UNLABELLED: Littre's hernia is an extremely rare type of hernia which has Meckel's diverticulum as its content. A 63-year-old male, presented to the emergency department with chief complaints of swelling and pain around the umbilicus. The patient was diagnosed with an incarcerated umbilical hernia. Following the emergency laparotomy, the intraoperative finding depicted an umbilical Littre's hernia. The patient underwent open Meckel's diverticulectomy with mesh repair. Preoperative diagnosis of Littre's hernia is unlikely due to its low incidence and lack of specific radiological and clinical findings, but the role of computed tomography scan and ultrasound are important in differentiating between strangulated or incarcerated bowel and omentum and in guiding the urgency of operative management...

PURPOSE: Umbilical metastasis, known as Sister Mary Joseph's nodule (SMJN), is a manifestation of advanced malignant disease. Patients with SMJN usually require supportive care or palliative systemic chemotherapy. However, with the increasing number of older and infirm patients, radiation therapy for SMJN is needed more frequently. Therefore, we conducted this review to provide insights into radiation treatment for this rare condition. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We searched PubMed on October 16, 2022, and obtained 275 articles that described SMJN or metastatic tumors within or near the umbilicus, as well as 255 case reports or case series (298 patients) and 20 reviews, original articles, or other study types, 1 of which also described a case...

OBJECTIVES: No consensus regarding the optimal position and location for the measurement of the inter-rectus distance (IRD) via ultrasound (US) has been reached. By investigating the intra- and interimage reliability of IRD measurements taken in different positions and at different locations within and between testers, this study provides a theoretical basis for the current situation. METHODS: The IRD was measured via US in 46 women at 42-60 days after delivery at the superior margin of the umbilicus and 3 cm above, 5 cm above and 3 cm below the umbilicus while the women were in the supine, crunch and standing positions...

BACKGROUND: Today, bariatric procedures are common. These surgeries' difficulties are classified as patient- or surgical team-related and are estimated by body mass index (BMI). More efficient methods are needed to help surgeons. This study evaluated the effect of measuring patients' subcutaneous fat tissue thickness (SFT) and umbilicus-xiphoid (DXU) to anticipate surgical difficulties. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This was a prospective retrospective data analysis study...

We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of MR elastography (MRE) using a transpelvic approach. Thirty-one patients who underwent prostate MRE and had a pathological diagnosis were included in this study. MRE was obtained using a passive driver placed at the umbilicus and iliac crests. The shear stiffness, clinical data, and conventional imaging findings of prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were compared. Inter-reader agreements were evaluated using the intraclass coefficient class (ICC). Prostate MRE was successfully performed for all patients (100% technical success rate)...

This paper employs low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) technology to meticulously analyze and explore the intricate soybean infiltration process. The methodology involves immersing soybeans in distilled water, with periodic implementation of Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) pulse sequence experiments conducted at intervals of 20 to 30 minutes to determine the relaxation time T2. Currently, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is conducted every 30 minutes. The analysis uncovers the existence of three distinct water phases during the soybean infiltration process: bound water denoted as T21, sub-bound water represented by T22, and free water indicated as T23...

PURPOSE: The impact of the combination of abdominal peripheral nerve block (PNB) and the depth of neuromuscular blockade on the surgical field were assessed. METHODS: Thirty-eight patients undergoing elective robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RARP) were randomized into two groups: a PNB group (moderate neuromuscular block [train-of-four 1-3 twitches] with abdominal PNB) and a non-PNB group (deep neuromuscular block [post-tetanic count 0-2 twitches] without abdominal PNB)...

Failure of complete or partial obliteration can result in a type of malformation known as OMD remnant. BACKGROUND: Patent omphalomesenteric duct is one of the birth defects included in the spectrum of vitelline duct abnormalities. It is a rare anomaly with estimated prevalence of 0.13-0.2% in the general population. The most common presentation of patent vitelline duct is yellowish or mucoid type umbilical discharge which is usually noted in neonatal age or infancy. The main stay of diagnosis is clinical and outcome is favorable as long as timely surgical correction is offered. Here we present a 2 years old male child who presented with ileal prolapse through patent vitelline duct which is an exceptional mode of presentation of this pathology...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Phaeochromocytomas are neuroendocrine neoplasms arising from chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla and are known as intra-adrenal paragangliomas. On the contrary, paragangliomas are non-epithelial neuroendocrine neoplasms that produce other peptide hormones such as norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine. In a setting with limited resources, such a condition may result in inaccurate diagnosis and treatment, which may lose a patient life if left untreated...

In August 2022, a 59-year-old female noted a mass in her umbilicus and sought evaluation at Toyokawa City Hospital. Abdominal computed tomography(CT)scan revealed a 1.6 cm mass in the umbilical region, ascites in the pelvis, and increased absorption in the omentum. Peritoneal dissemination of the carcinoma and Sister Mary Joseph's nodule due to an unknown primary tumor were suspected because no abnormalities were detected during upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. She underwent an umbilical lumpectomy and diagnostic laparoscopy to establish a definitive diagnosis...

A metastatic tumor of the umbilicus is called"Sister Mary Joseph's nodule", and patients with this tumor show a poor prognosis. Sister Mary Joseph's nodule is a rare occurrence, and there are few case reports. We report a case of cecal cancer first presented with the metastatic tumor in the umbilicus. A 90-year-old woman, complained umbilical induration and foul-smelling discharge, had been treated as omphalitis for 2 months. The urachus is an embryologic remnant that connects the bladder to the umbilicus and typically obliterates during gestation. Urachal cysts are one of the most common congenital urachal anomalies. Urachal cysts may be found incidentally on imaging or present as a palpable mass with abdominal pain and fever. We present a case of a young male with a urachal cyst who presented with lower urinary tract symptoms and a falsely elevated post void residual (PVR) volume on bladder scan. This case illustrates an atypical presentation of a large urachal cyst and highlights the limitations of bladder scanner post-void residual determination...
