The prediction error account of delusions has had success. However, its explanation of delusions with different contents has been lacking. Persecutory delusions and paranoia are the common unfounded beliefs that others have harmful intentions towards us. Other delusions include believing that one's thoughts or actions are under external control, or that events in the world have specific personal meaning. We compare learning on two different cognitive tasks, probabilistic reversal learning (PRL) and Kamin blocking, that have relationships to paranoid and non-paranoid delusion-like beliefs, respectively...

INTRODUCTION: An integral part of Brazil's public health system, the psychiatric emergency service (PES) has been instrumental in improving qualified support for crisis situations of mental disorders, equitable, universally accessible, and humanized. The purpose of this article is to present a systematic review and consensus about the physical area and facilities, and ideal team qualified for psychiatric emergencies services on both Brazilian settings. METHODS: The authors conducted a literature search using electronic databases such as MEDLINE (PubMed), Scielo, the Cochrane Database, and documents from the WHO, the Brazilian Ministry of Health, and others deemed relevant by experts...

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension is a rare but serious condition characterized by orthostatic headaches and a variety of neurological symptoms. 1,2 Spontaneous intracranial hypotension should be considered in all patients with new onset, daily, persistent headaches, and orthostatic symptoms. It is typically caused by spontaneous spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. 1,2 Traditional first-line treatments include hydration, bedrest, epidural blood patches, and fibrin glue injections. However, refractory cases often require surgical intervention, especially those caused by a small ventral osteophyte, which is classified as a type 1 leak...

BACKGROUND: Biocontrol agents (BCAs) are alternatives to synthetic fungicides with low risk to the environment and human health. Although several studies on the biocontrol of gray mold in vineyards have been performed, it is necessary to improve the usage of BCAs in fields conditions. Therefore, in the present study, BCAs were used both in calendar- (based on four growth stages (GSs), i.e., flowering, pre-bunch closure, veraison, and before harvest) and predictive model-based strategies (only when Botrytis cinerea infection risk was predicted by the model)...

Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) produced by fermentation with a non-genetically modified strain of Ensifer adhaerens (CGMCC 21299), when used as a nutritional additive for all animal species. No viable cells or DNA of the production strain were detected in the additive. Therefore, cyanocobalamin produced by fermentation with E. adhaerens CGMCC 21299 does not raise safety concerns as regards to the production strain...

Cystinosis is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the CTNS gene that encodes cystinosin, a ubiquitous lysosomal cystine/H+ antiporter. The hallmark of the disease is progressive accumulation of cystine and cystine crystals in virtually all tissues. At the kidney level, human cystinosis is characterized by the development of renal Fanconi syndrome and progressive glomerular and interstitial damage leading to end-stage kidney disease in the second or third decade of life. The exact molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of renal disease in cystinosis are incompletely elucidated...

Saltwater stands as the most prevalent liquid on Earth. Consequently, substantial interest has been directed toward its characterization, both as an independent system and as a solvent for complex structures such as biomacromolecules. In the last few decades, special emphasis was placed on the investigation of the hydration properties of ions for the fundamental role they play in numerous chemical processes. In this study, we employed multi-wavelength Raman spectroscopy to examine the hydration shell surrounding bromide ions in solutions of simple electrolytes, specifically lithium bromide, potassium bromide, and cesium bromide, at two different concentrations...

The intestinal immune system plays a crucial role in obesity and insulin resistance. An altered intestinal immunity is associated with changes to the gut microbiota, barrier function, and tolerance to luminal antigens. Lipid metabolism and its unbalance can also contribute to acute and chronic inflammation in different conditions. In celiac disease (CD), the serum phospholipid profile in infants who developed CD is dramatically different when compared to that of infants at risk of CD not developing the disease...

BACKGROUND: novel oncologic therapies, including epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFR-Is) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), are associated with a new spectrum of adverse reactions, with prominent cutaneous toxicities. The impact of cutaneous adverse events (cAEs) on patients' quality of life (QoL) represents an unmet clinical need. OBJECTIVES: 1) to assess whether cutaneous toxicities directed therapies are effective in reducing the QoL burden via the submission of two patient reported outcome measures (PROMs); 2) to investigate whether class of oncologic therapy, type of cAE and toxicity severity differently impact on patients' QoL...

A group of Gram-negative plant-associated diazotrophic bacteria belonging to the genus Nitrospirillum was investigated, including both previously characterized and newly isolated strains from diverse regions and biomes, predominantly in Brazil. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA and recA genes revealed the formation of a distinct clade consisting of thirteen strains, separate from the formally recognized species N. amazonense (the closest species) and N. iridis. Comprehensive taxonomic analyses using the whole genomes of four strains (BR 11140T  = AM 18T  = Y-2T  = DSM 2788T  = ATCC 35120T , BR 11142T  = AM 14T  = Y-1T  = DSM 2787T  = ATCC 35119T , BR 11145 = CBAmC, and BR 12005) supported the division of these strains into two species: N...

The semiconductor industry is undergoing a transformative phase, marked by the relentless drive for miniaturization and a constant demand for higher performance and energy efficiency. However, the reduction of metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor sizes for advanced technology nodes below 10 nm presents several challenges. In response, strained silicon technology has emerged as a key player, exploiting strain induction in the silicon crystal lattice to improve device performance. At the same time, there has been a growing need for characterization techniques that allow in-line monitoring of sample conditions during semiconductor manufacturing, as an alternative to traditional methods such as transmission electron microscopy or high-resolution X-ray diffraction, which have several limitations in terms of measurement time and sample destructiveness...

The aim of this study was to investigate whether the mitotic rate is associated with other prognostic clinical and anatomopathological characteristics. Genetic causes and different phenotypes are now increasingly being identified for this condition. In addition, specific medications, such as myosin inhibitors, have been recently shown as potentially able to modify its symptoms, hemodynamic abnormalities and clinical course. Climate change and global warming have contributed to increase terrestrial drought, causing negative impacts on agricultural production. Drought stress may be addressed using novel agronomic practices and beneficial soil microorganisms, such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), able to enhance plant use efficiency of soil resources and water and increase plant antioxidant defence systems. Specific traits functional to plant resilience improvement in dry conditions could have developed in AMF growing in association with xerophytic plants in maritime sand dunes, a drought-stressed and low-fertility environment...
