Over the decades, female sexual dysfunction (FSD) has grown to be an increasingly potential problem that complicates the quality of life among women. In the current review, FSD refers to recurrent and persistent problems with sexual orgasm, desire, or response. One of the most common subtypes of FSD that has evoked increased research interest in the scientific community is hyposexuality. Today, there is a consensus that hyposexuality is a multifactorial condition that manifests with reduced sexual desire resulting in significant interpersonal distress...

p.R375W (Fibrinogen Aguadilla) is one out of seven identified mutations (Brescia, Aguadilla, Angers, Al du Pont, Pisa, Beograd, and Ankara) causing hepatic storage of the mutant fibrinogen γ. The Aguadilla mutation has been reported in children from the Caribbean, Europe, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and China. All reported children presented with a variable degree of histologically proven chronic liver disease and low plasma fibrinogen levels. In addition, one Japanese and one Turkish child had concomitant hypo-APOB-lipoproteinemia of unknown origin...

Maternal separation stress (MS) is a model of early life stress performed by the separation between dam and pups in the first days of life. This model has been associated with eating behavior and dopaminergic system abnormal phenotypes. This study aims to investigate whether maternal separation in the light or dark phase of the circadian cycle promotes phenotypic adjustments in the eating behavior and the dopamine system in both males and females. Lactating Wistar rats were separated from their litters from postnatal day 1 (PND 1) to PND 14 for 6 h in the light or dark phase of the circadian cycle...

A model of ice floe break-up under ocean wave forcing in the marginal ice zone (MIZ) is proposed to investigate how floe size distribution (FSD) evolves under repeated wave break-up events. A three-dimensional linear model of ocean wave scattering by a finite array of compliant circular ice floes is coupled to a flexural failure model, which breaks a floe into two floes provided the two-dimensional stress field satisfies a break-up criterion. A closed-feedback loop algorithm is devised, which (i) solves the wave-scattering problem for a given FSD under time-harmonic plane wave forcing, (ii) computes the stress field in all the floes, (iii) fractures the floes satisfying the break-up criterion, and (iv) generates an updated FSD, initializing the geometry for the next iteration of the loop...

Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is a complex condition that involves both psychological and organic domains, including the cardiovascular system, and has an impact on quality of life in more than one third of women. However, only few papers are available in the medical literature regarding FSD and its relation with cardiac diseases. In this review, we discuss the physiology of sexual intercourse in women, the pathophysiology of FSD, the sexual counseling to provide, and the therapeutic choices to minimize the negative impact of cardiovascular diseases on female sexual activity...

Fluctuating selection driven by coevolution between hosts and parasites is important for the generation of host and parasite diversity across space and time. Theory has focused primarily on infection genetics, with highly specific 'matching-allele' frameworks more likely to generate fluctuating selection dynamics (FSD) than 'gene-for-gene' (generalist-specialist) frameworks. However, the environment, ecological feedbacks and life-history characteristics may all play a role in determining when FSD occurs. Here, we develop eco-evolutionary models with explicit ecological dynamics to explore the ecological, epidemiological and host life-history drivers of FSD...

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: There is a difference of opinion in the literature as to whether pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a direct cause of female sexual dysfunction (FSD). Sexual function in women is negatively impacted by the presence of urinary symptoms. Thus, sexual dysfunction (SD) might be improved, unchanged, or worsened by pelvic floor surgery. METHODS: In this study, we observed SD and impact of surgical intervention on female sexual function (FSF) using a validated Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire Short Form (PISQ-12) in women undergoing surgery for POP with or without urinary incontinence...

Flibanserin is the first US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved option for sexual dysfunction, specifically low sexual desire. Until recently, there were no FDA-approved medication options to assist the ~40% of women affected by female sexual dysfunction (FSD). Often, patients report feeling uncomfortable discussing sexual health, identifying a strong need for health care professionals (HCPs) to proactively reach out to patients to identify concerns and initiate a discussion about sexual health and the available treatment options...

OBJECTIVES: Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) affects a significant portion of the population. Although treatment options for FSD are limited, neuromodulation for bladder dysfunction has improved sexual function in some women. A few studies have investigated peripheral neuromodulation for eliciting changes in vaginal blood flow, as a proxy for modulating genital sexual arousal, however results are generally transient. Our central hypothesis is that repeated or extended-duration pudendal nerve stimulation can elicit maintained vaginal blood flow increases...

BACKGROUND: Research has repeatedly suggested genetic and environmental factors in the etiology underlying female sexual dysfunction (FSD). Because sexual functioning is a highly variable trait, epigenetics could provide a promising approach to tackle the origins of FSD and consequently offer a step-change in our understanding of these problems. AIM: To identify differentially methylated CpG positions for sexual functioning in a sample of monozygotic twin pairs discordant for sexual functioning...

Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is highly prevalent in women with diabetes mellitus (DM), yet it remains unaddressed, undiagnosed, and untreated. Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) is the most common complaint among women with FSD, but there is a paucity of research into its multifactorial etiology. Flibanserin is the only therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for treating acquired, generalized HSDD in premenopausal women. Women with DM diagnosed with HSDD may require a multidisciplinary approach for optimal management...
