This work explores the influence of a pre-engineered notch on the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) parameters in NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) during tensile tests. The test data showed that the EMR signal fluctuated between oscillatory and exponential, signifying that the specimen's viscosity damping coefficient changes during strain hardening. The EMR parameters, maximum EMR amplitude, and average EMR energy release rate remained constant initially but rose sharply with the plastic zone radius with progressive loading...

The microstructures and mechanical properties of equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloys (HEAs) treated with various processing parameters of laser surface heat treatment are studied in this paper. The typical inverse gradient-grained structure, which is composed of a hard central layer and a soft surface layer, can be obtained by laser surface heat treatment. A much narrower gradient layer leads to the highest yield strength by sacrificing ductility when the surface temperature of the laser-irradiated region remains at ~850 °C, whereas the fully recrystallized microstructure, which exists from the top surface layer to the ~1...

SiC-fiber-reinforced Al-Mg matrix composites with different mass fractions of Mg were fabricated by combining colloidal dispersion with a squeeze melt infiltration process. The microstructure, mechanical and damping properties, and the corresponding mechanisms were investigated. Microstructure analyses found that SiCf /Al-Mg composites presented a homogeneous distribution of SiC fibers, and the relative density was higher than 97% when the mass fraction of Mg was less than 20%; the fiber-matrix interface bonded well, and no obvious reaction occurred at the interface...

The flow behaviour of AA2060 Al alloy under warm/hot deformation conditions is complicated because of its dependency on strain rates (ε˙), strain (ε), and deformation modes. Thus, it is crucial to reveal and predict the flow behaviours of this alloy at a wide range of temperatures (T) and ε˙ using different constitutive models. Firstly, the isothermal tensile tests were carried out via a Gleeble-3800 thermomechanical simulator at a T range of 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 °C and ε˙ range of 0...

The harsh service environment of aeroengine hot-end components requires superalloys possessing excellent antioxidant properties. This study investigated the effect of pre-strain on the oxidation behavior of polycrystalline Ni3 Al-based superalloys. The growth behaviors of oxidation products were analyzed by scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The results indicated that the 5% pre-strained alloys exhibited lower mass gain, shallower oxidation depth and more compact oxide film structures compared to the original alloy...

The effect of hydrogen content on the deformation and fracture behavior of 27Cr-4Mo-2Ni super ferritic stainless steel (SFSS) was investigated in this study. It was shown that the plasticity and yield strength of SFSS were very susceptible to hydrogen content. The introduction of hydrogen led to a significant decrease in elongation and a concurrent increase in yield strength. Nevertheless, a critical threshold was identified in the elongation reduction, after which the elongation remained approximately constant even with more hydrogen introduced, while the yield strength exhibited a monotonic increase with increasing hydrogen content within the experimental range, attributed to the pinning effect of the hydrogen Cottrell atmosphere on dislocations...

Hot compression tests were conducted within a temperature range of 370 °C to 490 °C and a strain rate of 0.001 s-1 to 10 s-1 . We established the Arrhenius constitutive equation with Zener-Hollomon parameters and processing maps and discussed the microstructural evolution during hot deformation. Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) presents varying degrees of femoral head dislocation, with severe cases leading to the formation of a new articular surface on the external side of the iliac bone-the neoacetabulum. Despite conventional understanding suggesting otherwise, a tissue resembling hyaline cartilage is found in the neoacetabulum and acetabulum of Crowe III and IV patients, indicating a potential for hyaline cartilage development without mechanical pressure. To test this theory, acetabular and femoral head cartilage obtained from patients with DDH was stained with hematoxylin-eosin and toluidine blue...

Post mortem hyoid bone fracture findings may be attributable to various factors, including both the onset of acute mechanical asphyxia as it happens in manual strangulation and in charred corpses. In forensic practice, the discovery of corpses burned after death to hide their real cause of death is not uncommon: in these cases, the diagnostic challenge is even greater, as the action of flames is capable of both masking previously generated lesions and/or generating new ones, as occurs for hyoid bone fractures...

This is a monocentric descriptive epidemiological study on the clinical and radiological presentation of a consecutive series of water polo players from January 2002 to September 2022. BACKGROUND: Complex elbow fracture dislocations, dislocation with fracture of one or several surrounding bony stabilizers, are difficult to manage and associated with poor outcomes. While many studies have explored treatment strategies but a lack of standardization of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) makes cross-study comparison difficult. Traditional approaches utilizing hermetically sealed, rigid electronics and detached electrodes face challenges in power supply, encapsulation, channel count, dispersed application location, and modality. Employing thin-film, wirelessly powered devices is promising to expand capabilities. Devices that forego bulky power supplies, favoring a configuration where electronics are integrated directly onto thin films, reduce displacement volumes for seamless, fully implantable interfaces with high energy availability and soft mechanics to conform to the neuronal target...

InAs quantum wells (QWs) are promising material systems due to their small effective mass, narrow bandgap, strong spin-orbit coupling, large g-factor, and transparent interface to superconductors. Therefore, they are promising candidates for the implementation of topological superconducting states. Despite this potential, the growth of InAs QWs with high crystal quality and well-controlled morphology remains challenging. Adding an overshoot layer at the end of the metamorphic buffer layer, i.e., a layer with a slightly larger lattice constant than the active region of the device, helps to overcome the residual strain and provides optimally relaxed lattice parameters for the QW...

The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) serves as a crucial stabilizer, preventing lateral dislocation of the patella. Surgery is usually advised after a second dislocation, with MPFL reconstruction being a common procedure. The primary objective of rehabilitation post-surgery is not just to relieve pain and restore range of motion (ROM), but also to combine proprioceptive neuromuscular training to help patients return to their prior functional level. Agility training is a crucial component in accomplishing this goal...

Periacetabular defects following tumor resection present formidable challenges in reconstruction and continue to pose clinical difficulties. Historically, treatment approaches leaned towards hindquarter amputation; however, due to associated morbidities and functional limitations, limb-sparing procedures gained prominence in the 1980s. Nail-patella syndrome, also known as Fong disease, is an uncommon autosomal dominant disorder characterized by a distinctive set of features, including fingernail abnormalities, hypoplastic patellae, radial head dislocation, and iliac horns. This condition often leads to patellar subluxation or dislocation, resulting in knee instability and pain. While existing literature predominantly focuses on the clinical and radiological aspects of nail-patella syndrome-related knee manifestations, only a limited number of articles delve into a meticulous approach to the condition with a comprehensive strategy for diagnosis...
