Human papillomavirus (HPV) proteins may elicit antibody responses in the process toward HPV-related malignancy. However, HPV seroepidemiology in noncervical HPV-related cancers remains poorly understood, particularly in populations with a high prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Using a glutathione S-transferase-based multiplex serology assay, antibodies against E6, E7 and L1 proteins of HPV16 and HPV18 were measured in sera of 535 cases of noncervical HPV-related cancers (anal (n = 104), vulval (n = 211), vaginal (n = 49), penile (n = 37) and oropharyngeal (n = 134)) and 6651 non-infection-related cancer controls, from the Johannesburg Cancer Study that recruited Black South African with newly diagnosed cancer between 1995 and 2016...

Metastasis to the penis from RCC or any other primary cancer site is unusual; when it does occur, it often involves multiple organs. A 75-year-old man presented with penile pain and swelling. Three months earlier, he had open radical nephrectomy with thrombectomy and was diagnosed with clear-cell RCC with tumor thrombosis in the IVC. The follow-up imaging indicated metastasis in the penis, prompting a total penectomy due to worsening pain. The excised mass displayed features consistent with metastatic RCC. This case underscores the need to consider rare metastatic sites, such as metastasis of RCC to the penis, in RCC patients...

PURPOSE: The pathophysiology of penis extends to erectile dysfunction (ED) to conditions including sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and cancer. To date, there has been little research evaluating vascular drainage from the penis. We aimed to evaluate penile blood flow in vivo and analyze its possible relationship with the lymphatic maker. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We established an in vivo system designed to assess the dynamic blood outflow from the corpus cavernosum (CC) by dye injection...

We present a case of a 70-year-old gentleman who was referred to our tertiary 2-week-wait penile cancer clinic with a penile mass that was ulcerated, painful and discharging. This was suspicious for penile cancer and a radical circumcision was performed to remove the diseased foreskin en bloc with the lesion that was arising from the inner foreskin. Histopathology did not reveal cancer; however, we identified spirochaetes in keeping with syphilis. This was confirmed on serology. The patient was referred to the genitourinary medicine team and treated with antibiotics...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Nodal metastasis is a major survival and prognostic factor in penile cancer (PeCa). Thus, accurate staging, prognosis, and treatment selection require adequate inguinal lymphadenectomy (ILND). ILND surgery should balance oncologic rigor with morbidity and postoperative complications. Our aim was to compare the feasibility and safety of open ILND (OILND) and videoendoscopic ILND (VEILND) in patients with PeCa. METHODS: We conducted a single-center randomized trial with a within-patient design between October 2019 and April 2023...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and erectile dysfunction (ED) are well established diagnoses within Men's Health, often more specifically within the prostate cancer survivorship cohort. Taken individually, well defined treatment algorithms exist with which many surgeons are comfortable; however, treatment of both in a single setting or staged fashion introduces complexity. Emerging treatment options also exist, and there is immature or minimal data when these are combined with inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) insertion, radiation history, and/or variable degrees of incontinence...

Metastatic penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC) has only a 50% response rate to first-line combination chemotherapies and there are currently no targeted-therapy approaches. Therefore, we have an urgent need in advanced-PSCC treatment to find novel therapies. Approximately half of all PSCC cases are positive for high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV). Our objective was to generate HPV-positive (HPV+) and HPV-negative (HPV-) patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models and to determine the biological differences between HPV+ and HPV- disease...

Penile cancer, while relatively rare compared to other male malignancies, has seen an increased global incidence, with 36,068 new cases reported in 2020. This condition primarily affects regions with low human development indexes, notably India, China and Brazil. The mainstay of treatment is often partial or total penectomy, which has a profound impact on patients' emotional and social lives. Due to limited options for early diagnosis, non-surgical treatments, restricted healthcare funding and the negative consequences of mutilating surgeries, penile cancer is often considered a neglected disease...
