BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulceration remains a major challenge is one of the most expensive and a leading cause of major and minor among patients with a diabetic foot ulcer. Hence the purpose of this review emphases on potential molecular markers involved in diabetic ulcer physiology, the efficacy of different types of dressing materials, therapy and newer therapeutic approach like nanoparticles for the of diabetic foot ulcer. METHODS: We conducted a systematic literature reviews search by using Pubmed and other web search...

Photolysis of nitric acid on the surface has been found recently to be greatly enhanced from that in the gas phase. Yet, photolysis of particulate nitrate (pNO3) associated with atmospheric aerosols is still relatively unknown. Here, aerosol filter samples were collected both near the ground surface and throughout the troposphere on board NSF/NACR C-130 aircraft. The photolysis rate constants of pNO3 were determined from these samples by directly monitoring the production rates of nitrous acid (HONO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) under UV light (> 290 nm) irradiation...

BACKGROUND: Most of the experience on fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair (F-EVAR) involves the custom-made Zenith® endograft (Cook). The fenestrated Anaconda® endograft (Vascutek) was introduced with the potential advantages of complete repositioning and lack of stent material on the main aortic body for more versatility. However, few data are available. Our objective was to assess its mid-term results in the treatment of complex aortic aneurysms. METHODS: Consecutive patients treated with the custom-made Fenestrated Anaconda® Endograft in France and the Principality of Monaco, from December 2010 to October 2015, were included...

Peat cores were collected from five bogs in the vicinity of open pit mines and upgraders of the Athabasca Bituminous Sands, and from a control site (Utikuma) which is 264 km SW. Frozen cores were sectioned into 1 cm slices, and trace metals determined in the ultraclean SWAMP lab using ICP-QMS. The uppermost sections of the cores were age-dated with (210)Pb using ultralow background gamma spectrometry, and selected plant macrofossils dated using (14)C. At each site, trace metal concentrations as well as enrichment factors (calculated relative to the corresponding M/Th ratio of the Upper Continental Crust) reveal maximum values 10 to 40 cm below the surface which shows that the zenith of atmospheric contamination occurred in the past...

Analytical formulas for the root-mean-square (rms) spatial width, the rms angular width, and the M2-factor of partially coherent standard Laguerre Gaussian beams (PC-SLGBs) and partially coherent elegant Laguerre Gaussian beams (PC-ELGBs) in inhomogeneous turbulent atmosphere have been derived. The propagation properties of PC-SLGBs and PC-ELGBs in inhomogeneous atmospheric turbulence are studied numerically and comparatively. It can be found that the propagation of laser beams in inhomogeneous turbulence is different from that in homogeneous turbulence...

Objective: To assess the accuracy of five different computed tomography (CT) scanners for the evaluation of the oropharynx morphology. Methods: An existing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data set was used to fabricate an anthropomorphic phantom of the upper airway volume that extended from the uvula to the epiglottis (oropharynx) with known dimensions (gold standard). This phantom was scanned using two multi-detector row computed tomography (MDCT) scanners (GE Discovery CT750 HD, Siemens Somatom Sensation) and three CBCT scanners (NewTom 5G, 3D Accuitomo 170, Vatech PaX Zenith 3D)...

BACKGROUND: Corticosteroids (CS) may benefit certain patients with erythromelalgia. OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to determine clinical predictors of corticosteroid-responsive erythromelalgia. METHODS: Patients with erythromelalgia who received CS were identified and stratified into corticosteroid nonresponders (NRs), partial corticosteroid responders (PSRs), complete corticosteroid responders (CSRs), and steroid responders (SRs = PSRs + CSRs)...

INTRODUCTION: Complete denture therapy is one such modality where science and art goes hand in hand. Selection of artificial teeth for completely edentulous patients is not easy in the absence of pre extraction records, because till date concrete guidelines do not exist. AIM: The purpose of this study was to determine if a correlation existed between the visible length of the iris and the length of the maxillary central incisor to potentially provide a guide for teeth selection...

M2-factor and root-mean-square (rms) angular width of partially coherent flat-topped (PCFT) beams propagating through inhomogeneous atmospheric turbulence are studied based on the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle and the Wigner distribution function (WDF). It is shown that the effect of turbulence on the PCFT beams can be neglected as the vertical height increases, which is different from the homogeneous turbulence. Analytical formulae of the M2-factor and rms angular width of PCFT beams have been given...

In situ fenestration of stent-grafts allows patients with life threatening aortic pathologies to be amenable to emergent "off the shelf indications for use" percutaneous treatments as a bail out technique. Three types of aortic stent-grafts were subjected to laser fenestration in a physiological saline solution followed by balloon angioplasty using 8, 10 or 12 mm in diameter noncompliant balloons. The morphology and the size of fenestrations were observed under optical and scanning electron microscopy. The damage to the fabrics was analyzed and quantified...

When the data sets that suggested record high UVI values at Mt Licancabur, and Laguna Blanca, Bolivia are reviewed in full, we find that the reported peak values are incorrect, probably due to instrumental problems. These affect the UVB, UVA and PAR channels at different times and different solar zenith angles, with distinct diurnal patterns in each case. The outliers are consistent with errors that would result from build-up of ice or snow on the surface of the entrance dome, combined with incomplete baffling of light within the integrating spheres that form the entrance optic of these instruments, but we cannot unequivocally attribute them to this cause...

Animals use rules to initiate behaviors. Such rules are often described as triggers that determine when behavior begins. However, although less explored, these selection rules are also an opportunity to establish sensorimotor constraints that influence how the behavior ends. These constraints may be particularly significant in influencing success in prey capture. Here we explore this in dragonfly prey interception. We found that in the moments leading up to takeoff, perched dragonflies employ a series of sensorimotor rules that determine the time of takeoff and increase the probability of successful capture...

INTRODUCTION: and Objectives: Implications of aortic neck dilatation following EVAR are unclear. Previous studies are limited to comparisons of individual, early-generation devices. We compared aortic neck dilatation among contemporary stent-grafts. METHODS: We reviewed pre- and post-op CTA for EVARs performed from 2008-2014. Images were analyzed using 3-D centerline reconstructions. Aortic neck diameter was measured in orthogonal planes at and 10 mm below the lowest renal artery...

The UV environment is a key boundary condition to abiogenesis. However, considerable uncertainty exists as to planetary conditions and hence surface UV at abiogenesis. Here, we present two-stream multilayer clear-sky calculations of the UV surface radiance on Earth at 3.9 Ga to constrain the UV surface fluence as a function of albedo, solar zenith angle (SZA), and atmospheric composition. Variation in albedo and latitude (through SZA) can affect maximum photoreaction rates by a factor of >10.4; for the same atmosphere, photoreactions can proceed an order of magnitude faster at the equator of a snowball Earth than at the poles of a warmer world...
