ABSTRACT: Cardiorenal syndrome type 1 (CRS-1) is the acute kidney disfunction caused by an acute worsening of cardiac function. CRS-1 is the consequence of renal vasoconstriction secondary to renin-angiotensin system (RAS) activation. No animal models of CRS-1 are described in literature. PURPOSE: To characterize a murine model of CRS-1 by using a high-resolution ultrasound echo-color Doppler system (VEVO2100). MATERIALS: Post-ischemic heart failure was induced by coronary artery ligation (LAD) in seven CD1 mice...

Dysfunction of the left chamber of the heart happens when the function is not sufficient to supply all organs with needed quantity of blood, oxygen and nourishing materials. Consequence is an exhaustion of the heart compensatory and peripheral mechanisms. The research is based on the results of the analysis of residual changes that remained since acute myocardium infarct got over (scar, contracture changes, conductivity) and analysis of the remained functional part of the left chamber myocardium. Electrocardiogram, echocardiography and exercise test were used...

Sustained or chronic tachyarrhythmia can produce reversible changes of atria or/and ventricles that induce systolic or/and diastolic disfunction, dilatation of heart chambers and progressive symptoms of heart failure. The changes regress after restoration of sinus rhythm. This is the clinical case, when at the beginning of the treatment, primary dilated cardiomyopathy is diagnosed to the patient having chronic atrial fibrillation and later after restoration of sinus rhythm and subsequent reduction of heart chambers as well as improvement of systolic function, past changes was assessed as reversible arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy...

BACKGROUND: The role of diastolic disfunction in the setting of severe left ventricular (LV) disfunction is usually forgotten due to difficulties in quantification and interpretation. The propagation velocity (PV) of mitral inflow into the left ventricle has been proposed as a load independent indicator of LV diastolic function. Our aim was to correlate PV with age, body surface, chambers dimensions, wall thickness and with classic parameters of systolic and diastolic function. We had in mind the validation of this index in the quantification of LV filling and in risk stratification of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DC)...

We presented the case of a 78 year old woman who five years ago underwent myectomic surgery, and aortic valvular replacement, for obstructive cardiomyopathy and valvular aortic stenosis. After surgery, the aortic transvalvular gradient was insignificant (20 mm/Hg). In spite of this she suffers from frequent AF crises, (3 times a month), with a cardiac frequency of 140-150/min. She was in sinus bradycardia (40-45/min), which was a clear counter-indication for the use of antiarrhythmic drugs. Her ECG showed sinusal bradycardia with 45/min, a two-phase P-wave (positive-negative) in DII, DIII aVF, and bimodal P-wave in DI...

The clinical presentation of cardiac symptoms related to hypothyroidism is only rarely observed nowadays due to early diagnosis of hypothyroidism by easily available thyroid-stimulating hormone assays. A measurable abnormality of the left ventricle is the lengthened duration of contraction and relaxation, normalizing after restoration of euthyroidism. The ejection fraction and cardiac reserve are only slightly diminished in hypothyroidism. There is reversible diastolic disfunction. Pericardial effusion is a rare phenomenon...

Arterial hypertension (HBP) is a very important cardiovascular risk factor. According to the data from the Framingham Study, 90% of the patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) have a clinical history of HBP, and the risk of developing CHF is 2 to 3 times greater in hypertensive persons. Studies of general population by multivariate analysis have shown that HBP is responsible for 39% of CHF cases in males and 59% in females. On the other hand, there is a significant relation between HBP and coronary artery disease (CAD), another very important cause of CHF...
