Luminescence in the second near-infrared (NIR-II, 1,000-1,700 nm) window is beneficial especially for deep tissue imaging and optical sensors because of intrinsic high permeability through various media. Strong electron-acceptors with low-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels are a crucial unit for donor-acceptor (D-A) π-conjugated polymers (CPs) with the NIR-II emission property, however, limited kinds of molecular skeletons are still available. Herein, D-A CPs involving fluorinated boron-fused azobenzene complexes (BAz) with enhanced electron-accepting properties are reported...

Arylazopyrazoles (AAPs) are an important class of molecular photoswitches with high photostationary states (PSS) and long thermal lifetimes. The ultrafast photoisomerization of four water-soluble arylazopyrazoles, all of them featuring an ortho -dimethylated pyrazole ring, is studied by narrowband femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. Upon S1 (nπ*) photoexcitation of the planar E -isomers ( E -AAPs), excited-state bi-exponential decays with time constants τ 1 in the 220-440 fs range and τ 2 in the 1...

Conjugated polymers (CPs) have been developed quickly as an emerging functional material with applications in optical and electronic devices, owing to their highly electron-delocalized backbones and versatile side groups for facile processibility, high mechanical strength, and environmental stability. CPs exhibit multi-stimuli responsive behavior and fluorescence quenching properties by incorporating azobenzene functionality into their molecular structures. Over the past few decades, significant progress has been made in developing functional azobenzene-based conjugated polymers (azo-CPs), utilizing diverse molecular design strategies and synthetic pathways...

The environmental pollution caused by azo dyes at high temperatures has become an urgent problem. However, little attention has been paid to decolorizing azo dyes by thermophilic consortiums. In this study, a thermophilic bacterial consortium (BCGR-T) mainly composed of two genera, namely, Caldibacillus (70.90%) and Aeribacillus (17.63%) was first enriched, which can decolorize Brilliant Crocein GR (BCGR) at high temperatures (50-75 °C), pH values of 6∼8, dye concentrations (100-400 mg/L) and salinities (1-5%, w/v)...

In this paper, we have successfully synthesized a structurally novel heteropolytungstate via coordination of four {Ru(C6 H6 )} and trivacant {TeW9 O33 } clusters, formulated as Cs4 Na2 H2 [Te2 W20 O72 (H2 O){(C6 H6 )Ru}4 ]·12H2 O ( 1 ). Compound 1 inherited the strong absorption of [Ru(C6 H6 )Cl2 ]2 in the visible region and {TeW9 O33 } in the UV region, providing a good basis for photocatalysis. As expected, compound 1 showed good photocatalytic activity in the visible-light-driven reduction of nitrobenzene using N2 H4 ·H2 O as a reductant with a yield of 99...

Peptides work as both functional molecules to modulate various biological phenomena and self-assembling artificial materials. The introduction of photoresponsive units to peptides allows the spatiotemporal remote control of their structure and function upon light irradiation. This article overviews the photoresponsive peptide design, interaction with biomolecules, and applications in self-assembling materials over the last 30 years. Peptides modified with photochromic (photoisomerizable) molecules, such as azobenzene and spiropyran, reversibly photo-controlled the binding to biomolecules and nanostructure formation through self-assembly...

Deformable liquid crystal polymers (LCPs) driven by more than one external stimulus have received extensive attention in fields ranging from multifunctional soft robots to bionic actuators. Combining responsive liquid crystal with nonmesogenic responsive groups within polymer offers a versatile way to obtain multiresponsive LCPs. However, the incorporation of nonmesogenic responsive groups causes interruption in the assembly of mesogens and brings a challenge to the alignment of LCPs. Herein, a new method is put forward to facilitate uniform mesogen alignment by exerting water vapor in the film preparation process...

Background: Hypoxia induces hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) malignancies; yet it also offers treatment opportunities, exemplified by developing hypoxia-activated prodrugs (HAPs). Although HAP TH-302 combined with therapeutic antibody (Ab) has synergistic effects, the clinical benefits are limited by the on-target off-tumor toxicity of Ab. Here, we sought to develop a hypoxia-activated anti-M2 splice isoform of pyruvate kinase (PKM2) Ab combined with TH-302 for potentiated targeting therapy. Methods: Codon-optimized and hypoxia-activation strategies were used to develop H103 Ab-azo-PEG5k (HAP103) Ab...

Regioselective functionalization at specific positions, followed by resolution step and successive transformations through Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura and Mizoroki-Heck cross-coupling chemistry furnish a series of modular PCP scaffolds. Flexible ultraviolet (UV) light detection technology has important applications in wearable devices, smart sensors and other fields, and has attracted much attention in recent years. Herein, we develop a fully flexible, large-scale, skin-friendly UV photodetector component centered on photo-responsive worm-like polymer nanoparticles (NPs), and the resulting device can quantitatively detect UV illumination...

Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) plays a pivotal role in cutting-edge display and information technologies. Currently achieving precise color control and dynamic signal regulation in CPL still remains challenging due to the elusory relationship between fluorescence and chirality. Inspired by the natural mechanisms governing color formation and chiral interaction, we proposed an addition-subtraction principle theory to address this issue. Three fluorene-based polymers synthesized by Suzuki polycondensation with different electron-deficient monomers exhibit similar structures and UV-vis absorption, but distinct fluorescence emissions due to intramolecular charge transfer...

However, construction of a framework that allows remote control of pores remains a challenge. We developed a topology-guided multicomponent polycondensation system that integrates protruded tetrafluoroazobenzene units as photoresponsive sites on pore walls at predesigned densities, so that a series of crystalline porous frameworks with the same backbone can be constructed to develop a broad spectrum of pores ranging from mesopores to micropores...

In this study, it is demonstrated that the most probable conductance of amine-anchored azobenzene-based molecular junctions increases continuously upon UV irradiation...
