BACKGROUND: Caesarean section (CS) is widely perceived as protective against obstetric brachial plexus injury (BPI), but few studies acknowledge the factors associated with such injury. The objectives of this study were therefore to aggregate cases of BPI after CS, and to illuminate risk factors for BPI. METHODS: Pubmed Central, EMBASE and MEDLINE databases were searched using free text: ("brachial plexus injury" or "brachial plexus injuries" or "brachial plexus palsy" or "brachial plexus palsies" or "Erb's palsy" or "Erb's palsies" or "brachial plexus birth injury" or "brachial plexus birth palsy") and ("caesarean" or "cesarean" or "Zavanelli" or "cesarian" or "caesarian" or "shoulder dystocia")...

BACKGROUND: Augmentation cystoplasty, first described by Mikulicz in 1899 involves segments of bowel, stomach or mega-ureter to increase bladder capacity in those with inadequate bladder function or lack of detrusor compliance. The most widely used bowel segment is a detubularised patch of ileum. When ileum is not suitable for augmentation, sigmoid colon is the alternative. However, only eight pregnancies after sigmoidocystoplasty have been reported without detail and clinicians may be uncertain about the effects of sigmoidocystoplasty on reproductive health and pregnancy...

Bacterial infections, even without any perinatal risk factors, are common in newborns, especially in preterm neonates. The aim of this study was to evaluate possible impairment of neutrophil chemotaxis in term and preterm neonates compared with adults as well as neonates with different modes of delivery and anaesthesia. We analysed the expression of the adhesion molecule L-Selectin as well as shape change, spontaneous and N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLP)-induced transmigration of neutrophils in a flow cytometric assay of chemotaxis after spontaneous delivery with Cesarian Section (CS) under spinal anaesthesia (mepivacaine, sufentanil), epidural anaesthesia (ropivacaine or bupivacaine, sufentanil) or general anaesthesia (ketamine, thiopental, succinylcholine)...

OBJECTIVE: To present our clinical experience with a case of myomectomy of very big myoma during the second trimestr of pregnancy and to analyse current articles with this topics. Two myomectomies in one pregnancy (in the second trimestr and during the cesarian section) are presented. DESIGN: Review article, case report. RESULTS: A case report of 36-years-old nulliparous woman with 2 big fibroids in pregnancy is presented. OBJECTIVE: The relevance of endosalpingiosis as a cause of chronic pelvic pain is controversial. To examine the clinical presentation of endosalpingiosis, the files of the Institute of Pathology at the University of Münster for the years 1994-1999 were screened by keyword search for the diagnosis of endosalpingiosis and the patient files were reviewed. PATIENTS: Thirteen patients with the diagnosis endosalpingiosis treated at our institution were identified within the past 6 years...

In this study, the authors raise the question of the morbidity related to Asherman's syndrome and demonstrate that hysterectomy is the best method for diagnosis and treatment. In a group of 15 patients, secondary sterility and secondary amenorrhea were the main reasons for consultation, 11 patients underwent surgical hysteroscopy and the other fourteen received conventional treatment. The main etiological factors identified were curettage and cesarian section. A normal cavity was successfully reconstructed in 12 cases (80%) after between one and three treatments...

The feasibility and efficacy of laparoscopic CO2 laser and Nd:YAG non-contact laser application for the treatment of polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) were evaluated in 30 patients (19 patients treated with the CO2 laser, and 11 with the Nd:YAG laser). The criteria for inclusion of PCOD in our study were: amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea with chronic anovulation, failure to ovulate in response to clomide or human menopausal gonadotropin, elevated serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) or an elevated LH/follicle-stimulating hormone ratio, exaggerated LH response to gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH), elevated serum androgen levels, and ultrasonographic features of polycystic ovaries...
