BACKGROUND: This study assessed the effect of corticotomy with Er: YAG (erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) laser on the rate of canine retraction. METHODS: This randomized split-mouth controlled clinical trial was conducted on 12 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with extraction of maxillary first premolars. Following initial leveling and alignment, an alginate impression was made from the maxillary arch, and Er: YAG laser corticotomy was performed in one of the maxillary quadrants of each patient...

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of body temperature (37 °C) on the cyclic fatigue resistance of three endodontic single-file systems using a new testing setup. One Shape® new generation (OS), WaveOne™ (WO) and WaveOne® GOLD (WOG), which are made from different NiTi alloys and operated in different motions (rotation/reciprocation), were evaluated. The study design included four groups. Each group comprised 30 files, 10 files of each of the three file systems, tested at 20 ± 2 °C (group 1 and 3) and at 37 ± 1 °C (group 2 and 4)...

To investigate the effectiveness of AcceleDent Aura vibrating device on the rate of canine retraction. Thirty-two patients requiring extraction of upper first premolars and canine retraction were randomly allocated with a 1:1 ratio into either no-appliance group or the AcceleDent Aura appliance group. Canine retraction was done applying 150gm of retraction force using NiTi coil springs on 16 × 22 stainless steel archwires. The duration of the study was 4 months. Models were collected and digitized directly after extraction of upper first premolars and at monthly intervals during canine retraction for recording the monthly as well as the total distance moved by the canine...

INTRODUCTION: In an effort to enhance the quality of mechanized endodontic instruments, various thermal treatment methods and design modifications have been suggested. However, upon evaluation, these endodontic instruments may exhibit microscopic irregularities. The objective of this in vitro study was to analyze the cutting capacity, surface finish, and mechanical properties of NiTi 25/.04 Rotate (VDW GmbH, Munich, Germany) and Logic 2 (Easy Equipamentos Odontológicos, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil) rotary instruments...

Background This study aims to analyze the phase transformation behavior and evaluate the effect of different temperatures on the fracture strength of files. Methodology A total of 108 files were used, and cyclic fatigue tests were performed on HyFlex EDM, VDW.ROTATE, and TruNatomy at three different temperatures (+4°C, +35°C, and +60°C) The time to fracture of files was measured, and the number of cycles was calculated. In addition, the fractured fragment lengths were measured. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the data that were not normally distributed according to groups...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of different file access angles and root canal curvature's location on the fatigue failure of One Curve (OC) and E3 Azure (EZ) NiTi files using a dynamic model at simulated body temperature. METHODS: Eighty new instruments with similar tip sizes and taper (#25/0.06) from two NiTi rotary systems, One Curve and E3 Azure, were tested at simulated body temperatures (37°C) using a custom-made dynamic cyclic fatigue device. Instruments were divided into four subgroups according to the location of root canal curvature (a coronal curve 5 mm from the root canal orifice and an apical curve 10 mm from the root canal orifice) and the angle of file access (0° or 30°)...

We aimed to evaluate the screw-in force, torque generation, and performance of three nickel-titanium (NiTi) glide-path files with different rotational kinetics. ProTaper Ultimate Slider (PULS) and HyFlex EDM Glide-path (HEDG) files were used for canal shaping with constant rotation (CON) or the alternative rotation technique (ART). In the ART mode, the NiTi file was periodically rotated at a speed of 1.5 times faster than that in the CON mode. WaveOne Gold Glider was used with reciprocating motion (WOGG_RCP)...

Elastocaloric cooling has emerged as an eco-friendly technology capable of eliminating greenhouse-gas refrigerants. However, its development is limited by the large driving force and low efficiency in uniaxial loading modes. Here, we present a low-force and energy-efficient elastocaloric air cooling approach based on coil-bending of NiTi ribbons/wires. Our air cooler achieves continuous cold outlet air with a temperature drop of 10.6 K and a specific cooling power of 2.5 W g-1 at a low specific driving force of 26 N g-1 ...
