The group of chondrodysplasia with multiple dislocations includes several entities, characterized by short stature, dislocation of large joints, hand and/or vertebral anomalies. Other features, such as epiphyseal or metaphyseal changes, cleft palate, intellectual disability are also often part of the phenotype. In addition, several conditions with overlapping features are related to this group and broaden the spectrum. The majority of these disorders have been linked to pathogenic variants in genes encoding proteins implicated in the synthesis or sulfation of proteoglycans (PG)...

PURPOSE: Total hip arthroplasty could fail due to many factors and one of the most common is the aseptic loosening. In order to achieve an effective osseointegration and reduce risk of lossening, the use of cemented implant, contact porous bearing surface and organic coating were developed. Aim of this study was to evaluate clinical and radiological mid-term outcomes of a porous titanium alloy/hydroxyapatite double coating manufactured cementless femoral stem applied with "plasma spray" technique and to demonstrate the possibility to use this stem in different types of femoral canals...

We describe a case of a man aged 41 years who presented with a history of generalised headaches for 1 week and an acute episode of tonic-clonic seizures. He had no history of medical illness, was non-smoker, with an extensive family history of haematological disorders. Initial CT brain with contrast did not show any abnormalities in brain parenchyma. X-ray and CT right shoulder showed shoulder dislocation secondary to trauma associated with seizure prior to hospital admission. Subsequently, MRA and MRV brain was arranged, which revealed extensive expansible occlusive filling defect dominating the middle of superior sagittal sinus with left frontal cortical and subcortical acute oedema...

In this paper we introduce Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) for designing the tibial part of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) by exploiting the shape-memory and pseudo-elasticity property of the SMA (e.g. NiTi). This would eliminate the drawbacks of the state-of-the art PMMA based knee-spacer including fracture, sustainability, dislocation, tilting, translation and subluxation for tackling the Osteoarthritis especially for the aged people of 45-plus or the athletes. In this paper a Computer Aided Design (CAD) model using SolidWorks for the knee-spacer is presented based on the proposed SMA adopting the state-of-the art industry-standard geometry that is used in the PMMA based spacer design...

In Total Hip Replacement (THR), inaccurate measurement of Anterior Pelvic Plane (APP), which is usually used as a reference plane, will lead to malposition of the acetabular prosthesis. As a result, the risk of impingement, dislocation and wear will increase and the safe range of motion will be limited. In order to acquire the accurate pose of APP, a measurement system is designed in this paper, which includes two parts: one is used to estimate the initial pose of APP and the other is used to trail dynamic motion of APP...

A low dislocation diamond is obtained by homoepitaxial chemical vapor deposition on a standard moderate quality substrate hollowed out by a large square hole. Dislocations are found to propagate vertically and horizontally from the substrate and to terminate at the top surface or at the sides of the hole, thus leaving the central part with a strongly reduced dislocation density.

PURPOSE: A reduction in femoral offset may decrease muscle tension and lead to spacer dislocations even though proximal femur, musculature and acetabulum remain intact. In this study, we aimed to determine whether postoperative lateral femoral offset (LFO) and modified vertical femoral offset (MVFO) values affect the risk of dislocation of a hip spacer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We measured LFO and MVFO in properly centred, postoperative, anteroposterior radiographs of the pelvis in 66 patients (71 spacers)...

Combinations of high strength and ductility are hard to attain in metals. Exceptions include materials exhibiting twinning-induced plasticity. To understand how the strength-ductility trade-off can be defeated, we apply in situ, and aberration-corrected scanning, transmission electron microscopy to examine deformation mechanisms in the medium-entropy alloy CrCoNi that exhibits one of the highest combinations of strength, ductility and toughness on record. Ab initio modelling suggests that it has negative stacking-fault energy at 0K and high propensity for twinning...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Shoulder instability, a common issue among athletes who engage in contact sports, may lead to recurrent subluxations, or partial dislocations of the shoulder. Young athletic patients generally respond poorly to the nonsurgical treatments for shoulder instability that are commonly utilized. The purpose of this case report is to describe the effects of the treatment guided by the Mulligan Concept (MC) coupled with reflex neuromuscular stabilization (RNS) also known as reactive neuromuscular training (RNT), on an adolescent football player with glenohumeral joint (GHJ) instability who sustained a traumatic anterior subluxation...

Distal interphalangeal joint dislocations are only rarely complex and irreducible. We present a case and illustrate our approach to management of this problem. Open reduction is necessary, and preferred approach is volar. It is imperative to identify the injured soft tissue and repair them as is feasible.

The incidence of primary total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) in young patients is increasing. The indications for revision surgery are also rising. Here, we report a rare case of pseudotumor detected in a patient 16 years after TEA. Intraoperative findings revealed a necrotic mass characterized by a conspicuous metallosis in the soft tissues around the prosthesis, which caused ulnar nerve dislocation. Due to this anatomical change, a lesion of the nerve was accidentally produced during revision surgery. The case report emphasizes that the indications for elbow replacement, as well as the patient education about the permanent physical limitations, should be carefully considered...

BACKGROUND: and Purpose: Several studies have looked for an association between radiological findings and neurological outcome after cervical trauma. In the current literature, there is a paucity of evidence proving the prognostic role of soft tissue damage or bony integrity. Our objective is to determine radiological findings related to neurological prognosis in patients after incomplete acute traumatic cervical spinal cord injury, regardless of initial neurological exam. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients with acute traumatic cervical Spinal Cord Injury who had an MRI performed within the first 96 hours...

Lumbar total disc replacement (TDR) is an alternative to interbody fusion for the treatment of symptomatic degenerative disc disease. Traditionally, lumbar TDR is performed via an anterior retroperitoneal approach with regional risks of vascular and visceral injury. The direct lateral retroperitoneal, transpsoas approach avoids mobilisation of the great vessels and preserves the anterior longitudinal ligament, thereby maintaining physiological limits on motion. This study aimed to (i) report one site's early experience with lateral lumbar TDR and (ii) provide case examples illustrating the utility, complications and revision strategies of the XL-TDR device...
