Methabolic syndrome

Rosa A Perricone, Antonio Pizzuti
The primitive genome's and the individual phenotype's modifications by epigenetic surveys are crucial to evaluate the metabolic syndrome risk and its prevention. Through the most recent surveys, this analysis aimed to several processes by which the various epigenetic types, who are different from one to another subject, may act on the metabolism key-genes, like that they even indirectly arouse the straight onset of one or more metabolic syndromes: the risk of passing this syndrome to next offspring is more or less high...

Experience of laparoscopic gastric shunting application in accordance to the Fobi - Capello procedure in 15 patients, suffering morbid obesity (MO), was adduced. The surgical intervention technique was adduced, first results were analyzed, which are witnessing the effective lowering of the excessive body mass while followup to 6 mo postoperatively.

The aim of this paper is to provide a systematic review of the role of the genetic factors, detoxication systems and oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of endometriosis and infertility. Endometriosis and infertility are still both the most uncommon diseases in gynecology. Many aspects of female reproductive function are strongly influenced by genetic factors, and numerous studies have attempted to identify susceptibility genes for disorders affecting female fertility such as polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, fibroids, cancer (ovarian, vulvar, cervical), premature ovarian failure, recurrent pregnancy loss and pre-eclampsia...

to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of biocomplexes "Normoflorin L, B" in the treatment of functional bowel disease with constipation syndrome. The study involved 30 patients with functional bowel disease (Rome criteria III, 2006), with irritable bowel syndrome with predominance of constipatio--16 people with functional constipation--14 people. The criteria of efficacy were: the dynamics of clinical symptoms, bacteriological examination of feces before and after treatment, intestinal transit time of Activated Charcoa- "carbolen" test the definition of short-chain fatty acids (SFA) in the feces by gas-liquid chromatography before and after treatment...

Constipation--is a frequent clinical syndrome, which occurs in approximately 15-25% of population. Investigations carried out during the last decade have contributed to a better understanding of the basic mechanisms of chronic constipation (CC), in particular its relationship to colonic transit and anorectal function. All possible causes affecting the occurance of constipation (methabolic, deficiency of fiber, medicines) should be taken into consideration at the patient's examination and anorectal pathology should be excluded...

The infection from Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) or virus of infectious mononucleosis, together with other herpes viruses' infections, represents a prototype of persistent viral infections characterized by the property of the latency. Although the reactivations of the latent infection are associated with the resumption of the viral replication and eventually with the "shedding", it is still not clear if this virus can determine chronic infectious diseases, more or less evolutive. These diseases could include some pathological conditions actually defined as "idiopathic"and characterized by the "viral persistence" as the more credible pathogenetic factor...

Hyperuricemia (HU) is considered to be a sign of metabolic syndrome as a consequence of purine metabolism disorder. To investigate alterations in uric acid (UA) methabolism, 90 subjects (M/F 53/37, aged 58 +/- 4 yr) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) were divided into 5 groups depending on the amount of excreted UA and its content in blood plasma. HU was found in 29% of patients, while hyperpoduction of UA was characteristic in 87% patients. Normo- or hypouricemia in majority of patients were mostly connected to kidney hyperfiltration and "compensatory" hyperuricosuria...

The objective of the work was the study of particular features of fatty acid (FA) composition of the low density lipoproteids (LDL) in patients with metabolic syndrome (MS) (39,7+/-3,4 years). In patients with MS, compared to the healthy adults of the same age was revealed a significant increase in saturated FAs and significant decrease in unsaturated and polyunsaturated FAs in LDL particles. Significant correlation was revealed between indexes of abdominal adiposity, intima media thickness of arteria carotis communis, and level of some FAs in the LDLs...

Cirrhosis is the terminal phase of hepatic fibrosis, that leads to impaired hepatic function and blood flow. Liver cirrhosis is the final stage of many hepatic diseases characterized by chronic cellular destruction. The complications of liver cirrosis are the result of the hepatocellular lesion and portal hypertension. The most frequent complications are ascites, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, hepatic encephalopathy, gastroesophageal varices, portal hypertensive gastropathy, hypersplenism, hepatocellular carcinoma, methabolic disorders, hepatorenal syndrome and hepatopulmonary syndrome...

This qualitative study aims at apprehending the meanings and beliefs of caregiver of people with methabolic syndrome in the domiciliar context. It used the symbolic interactionism as theoretical referential, following the content analysis approach of Bardin. For data collection the semi-structured interviews and the free observation were used, in the period from march to may, 2005. The results demonstrate important work overload delivered to the relative by the caregiver, which implies in meaningful impact about physical, emotional and social health...

The analysis of correlation between cardiovascular diseases and hyperuricaemia as a component of methabolic syndrome has been performed; the emphasis has been done on predominant mechanism of its development -- reduction of renal clearance. The need for primary prophylaxis of stroke with a help of safe metabolically antihypertensive therapy has been substantiated. The results of secondary analysis of LIFE study represented its results on effective primary prophylaxis of stroke depending on the dynamic of serum uric acid levels taking into account uricosuric effect of losartan have been discussed...

There were examined 65 patients with multiple gastroduodenal ulcers. The formation of secondary immune deficiency state on background of endogenic "methabolic" intoxication syndrome was noted in them. The blood immune indexes normalization was promoted by cycloferon and erbisol incorporation in complex of surgical treatment of multiple gastroduodenal ulcers. While conduction of the dispensary follow-up observation in 80% of patients the laboratory indexes have had persisted normal. In 20% of patients the conduction of repeated course of treatment, using erbisol and cycloferon, is indicated in 6-8 months after surgical treatment...
