INTRODUCTION: Lumbar pain is one of the main reasons for medical consultation, causing the disruption of daily routines due to its disabling nature, thus resulting in social and personal damage. Among the complementary treatments, ozonotherapy offers analgesia to most patients, with reports of complications. However, great questions about its clinical effectiveness have not been answered yet, and there have been reports of serious complications. OBJECTIVE: To describe the use of ozonotherapy in the treatment of lumbar pain, focusing on its favorable and unfavorable effects, and its analog profile...

INTRODUCTION: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease of unknown aetiology. No curative therapy exists, thus management includes controlling of symptoms and prevention of complications. Ozonotherapy has multiple beneficial therapeutic effects which can translate into improving prognostic factors for SSc. AIM: To evaluate the effect of ozone on selected factors of inflammation: serum concentration of the soluble receptor of interleukin-2 (IL-2 sR), neopterin as well as the peripheral blood smear in patients with SSc...

Objective. Treatment of scleroderma is challenging and limited. The aim of our study was to evaluate the usefulness of thermography in assessment of the clinical condition (joints movability and skin thickness) in clinically advanced patients with systemic sclerosis before and after ozone therapy. Method. The study included 42 patients aged 32 to 73 years with advanced systemic sclerosis hospitalized in the university clinic between 2003 and 2006. Thermography and clinical examinations were conducted at baseline and after two series of bath in water with ozone...

BACKGROUND: In-stent restenosis and poor re-endothelization usually follow percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, even using drug-eluting stents, due to inflammation and oxidative stress. Medical ozone has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has not been evaluated in this context. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether ozonotherapy might reduce restenosis following bare metal stents implantation in relation to the redoxin system in pigs. METHODS: Twelve male Landrace pigs (51±9kg) underwent percutaneous transluminal circumflex coronary arteries bare metal stent implantation under heparine infusion and fluoroscopical guidance, using standard techniques...

Efficacy of the ozonotherapy application as an important component of complex treatment in purulent cholangitis (PCH) was studied. In choledocholithiasis (without infectioning of bile) ozonotherapy may be prescribed as additional component at complex treatment. In PCH ozonotherapy application have promoted the improvement of laboratory indices in 6.6 times, comparing with such, occurring after basic therapy.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the combined treatment of the patients suffering from bacterial vaginosis using various methods of ozone therapy. The comprehensive clinical and laboratory examination and treatment involved 102 patients of the child-bearing age divided into 3 groups, matched for the age and the main clinical manifestations of the disease. All the patients comprising group IlIl received basic therapy alone while the treatment of the patients of group I consisted of local ozone therapy and that of the patients of group 11 of the combination of local and general ozone therapy...

In 38 patients (group of comparison) a complex routine therapy was conducted, in 36 (the main group)--along with routine complex measures of treatment a local and systemic ozonotherapy, using ozonized perftoran (OP) and glutoxim (for immunocorrection), were applied. The patients severity state was estimated in accordance to the Mahnheim's peritoneal index. In all the patients while hospitalization there were revealed changes in T--and B--links of immunity, in phagocytosis and the cytokins profile, significant of which have depended upon the EP severity...

The present paper reports the data on rehabilitation of women presenting with combined pathology: dyscirculatory encephalopathy and climacteric syndrome. It is shown that the introduction of ozonotherapy and klimadynon, a herbal medicine possessed of the estrogen-like action, into combined rehabilitative treatment ensures the significant improvement of the parameters of interest, such as climacteric symptoms, short-term memory, lipid profile, endothelial function, cerebral circulation, and quality of life.

Bisphosphonates (BPs) are used intravenously to treat cancer-related conditions for the prevention of pathological fractures. Osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) is a rare complication reported in 4-15% of patients. We studied, retrospectively, 55 patients with multiple myeloma or Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia followed up from different haematological departments who developed BRONJ. All patients were treated with BPs for bone lesions and/or fractures. The most common trigger for BRONJ was dental alveolar surgery...

Methods of clinical application of gaseous ozone and ozonated solutions are described with special reference to the treatment of patients with acute and chronic suppurative middle ear diseases. Results of otoscopy, microbiological and cytological studies confirm therapeutic efficiency of the above techniques as accelerating recovery of patients with this pathology. It is recommended to include ozonotherapy as an additional method in the combined treatment of acute and chronic suppurative otitis media.

Efficacy of the standard therapy and treatment including intravenous infusion of ozonized physiological solution was studied in 58 and 60 patients, respectively. While the conventional therapy reduces endogenous intoxication, intensity of lipid peroxidation, ozonotherapy produces a prompt and effective decrease in pathological activity of lipid peroxidation, regulates a dynamic balance between pro- and antioxidant systems of the human body and, finally, reduces endotoxicosis severity in diabetic patients...
