Here we reported a case of primary sclerosing epitheloid fibrosarcoma (SEF) of the kidney, an extremely rare and aggressive tumor. The patient presented a mass in the upper part of the right kidney with pulmonary metastasis at the time of diagnosis, a right radical nephrectomy was performed, it was a solid tumor of 15 cm × 9 cm affecting almost the entire kidney. Histological study revealed a neoplasm of uniform epithelioid cells with scant cytoplasm with dense and sclerotic stroma. immunohistochemistry positive for MUC-4, detection by fusion of EWSR1-CREB3L1 by FISH positive...

Pulmonary enteric adenocarcinoma (PEAC) is a rare lung adenocarcinoma with morphological features similar to those of primary and metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma. To date, only a few studies have reported the therapeutic effects of chemoradiotherapy on PEAC. This report describes the case of a 28-year-old woman with pregnancy-related PEAC who presented with left shoulder pain. A superior sulcus tumor was identified in the left thoracic cavity, and the biopsy indicated more than 50% intestinal differentiation components...

INTRODUCTION: Implanted pacemakers (PM) would decrease the detection of lung nodules in chest computed tomography (CT) due to the metal artifact. This study aimed to explore the computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) detectability of pulmonary nodules for the patients implanted with PMs in low- and ultra-low-dose chest CT screening. METHODS: Four different sizes of artificial nodules were placed in an anthropomorphic chest phantom with two alternative diameters utilized...

BACKGROUND: Testosterone therapy (TTh) has been shown to improve libido in women with sexual dysfunction, but its utilization has been limited due to concern for cardiovascular events and past studies reporting highly variable results. AIM: To assess the association of TTh in women with major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), including heart attack, stroke, or death, using a large database. BACKGROUND: Generally, early-stage breast cancer has a good prognosis. However, if it spreads systemically, especially with pulmonary involvement, prospects worsen dramatically. Importantly, tumor-infiltrating T cells contribute to tumor control, particularly intratumoral T cells with a tissue-resident memory phenotype are associated with an improved clinical outcome. METHODS: Here, we use an adenoviral vector vaccine encoding endogenous tumor-associated antigens adjuvanted with interleukin-1β to induce tumor-specific tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM) in the lung for the prevention and treatment of pulmonary metastases in the murine 4T1 breast cancer model...

INTRODUCTION: Brain tumor surgery represents a critical and high-risk area within the field of neurosurgery. Our study aims to offer a comprehensive analysis of adverse events (AEs) from a prospectively maintained database at a leading neurosurgical tertiary center, with a specific focus on different types of tumor entities. METHODS: From January 2022 to September 2023, our study focused on adult patients, who underwent surgery for intracranial tumors. Each patient in this demographic was thoroughly assessed for adverse events (AEs) by their attending physicians at discharge...

Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD) is an inherited autosomal dominant condition caused by germline mutations in the FLCN gene, mapped to chromosome 17p11.2. Typical manifestations include pulmonary cysts, spontaneous pneumothorax, fibrofolliculomas, and kidney neoplasms. This report details the case of a 56-year-old female non-smoker diagnosed with multiple pulmonary cysts, presenting with a history of recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax. A computed tomography (CT) scan of her daughter revealed similar pulmonary cysts, raising suspicion of BHD...

Cyclophilin B (CypB), encoded by peptidylprolyl isomerase B ( PPIB ), is involved in cellular transcriptional regulation, immune responses, chemotaxis, and proliferation. Recent studies have shown that PPIB/CypB is associated with tumor progression and chemoresistance in various cancers. However, the clinicopathologic significance and mechanism of action of PPIB/CypB in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. In this study, we used RNA in situ hybridization to examine PPIB expression in 431 NSCLC tissue microarrays consisting of 295 adenocarcinomas (ADCs) and 136 squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs)...

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a malignancy with a 5-year survival rate of 12%. The abundant mesenchyme is partly responsible for the malignancy. The antifibrotic therapies have gained attention in recent research. However, the role of pirfenidone, an FDA-approved drug for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, remains unclear in PDAC. METHODS: Data from RNA-seq of patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models treated with pirfenidone were integrated using bioinformatics tools to identify the target of cell types and genes...

Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a rare and highly malignant tumor, which includes the following five pathologic types: pleomorphic carcinoma, spindle cell carcinoma, giant cell carcinoma, carcinosarcoma and pulmonary blastoma. The onset of PSC is occult with non-specific clinical symptoms and signs. The clinical manifestations include irritating cough, bloody sputum, dyspnea, chest pain and so on, which are closely related to the growth and invasion site of the tumor. PSC tends to metastasize early, so most patients are already in local advanced stage or advanced stage with a median survival of 9 months at the time of hospital visit...

BACKGROUND: Cough is one of the main complications after pulmonary surgery, which seriously affects the postoperative quality of life. Preserving the pulmonary branch of vagus nerve may reduce the incidence of postoperative cough. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate whether preserving the pulmonary branch of the vagus nerve could reduce the incidence of postoperative chronic cough in patients with stage I peripheral lung adenocarcinoma. METHODS: A total of 125 patients who underwent single-port thoracoscopic radical resection for lung cancer in the Department of Thoracic Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China from June 2022 to June 2023 were retrospectively selected, and divided into two groups according to whether the vagopulmonary branch was preserved during the operation, namely, the vagopulmonary branch group (n=61) and the traditional group (n=64)...

Pralsetinib and selpercatinib are two highly potent and selective rearranged during transfection (RET) inhibitors that substantially improved the clinical outcome of patients with RET-rearranged non-small cell lung cancer. Treatment with one RET inhibitor after failure of the other is generally not recommended because of cross-resistance mechanisms. We report the case of a patient affected by metastatic RET-rearranged non-small cell lung cancer who experienced long-lasting disease control with pralsetinib. After 13 months from treatment start, the patient developed recurrent drug-related pneumonitis, requiring temporary interruptions and dose reductions and eventually failing to control the disease...

Cadherin-17 (CDH17) is a membranous cell adhesion protein predominantly expressed in intestinal epithelial cells. CDH17 is therefore considered a possible diagnostic and therapeutic target. A tissue microarray containing 14,948 interpretable samples from 150 different tumor types and subtypes as well as 76 different normal tissue types was analyzed by IHC...
