The development of novel imaging platforms has improved our ability to collect and analyze large three-dimensional (3D) biological imaging datasets. Advances in computing have led to an ability to extract complex spatial information from these data, such as the composition, morphology, and interactions of multi-cellular structures, rare events, and integration of multi-modal features combining anatomical, molecular, and transcriptomic (among other) information. Yet, the accuracy of these quantitative results is intrinsically limited by the quality of the input images, which can contain missing or damaged regions, or can be of poor resolution due to mechanical, temporal, or financial constraints...

Paraneoplastic myelopathies are a rare but important category of myelopathy. They usually present with an insidious or subacute progressive neurologic syndrome. Risk factors include tobacco use and family history of cancer. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis usually shows lymphocytic pleocytosis with elevated protein. MRI findings suggest that paraneoplastic myelopathies include longitudinally extensive T2 hyperintensities that are tract-specific and accompanied by enhancement, but spinal MRIs can also be normal...

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) can be diagnosed prenatally and its severity assessed by fetal imaging. The prognosis of a fetus with CDH is based on whether or not the hernia is isolated, the measurement of lung volume on ultrasound and MRI, and the position of the liver. The birth of a child with CDH should take place in a center adapted to the care of such children, and in accordance with the recommendations defined by the French National Diagnosis and Care Protocol. It has recently been demonstrated that for moderate and severe forms of CDH, tracheal occlusion using a balloon placed in utero by fetoscopy (FETO) increases survival until discharge from the neonatal unit, but at the cost of an increased risk of prematurity...

OBJECTIVE: Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital abnormalities, and usually asymptomatic until adulthood. We present a fetus prenatally diagnosed with a bronchogenic cyst, experiencing compression symptoms immediately after birth and underwent thoracoscopic surgery at 14 days old. CASE REPORT: A 33-year-old primigravida had a suspicion of fetal tracheal cyst. Prenatal ultrasound scan revealed a cyst near the trachea at 23 weeks' gestation. Fetal MRI defined a cystic lesion in the upper mediastinum, displacing surrounding vessels...

INTRODUCTION/RATIONALE: Protein biomarkers may help enable the prediction of incident interstitial features on chest CT. METHODS: We identified which protein biomarkers in a cohort of smokers (COPDGene) differed between those with and without objectively measured interstitial features at baseline using a univariate screen (t-test false discovery rate, FDR p<0.001), and which of those were associated with interstitial features longitudinally (multivariable mixed effects model FDR p<0...

BACKGROUND: Postacute Covid-19 patients commonly present with respiratory symptoms; however, a noninvasive imaging method for quantitative characterization of respiratory patterns is lacking. PURPOSE: To evaluate if quantitative characterization of respiratory pattern on free-breathing higher temporal resolution MRI stratifies patients by cardiopulmonary symptom burden. STUDY TYPE: Prospective analysis of retrospectively acquired data. SUBJECTS: A total of 37 postacute Covid-19 patients (25 male; median [interquartile range (IQR)] age: 58 [42-64] years; median [IQR] days from acute infection: 335 [186-449])...

BACKGROUND: Intramedullary Spinal Cord Abscess (ISCA) is an uncommon infectious disease of the central nervous system. Since its first report in 1830, there have been very few documented cases associated with it. Here, we present a case of ISCA with cerebral abscess caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae. CASE PRESENTATION: A 55-year-old male patient presented with head and neck pain, fever, and left limb weakness for 5 days. The diagnosis of ISCA with brain abscess caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae was confirmed through sputum culture, cerebrospinal fluid gene test, pus culture, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as well as computerized tomography (CT) scan...

Increased attention has been given to MRI in radiation-free screening for malignant nodules in recent years. Our objective was to compare the performance of human readers and radiomic feature analysis based on stand-alone and complementary CT and MRI imaging in classifying pulmonary nodules. This single-center study comprises patients with CT findings of pulmonary nodules who underwent additional lung MRI and whose nodules were classified as benign/malignant by resection. For radiomic features analysis, 2D segmentation was performed for each lung nodule on axial CT, T2-weighted (T2w), and diffusion (DWI) images...

In brain metastases, radiation necrosis (RN) is a complication that arises after single or multiple fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/FSRS), which is challenging to distinguish from local recurrence (LR). Studies have shown increased RN incidence rates in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with oncogenic driver mutations (ODMs) or receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). This study investigated enlarging brain lesions following SRS/FSRS, for which additional surgeries were performed to distinguish between RN and LR...

Cystic echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus and causes significant morbidity, especially in endemic areas. It may remain asymptomatic for a long period. The clinical presentation depends on the exertion of pressure on adjacent organs or the sudden rupture of formed cysts. The presence of primary retroperitoneal echinococcal cysts, with no other organ involvement, has been scarcely reported in the literature. The aim of this study is to present the case of a 69-year-old male complaining of right flank pain for a month...

A 29-year-old primigravida at 31 weeks of gestation was referred for intrathoracic kidney (ITK). Ultrasound revealed left kidney intrathoracic placement with an anteriorly positioned ectopic adrenal gland. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed diaphragmatic interruption and colon herniation. A female neonate, delivered at 37 weeks, underwent successful thoracoscopic repair for a left Bochdalek hernia. Despite compression of the left lung, notably optimistic lung-to-head ratio (LHR) values were observed, correlating with favorable outcomes...

Equivalent uniform aerobic dose (EUAD) is proposed for comparison of integrated cell survival in tumors with different distributions of hypoxia and radiation dose. The EUAD assumes that for any non-uniform distributions of radiation dose and oxygen enhancement ratio (OER) within a tumor, there is a uniform distribution of radiation dose under hypothetical aerobic conditions with OER=1 that produces equal integrated survival of clonogenic cells. This definition of EUAD has several advantages. First, the EUAD allows one to compare survival of clonogenic cells in tumors with intra-tumor and inter-tumor variation of radio sensitivity due to hypoxia because the cell survival is recomputed under the same benchmark oxygen level (OER=1)...

INTRODUCTION: Non-invasive detection of pathological changes in thoracic aortic disease remains an unmet clinical need particularly for patients with congenital heart disease. Positron emission tomography combined with magnetic resonance imaging (PET-MRI) could provide a valuable low-radiation method of aortic surveillance in high-risk groups. Quantification of aortic microcalcification activity using sodium [18 F]fluoride holds promise in the assessment of thoracic aortopathies. We sought to evaluate aortic sodium [18 F]fluoride uptake in PET-MRI using three methods of attenuation correction compared to positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET-CT) in patients with bicuspid aortic valve, METHODS: Thirty asymptomatic patients under surveillance for bicuspid aortic valve disease underwent sodium [18 F]fluoride PET-CT and PET-MRI of the ascending thoracic aorta during a single visit...
