BACKGROUND: Patients with acute myeloid leukaemia have high rates of relapse, especially if they are unable to complete standard consolidation strategies or allogeneic haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT). The phase 3 QUAZAR AML-001 study showed an overall survival benefit with oral azacitidine maintenance. The BCL2 inhibitor venetoclax is highly active in acute myeloid leukaemia and synergistic with azacitidine. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of low dose azacitidine plus venetoclax as maintenance therapy in acute myeloid leukaemia...

With the rapidly evolving field of image-guided tumor ablation, there is an increasing demand and need for tools to optimize treatment success. Known factors affecting the success of (non-)thermal liver ablation procedures are the ability to optimize tumor and surrounding critical structure visualization, ablation applicator targeting, and ablation zone confirmation. A recent study showed superior local tumor progression-free survival and local control outcomes when using transcatheter computed tomography hepatic angiography (CTHA) guidance in percutaneous liver ablation procedures...

Background : Our aim was to examine the frequency and prescription pattern of breakthrough (BTO) and scheduled (SCH) opioids and their ratio (BTO/SCH ratio) of use, prior to and after referral to an inpatient supportive care consult (SCC) for cancer pain management (CPM). Methods and Materials : Patients admitted at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and referred to a SCC were retrospectively reviewed. Cancer patients receiving SCH and BTO opioids for ≥24 h were eligible for inclusion. Patient demographics and clinical characteristics, including the type and route of SCH and BTO opioids, daily opioid doses (MEDDs) of SCH and BTO, and BTO/SCH ratios were reviewed in patients seen prior to a SCC (pre-SCC) and during a SCC...

Mesothelial/monocytic incidental cardiac excrescence (MICE) is a rare benign lesion composed of monocytes and mesothelial cells that is most often encountered during cardiothoracic surgery. We describe a case in a 71-year-old man with known aortic valve stenosis who presented with gradual onset dyspnea over a few weeks, made worse with minimal exertion. A transesophageal echocardiogram revealed severe aortic stenosis and mild pericardial effusion. The patient underwent aortic valve replacement, coronary artery bypass, and amputation of the left atrial appendage...

We evaluated longitudinal patient-reported outcomes (PROs) to analyze the correlations between symptoms and QOL and their changing characteristics during postoperative rehabilitation. The effects of technology-supported behavior change interventions for reducing sodium intake on health outcomes in adults are inconclusive. Effective intervention characteristics associated with sodium reduction have yet to be identified. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, searching randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between January 2000 and April 2023 across 5 databases (PROSPERO: CRD42022357905). Meta-analyses using random-effects models were performed on 24-h urinary sodium (24HUNa), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP)...

PURPOSE: Develop and deploy a robust discovery platform that encompasses heterogeneity, clinical annotation, and molecular characterization and overcomes the limited availability of prostate cancer (PCa) models. This initiative builds on the rich MD Anderson (MDA) PCa patient-derived xenograft (PDX) resource to complement existing publicly available databases by addressing gaps in clinically annotated models reflecting the heterogeneity of potentially lethal and lethal PCa. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We performed whole-genome, targeted, and RNA sequencing in representative samples of the same tumor from 44 PDXs derived from 38 patients linked to donor tumor metadata and corresponding organoids...

Monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma (MEITL) is a rare and aggressive T-cell neoplasm associated with poor survival. We report a case of MEITL that presented as an ulcerated mass in the jejunum with perforation. Microscopic examination showed that the neoplasm involved the full thickness of the intestinal wall, extended into the mesentery, and was composed of monomorphic, small to medium-size cells. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the neoplastic cells were positive for T-cell receptor (TCR) delta, CD3, CD7, CD8 (small subset), BCL-2 and TIA-1, and negative for TCR beta, CD4, CD5, CD10, CD20, CD30, CD34, CD56, CD57, CD99, ALK, cyclin D1, granzyme B, MUM1/IRF4, and TdT...
