INTRODUCTION: In the management of cloaca, there is concern that dissection of the urogenital sinus in early childhood with the aim of total anatomical correction is hazardous. Avoiding such mobilization and providing mitrofanoff channel, when needed, till peripubertal period reduces complications and is technically easier. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-three cases of cloaca were managed in the period 2004-2016. Case records and radiology were reviewed retrospectively...

BACKGROUND: Vaginal aplasia occurs in 1 in 5,000-10,000 female live births. In this report, we evaluated a novel dual-force vaginoplasty technique for treatment of 11 patients with segmental vaginal aplasia. TECHNIQUE: The principle of the approach is to thin the atretic part between two counteracting forces. The instrument was inserted laparoscopically into the proximal hematocolpos. Two balloon catheters, one for drainage and one for traction, were threaded over the inserter...

BACKGROUND: Surveys on quality of life (QOL) of male-to-female (MTF) transsexuals have found low QOL scores before and increased satisfaction scores after sex-reassignment surgery (SRS). To our knowledge, many of them lack standardized questionnaires and comparisons with normative data to evaluate different vaginoplasty techniques. AIM: To analyze patient satisfaction and QOL after SRS. METHODS: Forty-seven patients participated in this study...

BACKGROUND: The number of patients seeking sex reassignment surgery is increasing. Approximately 1:30,000 adult males and 1: 100,000 adult females seek this procedure. Neovaginal-related disorders after sex reassignment surgery are increasingly more common. Vulvar condylomatosis is the clinical manifestation of HPV 6- and 11 infection in biological women. The same HPV-subtypes are associated with anogenital warts and penile intraepithelial neoplasia in biological men. We aim to present a case of vulvar condylomatosis after sex reassignment surgery in a male-to-female transsexual and its complete response to 5% imiquimod cream...

BACKGROUND: A rising number of female-affirmed transgender adolescents are being treated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues and subsequently cross-sex hormones at early or mid-puberty, with vaginoplasty as the presumed final step in their physical transition. But, despite the minimum age of 18 years defining eligibility to undergo this irreversible procedure, anecdotal reports have shown that vaginoplasties are being performed on minors by surgeons in the United States, thereby contravening the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) standards of care (SOC)...

INTRODUCTION: Adequate anatomic and physiologic functions of the genitalia are fundamental prerequisites for sexual well-being and reproduction. Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKHS) compromises female sexual life and makes reproduction impossible. AIM: To assess the psychosexual effect of vaginal reconstruction using the laparoscopic Vecchietti technique in patients with MRKHS. METHODS: Forty-two patients with MRKHS who underwent laparoscopic Vecchietti vaginoplasty were included...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of MRI in the evaluation of both the new female anatomy and complications in male-to-female sex reassignment surgery (MtF-SRS). METHODS: 71 consecutive patients with MtF-SRS had 74 MRI [age range, 21-63 years; mean (±standard deviation) age, 36 ± 10 years; median age, 37 years]. In 47 patients, MRI was performed to rule out early post-operative complications after gender conversion (n = 40), vaginoplasty (n = 6) or remodelling of the labia majora (n = 1)...

The presence of cervicovaginal agenesis with unicornuate uterus is a very rare mullerian anomaly. Its true incidence is still unknown. The presence of functioning unicornuate uterus poses a great challenge for a gynecologist because a successful repair could restore normal menses and may preserve a patient's fertility. Hence, we report a case of 16-year-old unmarried female who presented with chief complaints of primary amenorrhea with cyclical lower abdominal pain. On clinical and radiological evaluation, she was diagnosed with complete cervicovaginal agenesis with right unicornuate uterus (hematometra and hematosalpinx)...

CONTEXT: Host of vaginoplasty techniques have been described. None has been successful in developing normal vagina. Laparoscopic peritoneal vaginoplasty (LPV) is performed in Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKHS) culminating in normal vagina. AIMS: This study aims to confirm normal development of neovagina by anatomical and functional parameters of histology, cytology, and ultrasonography (USG) in LPV. To identify peritoneal progenitor cell by OCT4/SOX2 markers...

Here we describe the procedure and outcomes of a multidisciplinary approach to vaginoplasty using autologous buccal mucosa fenestrated grafts in 2 patients with vaginal agenesis. This procedure resulted in anatomic success, with a functional neovagina with good vaginal length and caliber and satisfactory sexual function capacity and well-healed buccal mucosa. There were no complications, and the patients were satisfied with the surgical results. We conclude that the use of a single fenestrated graft of autologous buccal mucosa is a simple, effective procedure for the treatment of vaginal agenesis that results in an optimally functioning neovagina with respect to vaginal length, caliber, and sexual capacity...

BACKGROUND: The ideal vaginoplasty must be successful functionally as well as have a natural appearance, and also must retain its functionality and appearance over the long term. Conventional vaginoplasty techniques have functional limitations and are associated with recurrent complications, but rectosigmoid vaginoplasty is known to have a high satisfaction rate due to its functional similarity with the vagina. We conducted the present study to assess the usability of rectosigmoid vaginoplasty over the course of long-term follow-up...

Patients with recto vestibular fistula may have gynecological malformations that could be unnoticed at the initial examination. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the incidence of these malformations and propose a study method to help diagnose these malformations, avoiding unnecessary surgeries. We reviewed the records of patients treated with rectovaginal fistula (RVF) in the last 18 years and studied their gynecological malformations, time at diagnosis and treatment received. Of the 39 patients treated, 5 of them (13...

INTRODUCTION: A cornerstone of treating gender dysphoria for transgender women is gender reassignment surgery (GRS) encompassing vaginoplasty and clitoroplasty. The neoclitoris is harvested as a flap with a neurovascular pedicle from the proximal dorsal part of the glans penis. Few long-term follow-ups exist on postoperative sensation and patient-reported sexual functionality of the neoclitoris. AIM: To examine the sensitivity of the neoclitoris and its relation to orgasm and sexual function at least 1 year after GRS...
