Objective: Techniques to validate successful delivery of cell products are expensive, time-consuming, and require transport of the animal to imaging facilities, preventing their widespread use as documentation tools. The goal of this study was to determine if a low-cost portable microscope could provide sufficient performance to be used to document delivery of cell products and track retention over time. Approach: A Dino-Lite fluorescence microscope and an Odyssey CLx whole-animal scanner were compared on the basis of resolution, sensitivity, and linearity...

A relationship between reported experimental bandgaps (solid) and presently DFT-calculated binding energies (gas) is established for the first time for each of the four ten-membered lead (or tin) trihalide perovskite solar cell semiconductor series examined in this study, including CH3NH3PbY3, CsPbY3, CH3NH3SnY3 and CsSnY3, where Y = I(3 - x)Brx=1-3, I(3 - x)Clx=1-3, Br(3-x)Cl x=1-3, and IBrCl. The relationship unequivocally provides a new dimension for the fundamental understanding of the optoelectronic features of the solid state solar cell thin films using the 0 K gas-phase energetics of their corresponding molecular building blocks...

We report on a ratiometric fluorescent sensor based on dual-emission molecularly imprinted mesoporous silica embedded with carbon dots and CdTe quantum dots (mMIP@CDs/QDs) for celecoxib (CLX) as target molecule. The fluorescence of the embedded CDs is insensitive to the analyte while the green emissive QDs are selectively quenched by it. This effect is much stronger for the MIP than for the non-imprinted polymer, which indicates a good recognition ability of the mesoporous MIP. The hybrid sensor also exhibited good selectivity to CLX over other substances...

In a quest for efficient precursors for the synthesis of boratrane complexes of late transition metals, we have developed a good-yield synthetic method using [L'M(µ-Cl)Clx]2 as precursors (L' = ɳ6-p-cymene, M = Ru, x = 1; L' = COD, M = Rh, x = 0 and L' = Cp*, M = Ir or Rh, x = 1; COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene, Cp* = ɳ5-C5Me5). For example, treatment of Na[(H3B)bbza] or Na[(H2B)-mp2] (bbza = bis(benzothiazol-2-yl)amine and mp = 2-mercapto-pyridyl) with [L'M(µ-Cl)Clx]2 yielded [(ɳ6-p-cymene)RuBH{(NCSC6H4)(NR)}2], 2 (R = NCSC6H4), [{N(NCSC6H4)2}RhBH{(NCSC6H4)(NR)}2], 3 (R = NCS-C6H4), [(ɳ6-p-cymene)RuBH(L)2], 5 (L = C5H4NS), and [Cp*MBH(L)2], 6 and 7 (L = C5H4NS, M = Ir or Rh)...

Organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites (e.g., CH3 NH3 PbI3-x Clx ) emerge as a promising optoelectronic material. However, the Shockley-Queisser limit for the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite-based photovoltaic devices is still not reached. Nonradiative recombination pathways may play a significant role and appear as photoluminescence (PL) inactive (or dark) areas on perovskite films. Although these observations are related to the presence of ions/defects, the underlying fundamental physics and detailed microscopic processes, concerning trap/defect status, ion migration, etc...

Silicene and other two-dimensional materials, such as germanene and stanene, have chemically reactive surfaces and are prone to oxidation in air, and thus require an encapsulation layer for ex situ studies or integration in an electronic device. In this work, we investigated NaCl as an encapsulation material for silicene. NaCl was deposited on the surface of epitaxial silicene on ZrB2(0001) thin films near room temperature and studied using synchrotron-based high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy. The deposition of NaCl resulted in dissociative chemisorption, where the majority of epitaxial silicene reacted to form Si-Clx species...

We utilise spray-coating under ambient conditions to sequentially deposit compact-TiO2, mesoporous-TiO2, CH3NH3PbI(3-x)Clx perovskite and doped spiro-OMeTAD layers, creating a mesoporous standard architecture perovskite solar cell (PSC). The devices created had an average power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.2% and a peak PCE of 10.2%; values that compare favourably with control-devices fabricated by spin-casting that had an average efficiency of 11.4%. We show that our process can be used to create devices having an active-area of 1...

Large over-potentials owing to the sluggish kinetics of battery reactions have always been the drawbacks of Li-O2 batteries, which lead to short cycle life. Although redox mediators have been intensively investigated to overcome this issue, side-reactions are generally induced by the solvated nature of redox mediators. Herein, we report an alternative method to achieve more efficient utilization of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) in Li-O2 batteries. By coordinating TTF(+) with LiCl during charging, an organic conductor TTF(+) Clx(-) precipitate covers Li2 O2 to provide an additional electron-transfer pathway on the surface, which can significantly reduce the charge over-potential, improve the energy efficiency of Li-O2 batteries, and eliminate side-reactions between the lithium metal anode and TTF(+) ...

Ionizing radiation causes DNA damage and chromosome abbreviations on normal cells. The radioprotective effect of celecoxib (CLX) was investigated against genotoxicity induced by ionizing radiation in cultured human blood lymphocytes. Peripheral blood samples were collected from human volunteers and were incubated at different concentrations at 1, 5, 10 and 50 μM of CLX for two hours. At each dose point, the whole blood was exposed in vitro to 150 cGy of X-ray, and then the lymphocytes were cultured with mitogenic stimulation to determine the micronucleus frequency in cytokinesis blocked binucleated lymphocytes...

Mixed halide Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are commonly produced by depositing PbCl2 and CH3NH3I from a common solvent followed by thermal annealing, which in an up-scaled manufacturing process is likely to take place under ambient conditions. However, it has been reported that, similar to the effects of thermal annealing, ambient humidity also affects the crystallisation behaviour and subsequent growth of the Perovskite films. This implies that both of these factors must be accounted for in solar cell production...

Ruthenium complexes are promising candidates for anticancer agents, especially NKP-1339 (sodium trans-[tetrachloridobis(1H-indazole)ruthenate(III)]), which is on the edge to clinical applications. The anticancer mechanism seems to be tightly linked to the redox chemistry but despite progress in human clinical trials the in vivo Ru oxidation state and the coordination of Ru remains unclear. The Ru-based anticancer drug NKP-1339 was studied applying XANES (Cl K- and Ru L2,3-edges) in tumor, kidney and liver tissue of a SW480 bearing mouse...

HYPOTHESIS: Chlorhexidine (CLX) is a good antimicrobial agent, but its use in treatment of wounds is limited because of its cytotoxicity towards human fibroblasts. A delivery system, able to release CLX in a localized and prolonged manner, could guarantee antimicrobial activity with reduced cytotoxic. Thus in this work the preparation and characterization of chitosan/montmorillonite composite films containing CLX, able to offer a prolonged CLX release, is described. The antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities and cytotoxicity of films were investigated...
