Small bowel malignancies are relatively rare, accounting for only 3% of all gastrointestinal cancers. Duodenum is the most common location among small bowel cancers, followed by Jejunum and then Ileum. Duodenal adenocarcinoma produces vague symptoms, leading to late presentation and a poor prognosis compared to similarly staged colon cancer. It is rare to have brain metastasis in duodenal adenocarcinoma, and not many case reports have been reported. Only approximately 6% of patients with gastrointestinal malignancy have brain metastasis...

A 28-year-old female with a history of treatment for small intestinal polyps and characteristic pigmentation of her lip was clinically diagnosed with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome(PJS). Her sister had the pathogenic variant of STK11 upon genetic testing. A 20-mm polyp was identified in the second part the patient's duodenum on routine gastrointestinal surveillance, and biopsy revealed a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma. Laparoscopic partial duodenectomy with endoscopy was planned. After confirming the location of the tumor and Kocherization using a laparoscope, the polyp was resected via submucosal dissection under direct visualization with a small incision...

INTRODUCTION: Solid organ malignancies rarely metastasize to the duodenal papilla. We describe a case of primary lung cancer with duodenal papillary metastasis in a patient who presented with melena. To the best of our knowledge, this is only the second report of duodenal papillary metastasis from lung cancer. CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old woman presented with complaints of anorexia, weight loss, and black stool. Imaging studies led to a clinical diagnosis of stage IVB lung cancer, and anticoagulants were initiated to treat pulmonary artery thrombosis...

INTRODUCTION: Over 90% of the patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) will develop duodenal adenomas. AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of endoscopic excision of large duodenal adenomas in FAP patients. METHODS: All FAP patients from a familial risk clinic submitted to endoscopic therapy for duodenal adenomas ≥10 mm between January 2010 and February 2021 were included. RESULTS: From 151 FAP families, 22 patients (50 lesions) were included: 54...

This international multicenter cohort study included 30 centers. Patients with duodenal adenocarcinoma (DAC), intestinal-type (AmpIT) and pancreatobiliary-type (AmpPB) ampullary adenocarcinoma, distal cholangiocarcinoma (dCCA), and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) were included. The primary outcome was 30-day or in-hospital mortality, and secondary outcomes were major morbidity (Clavien-Dindo 3b≥), clinically relevant post-operative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF), and length of hospital stay (LOS)...

Gastric cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, necessitates effective and early detection and treatment strategies. Endoscopic resection techniques, particularly endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), have evolved significantly, enhancing the treatment of gastric neoplasms. Underwater endoscopic mucosal resection (UEMR) is a widely used technique for the resection of duodenal and colorectal neoplasms. However, the feasibility and efficacy of UEMR in the stomach are not well established...

Lung adenocarcinoma, the predominant subtype of non-small cell lung cancer, typically metastasizes to common sites such as the liver and adrenal glands. However, rare instances involve skeletal muscle metastasis. We present a case of a 45-year-old female with a medical history of hypertension, epilepsy, and fibromyalgia, who presented to the emergency department with hemoptysis and multifocal pain. Chest imaging revealed a cavitary lesion which appeared to be necrotizing pneumonia. Further investigations uncovered a fluid collection in the left thigh, which would be identified as poorly differentiated carcinoma...

Primary carcinoma of the duodenum, especially mucinous carcinoma of the duodenum, is extremely rare. We present a case of a long-term response to chemotherapy in mucinous carcinoma of the duodenum with multiple distant metastases. A 60-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with epigastric pain and jaundice. CT showed a thickening of the duodenal wall; extensive lymphadenopathy around the head of the pancreas, in the para-aortic region and the mediastinum; suspected peritoneal dissemination; lung metastases; and bone metastases...

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) are rare gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies, but the most prevalent mesenchymal tumours of the GI tract arise from the interstitial cells of Cajal. They account for 1-3% of all GI malignancies, and only 3-5% of all cases of GIST are located at the duodenal. We present a case of a young adult who presented to the ED with symptoms of GI bleeding.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a high mortality rate owing to its late diagnosis and aggression. In addition, there are relatively few minimally invasive screening methods for the early detection of PDAC, making the identification of biomarkers for this disease a critical priority. Recent studies have reported that microRNAs in extracellular vesicles (EV-miRs) from bodily fluids can be useful for the diagnosis of PDACs. Given this, we designed this study to evaluate the utility of cancer EVs extracted from duodenal fluid (DF) and their resident EV-miRs as potential biomarkers for the detection of PDAC...

Gastric extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) is a rare presentation of a rare disease. We report a 33-year-old woman presenting with epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting. Endoscopic examination revealed gastric and duodenal ulceration. Biopsy of the ulcers revealed ENKTL. The patient began treatment, but developed hemorrhagic shock from her ulcers and died. Gastric ENKTL is a rare disease that presents with gastric ulceration. It has a high rate of mortality, and treatment is challenging because of its aggressive nature and lack of high-quality data to guide therapy...

Obesity and obesity-related conditions today constitute a public health problem worldwide. Obesity is an "epidemic" chronic disorder, which is defined by the WHO as normal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health. It is also defined for adults as a BMI that is greater than or equal to 30. The most common obesity-related diseases are type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, chronic kidney disease, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and certain types of cancer...

Cannabis is a plant that is cultivated worldwide, and its use is internationally regulated, but some countries have been regulating its medicinal, social, and industrial uses. This plant must have arrived in Peru during the Spanish conquest and remains widely cultivated illicitly or informally to this day. However, new regulations are currently being proposed to allow its legal commercialization for medicinal purposes. Cannabis contains specific metabolites known as cannabinoids, some of which have clinically demonstrated therapeutic effects...
