Renoureteral duplication

S P Darenkov, S B Ochcharkhadzhiev
Problem of decreasing the complications rate of intestinal urine derivation is very relevant. One of the most important problem is the stricture of urointestinal anastomosis. The problem of the choice of antireflux or direct method of ureters implantanion is not solved. Results of forming of 186 renoureteral units (RUU) according to direct method and 70 RUU according to antireflux method were analyzed by the authors. Straight anastomosis was applied according to Wallace 1 and 2 technique, antireflux--according to Abol-Enein technique or by means of transverse duplicating...

We present four cases of fetal adrenal masses detected by routine prenatal ultrasound, of which three were adrenal hemorrhages and one was a fetal neuroblastoma. The differential diagnoses of fetal adrenal mass include adrenal hemorrhage, neuroblastoma, adrenal and cortical renal cysts, pulmonary sequestrations, duplication of the renoureteral system and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome. These can pose a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma. A systematic comparison of the pre- and postnatal sonographic features including color Doppler imaging may help to differentiate adrenal hemorrhage from neuroblastoma prenatally...

OBJECTIVES: The objective was to study hydronephrosis, the most common renal malformation during the neonatal period. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We have studied 85 patients (119 renal units) with hydronephrosis. Prenatal and neonatal diagnosis were performed in 83% and 17%, respectively. Diagnosis was made by ultrasound, intravenous urography, voiding cystourethography and diuretic renogram. RESULTS: The malformations were as follows: Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJ; 40 cases), obstructive megaureter (OM; 16 cases), non-obstructive megaureter (NOM; 9 cases), multicystic kidney (MK; 8 cases), renoureteral duplication (RD; 8 cases) and posterior urethral valves (PUV; 4 cases)...

We present distribution by age, sex, clinical picture and clinical examination of 86 cases of renoureteral duplication and one of triplication of which 47 underwent surgical treatment. Intravenous urography provided direct evidence of the existence of duplication in 94%, indirect evidence in 100%, and it disclosed ipsi-or contralateral complications in 23%. Cystography demonstrated vesico ureteral reflux in 62%. Injection of contrast into the ectopic ureteral meatus, echography and gammagraphy provided data of interest in some cases...
