BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with a major impact on the quality of life of affected individuals. Topical therapy has an important role in the treatment of psoriasis. Poor treatment outcomes from topical therapy regimens likely result from poor adherence and ineffective use of medication. METHODS: A cost-minimization analysis was performed with the purpose of assessing the use of a gel containing calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate (Dovobet(®) gel) versus the ointment formulation (Dovobet ointment) in the treatment of psoriasis...

OBJECTIVE: To establish the efficacy and safety of once daily treatment of Daivobet®/Dovobet® gel in patients with psoriasis vulgaris, relative to tacalcitol ointment and the gel vehicle alone. METHODS: 458 patients with at least moderately severe disease were randomized in 3 treatment arms for an 8-week period. Treatment was investigator blinded, and treatment success was defined as patients with an Investigator's Global Assessment of 'clear' or 'almost clear' at week 8...

The two-compound ointment (Taclonex/Daivobet/Dovobet ointment) combining calcipotriene 50 microg/g and betamethasone 0.5 mg/g (as dipropionate) is very effective in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. There is a possibility that hypothalamo-pituitary-axis (HPA) suppression may occur if the potent corticosteroid component is absorbed to a sufficient extent. The effect of the two-compound ointment on HPA axis function was assessed in two studies. Study 1 was a four-week, double-blind study which compared the effects of the two-compound ointment with betamethasone 0...

Daivobet (Dovobet) is a fixed combination ointment of calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate. The real-life clinical use of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate treatment was assessed in this multi-centre, single-group, non-interventional study. Patients with psoriasis vulgaris who had a recent calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate prescription prior to the study start evaluated their satisfaction with the treatment after a 4-week course and after repeated courses for up to 6 months. Of the 1224 patients enrolled, 81...

Psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases. The mainstay of treatment for the vast majority of patients is topical therapy. A rising first-line treatment modality for psoriasis vulgaris is the two-compound ointment containing calcipotriol 50 mug/g plus betamethasone dipropionate 0.5 mg/g (Dovobet((R)), Daivobet((R)), Taclonex((R))), which combines a vitamin D analog and a corticosteroid. This innovative formulation preserves the activity and bioavailability of the two components and many clinical studies have demonstrated that it has a greater efficacy, tolerability, and a rapid onset of action compared with its individual ingredients or tacalcitol...

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis vulgaris requires lifelong treatment associated with considerable health cost. Studies showed that a combination of a steroid and a vitamin D(3) analogue is more effective than both compounds in monotherapy. OBJECTIVE: To determine the cost-effectiveness of a fix calcipotriol/betamethasone combination (Daivobet/Dovobet/Taclonex) compared to a morning/evening non-fix calcipotriol/betamethasone combination in psoriasis treatment. METHODS: A Markov model (discrete-time stochastic process based on transitions between health states) with 2 treatment arms (Daivobet/Dovobet/Taclonex vs...

OBJECTIVES: To determine the cost-effectiveness of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate (Dovobet) in the initial treatment of moderate severity plaque psoriasis vulgaris in Scotland. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: An economic model was developed to simulate the costs and benefits of the most commonly used topicals in the management of plaque psoriasis. This was informed by an indirect unadjusted comparison of the effectiveness data to determine the relative efficacy of commonly used topicals...

Psoriasis is a common skin disease affecting 1%-3% of the world's population with significant impacts on quality of life. There is a great need for therapies that are efficacious and safe, not only for the short-term, but also for long-term management. Dovobet/ Daivobet/ Taclonex is a product combining two molecules, calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate, that may offer psoriatic patients with an option for maintenance therapy. The efficacy and safety of this combined formulation when used over a 4-week period is well documented...

BACKGROUND: The calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate two-compound product is safe and effective in the short-term treatment of psoriasis. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to investigate the safety of two treatment regimens involving use of the two-compound product over 52 weeks. The efficacy results are presented here. METHODS: Six hundred and thirty-four patients were randomised double-blind to treatment (once daily, when required) with either: 52 weeks of two-compound product (two-compound group), 52 weeks of alternating 4-week periods of two-compound product and calcipotriol (alternating group), or 4 weeks of two-compound product followed by 48 weeks of calcipotriol (calcipotriol group)...

BACKGROUND: The US National Psoriasis Foundation recently recommended that PASI 50 and PASI 75 response rates be used in clinical trials to enable comparisons across studies of different psoriasis therapies. To date, these response rates have not been reported for the two-compound ointment containing calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate (Daivobet/Dovobet; LEO Pharma, Ballerup, Denmark). Further, in order to compare Daivobet with other therapeutics recently presented to the European regulatory authorities and the FDA, comparison with the biologicals, efalizumab, etanercept and alefacept, were also made...

Dovobet is a compounded combination of calcipotriol [also calcipotriene] and betamethasone diproprionate, and is used for psoriasis vulgaris once daily. For this photo case presentation, Dovobet was used once daily in combination with UVB phototherapy 3 times a week. Light therapy was increased by 10% increments at each visit or as tolerated by the patient. Results show the combination of light therapy plus Dovobet may be an effective and convenient option in the treatment of psoriasis.

BACKGROUND: Localized chronic plaque psoriasis, resistant to local therapy, may be very hard to treat. The treatment of these lesions with a pulsed dye laser (PDL) has been described before, but a comparative study between the PDL and a potent topical treatment has never been performed. OBJECTIVES: To compare the efficacy of the PDL in the treatment of localized, recalcitrant plaque psoriasis with a potent topical therapy, using calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate (Dovobet) as an active comparator...

The topical treatment of psoriasis benefits from the alternate use of dermocorticosteroids and vitamin D3 analogues. A new galenic formulation allows to combine them in a single application. Dovobet (LEO Pharma) ointment is the association of calcipotriol 50 microg/g with betamethasone dipoprionate 0.5 mg/g. This formulation boosts the therapeutic activity of calcipotriol. It also decreases the irritative inflammatory reaction due to calcipotriol without increasing the atrophogenic risk of the dermocorticoid...

The proportion of elderly patients with psoriasis vulgaris is set to increase in the future due to an ageing population. A total of 1534 patients, including 357 aged > or = 60 years, with psoriasis vulgaris received the two-compound ointment once-daily in four randomised, double-blind, studies. The two-compound product containing calcipotriol 50 microg/g plus betamethasone dipropionate 0.5 mg/g (Dovobet, Daivobet) [referred to here as calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate], is a topical treatment for psoriasis vulgaris, combining a vitamin D analog and a corticosteroid. For most adult patients with psoriasis vulgaris on the trunk and limbs, up to 4 weeks of therapy with calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate provides an effective and well tolerated treatment. In clinical trials, patients with a mean baseline psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) of 9...
