The aim of this study was to test whether the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV), and DSM-5 conduct disorder (CD) subtyping approaches identify adolescents with concurrent psychiatric morbidity and an increased risk to reoffend. A diagnostic interview was used to assess childhood-onset CD (CoCD), adolescent-onset CD (AoCD), and concurrent psychiatric morbidity in 223 detained male adolescents. The callous-unemotional (CU) specifier was established through a self-report questionnaire...

BACKGROUND: Workplace exposures that can potentially cause both allergic occupational contact dermatitis (AOCD) and occupational asthma (OA) are not clearly identified. METHODS: Occupational contact allergens (OCAs) were identified using North American Contact Dermatitis Group (NACDG) data. Reference documents and systematic reviews were used to determine whether each OCA had been reported to potentially cause OA. The presence or absence of a sensitizer notation in occupational hygiene reference documents was also examined...

BACKGROUND: The rocking and instability of a loaded complete denture (CD) during lateral excursion reduce the bearing area under the denture base, causing localized high stress concentrations. This can lead to mucosal tenderness, ulceration, and alveolar bone resorption, and the linear occlusion design was to decrease the lateral force exerted on the denture and to ensure denture stability. But it is not known how the bearing areas of linear occlusal CDs (LOCDs) and anatomic occlusal CDs (AOCDs) differ...

In a longitudinal study, we performed a second follow-up examination on patients suffering from osteochondritis dissecans at the femoral condyles 10 years after a first follow-up, which had been performed 10 years after surgical treatment. Results (clinical score; radiological signs of OA) were analysed depending on the stage of the epiphyseal plate at the time of surgery, the used surgical procedure was divided into retrograde and anterograde procedures, and removal of loose bodies depending on the stage of the lesion...

As the unified training body for osteopathic physicians specializing in dermatology, the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD) sponsors 18 dermatology residency programs that integrate academic training (focusing on the core of basic medical sciences) with clinical instruction (emphasizing specialized diagnostic and laboratory techniques and the high-level performance of all dermatologic and surgical procedures) to engender the ability to provide superior, specialized dermatologic care. The board of directors of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommended passage of a bylaws amendment establishing a category of osteopathic fellow for those osteopathic physicians who are certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology; however, the AAD membership failed to adopt the amendment by the required two-thirds majority...

The present study tested several predictions related to the theory that girls with conduct disorder (CD) follow a single delayed onset pathway. The following hypotheses were tested among a high-risk, stratified random sample of youth who used public services during a 6-month period: boys will be more likely to have childhood onset CD (COCD) than girls; girls with COCD will be less common than girls with adolescent onset CD (AOCD); COCD girls. AOCD girls, and COCD boys will be similar in terms of risk profiles and AOCD boys will have a less severe risk profile than COCD girls; and risk factors that differentiate between COCD and AOCD among males will not differentiate between COCD and AOCD among females...

Osteochondritis dissecans is a rare condition which occurs most frequently in the medial condyle of the knee. Its prognosis remains controversial. We report our experience with transchondral drilling (TCD) for osteochondritis dissecans. The rationale for this low-morbidity procedure is to enhance the healing potential of a lesion which failed to heal after conservative treatment. This multicenter retrospective study examined 24 patients (25 medial condyles), including cases both before (juvenile osteochondritis dissecans, JOCD; n=17) and after closure of the physis (adult osteochondritis dissecans, AOCD; n=8)...

The skeletal system is a common target of glucocorticoids. Structural and functional impairment of skeletal system is a relevant cause of morbidity and disability in patients with Cushing's syndrome. Thirty-six patients long-term (3.9 +/- 0.5 yrs) cured from Cushing's disease (CD), 26 with adulthood-onset CD (AOCD) and 10 with childhood-onset CD (COCD) and 2 groups of controls, 24 age- and sex-matched patients with nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas (NFA) and 36 age- and sex-matched healthy subjects (HS), entered this open transversal controlled study to evaluate the prevalence of spine abnormalities and damage by standard radiography in subjects with a history of Cushing's syndrome...

A simple, sensitive, and mild method for the determination of amino compounds based on a condensation reaction with fluorescence detection has been developed. 9-(2-Hydroxyethyl)acridone reacts with coupling agent N,N'-carbonyldiimidazole at ambient temperature to form activated amide intermediate 9-(2-acridone)oxyethylcarbonylimidazole (AOCD). The amide intermediate (AOCD) preferably reacts with amino compounds under mild reactions in the presence of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (base catalyst) in acetonitrile to give the corresponding sensitively fluorescent derivatives with an excitation maximum at lambda(ex) 404 nm and an emission maximum at lambda(em) 440 nm...

OBJECTIVE: Acute increases in afterload and in left ventricular asynchrony both independently prolong left ventricular isovolumetric relaxation. The aim of the study was to investigate whether an increased left ventricular afterload augments left ventricular asynchrony, which in turn could mediate the afterload dependent prolongation of left ventricular isovolumetric relaxation. METHODS: Seven chloralose anaesthetised open chest dogs were instrumented with a left ventricular pressure gauge and two pairs of ultrasonic wall thickness crystals in the antero-apical and postero-basal left ventricular wall...
