microspheres is fabricated by an etching-acidification method...

These journals do not conduct peer reviews or detect plagiarism, and accept manuscripts without requiring substantial modifications. Their near 100% acceptance rate is driven by profit motives, regardless of the content they publish. While they boast a prestigious editorial board composed of renowned researchers, in most cases, it is a facade aimed at impressing and attracting investigators...

In fission yeast lacking the telomere binding protein, Taz1, replication forks stall at telomeres, triggering deleterious downstream events. Strand invasion from one taz1Δ telomeric stalled fork to another on a separate (non-sister) chromosome leads to telomere entanglements, which are resolved in mitosis at 32°C; however, entanglement resolution fails at ≤20°C, leading to cold-specific lethality. Previously, we found that loss of the mitotic function of Rif1, a conserved DNA replication and repair factor, suppresses cold sensitivity by promoting resolution of entanglements without affecting entanglement formation...
