OBJECTIVE: This clinical study aimed to evaluate the effect of virtual reality (VR) technology on anxiety and pain levels in patients undergoing gingivectomy and gingivoplasty procedures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The patients were randomized into test (surgery with VR glasses) and control (surgery without VR glasses) groups. Before the surgery, the anxiety level was measured using the modified dental anxiety scale (MDAS), and anticipated pain (AP) was measured by a visual analog scale (VAS)...

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of wound healing using injectable platelet-rich fibrin (IPRF) after gingivectomy and gingivoplasty. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this clinical study, 46 systemically healthy patients with chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement were randomly treated with gingivectomy-gingivoplasty + I-PRF (n=23) or gingivectomy-gingivoplasty alone (n=23). The primary outcome was to evaluate the effect of I-PRF on wound healing over a 3-week follow-up period...

The aetiology of gingival enlargement (GE) is highly distinct. Plaque-induced gingival inflammation can be the sole reason for gingival enlargement. Poor dental hygiene, irritation from anatomical variations, and ineffective restorative and orthodontic appliances are all factors that encourage the formation and retention of plaque. In the given case report, a case of gingival enlargement associated with an orthodontic appliance of a 23-year-old female patient referred from the Department of Orthodontics was reported to the Department of Periodontics...

Linguoverted mandibular canine teeth (LMC) are a common cause of class 1 malocclusion, which may result in a traumatic occlusion. When deciduous LMC are diagnosed, extraction is commonly performed to alleviate traumatic occlusion. This retrospective study was designed to observe the outcome of the permanent dentition in dogs with a class 1 malocclusion receiving treatment for deciduous LMC. Medical records from a veterinary dental referral hospital were used to identify patients that underwent extraction of deciduous LMC's prior to the eruption of the permanent mandibular canine teeth...

BACKGROUND: Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is characterized by sub-epithelial fibromatosis of keratinized gingiva resulting in a fibrotic enlargement of keratinized gingiva. The treatment choice is gingivectomy, which can be performed with an internal or external bevel incision conventionally. However, both techniques can hardly resume the natural status of gingiva, and have a certain recurrence rate, especially in the cases which have limited width of attached gingiva. CASE DESCRIPTION: Two cases of HGF with the chief complaint of difficulty in mastication, pronunciation, and poor esthetics were presented...

Idiopathic gingival fibromatosis (IGF) is a rare, benign, slow-growing proliferation of the gingival tissues involving both maxillary and mandibular gingiva. It is exacerbated during the eruptive phase of both primary and permanent dentitions. The purpose of this article is to report the case of a 10-year-old boy who presented with IGF whose gingival enlargement covered the occlusal surfaces of many teeth and displaced the erupting dentition, compromising the patient's cosmetics, function, speech and development...

METHOD AND MATERIALS: In this split-mouth study, gingivectomy and gingivoplasty surgery were performed on 19 patients. The postoperative PRF, CGF, and AFG applied areas were compared with the control regions. Radiosurgery (RS) has evolved from electrosurgery and uses ultra-high-frequency radio waves at a frequency ranging from 3 to 4 MHz. It is used to address numerous soft-tissue concerns in dentistry and as well as medicine with excellent and predictable results. A review of the indexed literature disclosed that RS has been employed for various periodontal procedures such as gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, crown lengthening, minimally invasive closed osteotomy, frenectomies, operculectomies, depigmentation, gingival curettage, periodontal flap procedures, mucogingival surgeries, harvesting soft-tissue grafts, and also in implantology...

Introduction: A diode laser is one of the universally compact accepted laser systems used fundamentally for soft tissue applications. Most diode laser devices have a single wavelength of either 810 nm for superior coagulation or 980 nm for tissue ablation. In these case series, the use of dual wavelengths (810 nm and 980 nm) in combination with super pulsing has provided a cleaner cut (no charring) with faster healing that eases the placement of the final restoration in the esthetic zone...

Gingival enlargement is a common periodontal pathology seen in medically compromised patients. Although it is not the disease itself, certain medications used to treat these chronic diseases are known to precipitate the gingival enlargement. Periodontitis (PD) and gingival enlargement have been reported increasingly in patients with chronic renal failure. Severe enlargement is detrimental to esthetics and function while having a negative impact on the overall oral health-related quality of life. Treatment of such cases requires comprehensive periodontal management by a specialist, keeping in mind the medically compromised state of the patient...

After gingivectomy and gingivoplasty, the left-hand side of the symmetrical surgical area was irradiated with NTAPP (plasma jet kINPen 11). Our aim is to describe a family with a nonsyndromic form of hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) and discuss genetic characteristics of this rare disease by reviewing reported cases. A mother and three descendants were diagnosed with HGF. There was marked variable expressivity: from severe generalized gingival overgrowth in a 16-year-old boy (the proband) to minimal manifestations in the mother. The proband was submitted to gingivectomy and gingivoplasty. In younger siblings, the disease remained stable for 5 years, suggesting that clinical surveillance is a good option...

An 8-year-old boy reported with a chief complaint of gingival enlargement. A series of examinations were performed to make a diagnosis and family histories of the patient were recorded...

Background: Lasers have become a part of modern dentistry since the past three decades. A wide-ranging assortment of lasers is being used in periodontology for both soft and hard tissue surgical procedures. Regardless of the frequent practice of using these well-known surgical lasers, there is another lesser familiar class of lasers called the low-level lasers. The main doctrine behind using low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is centered on the biostimulation, or the biomodulation effect, which relies on the dexterity of low-intensity laser energy when irradiated at a specific wavelength, is able to modify cellular activities (increase in cell metabolism and fibroblast and keratinocyte proliferation)...

Gingival enlargement refers to any increase in the size of normal gingiva. The gingiva may be enlarged in response to various interactions between the host and the environment. It can be of various types including inflammatory, drug induced, associated with systemic disease, neoplastic, false, and idiopathic. Idiopathic gingival enlargement is a rare condition of undetermined etiology. The enlargement can be localized or generalized to entire dentition and is usually associated with the emergence of the teeth into the oral cavity and may regress after extraction...
