OBJECTIVE: Increased O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) stimulation has been reported to protect against sepsis associated mortality and cardiovascular derangement. Previous studies, including our own research, have indicated that gasdermin-D(GSDMD)-mediated endothelial cells pyroptosis contributes to sepsis-associated endothelial injury. This study explored the functions and mechanisms of O-GlcNAc modification on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced pyroptosis and its effects on the function of GSDMD...

T cells are among the most potent anti-tumor cells that are found in humans. Our study sought to develop a reliable signature incorporating T cell marker genes (TMGs) for predicting the prognosis and therapy responsiveness of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients. We downloaded scRNA-seq data from the GSE181919 to identify TMGs. Subsequently, we devised a 12 TMG signature in the TCGA HNSCC cohort by using LASSO analysis. Patients with high-risk scores were shown to experience unfavorable progression-free survival, disease-specific survival, and overall survival, which was validated in the GSE65858 cohort...

The industrial implementation of covalent adaptable networks hinges on the delicate task of achieving rapid bond exchange activation at specific temperatures while ensuring a sufficiently slow exchange at working temperatures to avoid irreversible deformation. In this pursuit, latent catalysts offer a potential solution, allowing for spatiotemporal control of dynamic exchange in vitrimer networks. However, the irreversible nature of their activation has led to undesired creep deformation after multiple cycles of reprocessing...

A pyrene-based metal-organic framework, Cd2 (PTTB)(H2 O)2 (WYU - 11), was synthesized from the tetracarboxylic pyrene ligand H4 PTTB (H4 PTTB = 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(3-carboxyphenyl)pyrene) and Cd(NO3 )2 · 4H2 O. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis discloses that the framework is stable in acid, base, and various organic solvent environments. WYU-11 shows excellent catalytic performance on the cyclization reaction of propargylic amines with CO2 into 2-oxazolidinones under mild conditions (60 °C, atmospheric CO2 )...

PURPOSE: The study aimed to test the feasibility of using tensiomyography to assess the functional status of the latissimus dorsi and erector spinae muscles in girls with C-shaped low back scoliosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-five girls aged 13-15 took part in an observational (cross-sectional) study. The examination involved measurements using the tensiomyography method (TMG). Increasing environmental pollution and petroleum resource depletion are important indicators for the necessary and inevitable replacement of fossil-based polymeric materials with more sustainable counterparts. Hence, the development of bio-based materials from renewable resources, such as cellulose, is of great importance. Herein, we introduce a rapid and homogeneous microwave assisted synthesis of high molecular weight (59 kDa ≤ M n ≤ 116 kDa) short chain (mixed) cellulose esters (CEs) with variable acyl side chain length (2 ≤ C ≤ 8) by using a DMSO/TMG/CO2 switchable solvent system...

Photocages have enabled spatiotemporally governed organic materials synthesis with applications ranging from tissue engineering to soft robotics. However, the reliance on high energy UV light to drive an often inefficient uncaging process limits their utility. These hurdles are particularly evident for more reactive cargo, such as strong organobases, despite their attractive potential to catalyze a range of chemical transformations. Herein, two metal-free boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) photocages bearing tetramethylguanidine (TMG) cargo are shown to induce rapid and efficient polymerizations upon exposure to a low intensity green LED...

Thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis (TMG) had more severe symptoms and worse prognoses in comparison to non-thymoma-associated MG. Thymoma recurrence was frequently associated with transient worsening of MG and even acute respiratory failure, namely myasthenic crisis (MC). However, little is known about the clinical features and outcomes of MC in thymoma-associated MG patients. We performed a retrospective cohort study in MG patients recruited from 9 independent tertiary neuromuscular centers in China from Jan 2015, through Oct 2022...

Photobase generators (PBGs) are compounds that utilize light-sensitive chemical-protecting groups to offer spatiotemporal control of releasing organic bases upon targeted light irradiation. PBGs can be implemented as an external control to initiate anionic polymerizations such as thiol-ene Michael addition reactions. However, there are limitations for common PBGs, including a short absorption wavelength and weak base release that lead to poor efficiency in photopolymerization. Therefore, there is a great need for visible-light-triggered PBGs that are capable of releasing strong bases efficiently...

BACKGROUND: Abnormal serum magnesium (Mg) concentrations are common and associated with worse mortality in kidney-transplant recipients. Many kidney and transplant-related factors affect Mg homeostasis. The concentration of the active form, ionized Mg (iMg), is not measured clinically, and total Mg (tMg) and iMg correlations have conflicted. We hypothesized that iMg and tMg concentrations show poor categorical agreement (i.e., low, normal, and high) in kidney-transplant recipients but that ionized calcium (iCa) correlates with iMg...

The development of tumor microenvironment (TME)-activated nanoassemblies which can produce a photoacoustic (PA) signal and enhance the H2 O2 level is critical to achieve accurate diagnosis and highly efficient chemodynamic therapy (CDT). In this study, we developed nanoassemblies consisting of oxygen vacancy titanium dioxide (TiO2- x ) surface-constructed copper, sulfur-doped mesoporous organosilica and glucose oxidase (TiO2- x @Cu,S-MONs@GOx, hereafter TMG). We found that highly abundant glutathione (GSH) in the TME nanoassemblies can reduce tetrasulfide bonds and Cu2+ to sulfur ions and Cu+ in the TMG nanoassemblies, respectively, causing the breakage of the tetrasulfide bond and the mesoporous structure collapse, releasing Cu+ ions and TiO2- x nanoparticles, and producing hydrogen sulfide gas, thereby achieving synergistic multimodal tumor treatment through TME-activated NIR-II PA imaging and photothermal-enhanced gas starvation-primed CDT...

INTRODUCTION: Aberrant activation of Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase (ERK) signaling is associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis. For example, enhanced ERK signal activation mediated by Apolipoprotein E4 (APOE4), which is a critical genetic risk factor for AD, increases the transcription of amyloid precursor protein (APP). We hypothesize that O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) regulates the phosphorylation and activation of ERK. O-GlcNAc is a single sugar post-translational modification that dynamically cycles on and off proteins in response to nutrient changes by the action of the enzymes O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) and O-GlcNAcase (OGA), respectively...
