BACKGROUND: Fluoxetine is an inhibitor of the main metabolizing enzymes (cytochrome P450 [CYP] 2C19 and CYP3A4) of omeprazole and thus might influence that drug's pharmacokinetics. The changes in omeprazole's pharmacokinetics may have clinical significance concerning efficacy and tolerability of the treatment. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the pharmacokinetic interaction of fluoxetine with omeprazole in healthy volunteers. METHODS: The study enrolled healthy adult men and consisted of 2 periods...

BACKGROUND: Generic omeprazole has been approved in many countries for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. However, clinical studies comparing generic to original proton pump inhibitors are limited. AIMS: To compare the effect of generic omeprazole 20 mg/day with esomeprazole 20 mg/day on intragastric acidity and to investigate the influence of the CYP2C19 metabolizer status. METHODS: In this randomised, single-blinded, two-way crossover study, 24 healthy Helicobacter pylori-negative subjects, received generic omeprazole (Omep; Hexal AG, Holzkirchen, Germany) 20 mg once daily or esomeprazole 20 mg once daily for five consecutive days...

Tests on calf coronary vessel cells (CVC) cultures showed that 3-oxi-6-methyl-2-ethylpiridine succinate (OMEPS) in dozes within 5.0-10.0 microg/ml did not decrease proliferation index, monolayer development, and viability factor. OMEPS also did not increase cytotoxicity index and did not change cytomorphological characteristics of the culture. In a concentration of 100 microg/ml, OMEPS exhibited some cytotoxyc properties, but to a lower degree compared to the reference antiarrhythmic drug moricisine (1.0-20...

The reaction of 5-carboalkoxypicolinic acid (5 ROpicH, R=Me, Et, iPr, sBu; 1 a-d) with vanadyl sulfate yielded the complexes [VO(H(2)O)(5 ROpic)(2)], 2 a-d, with H(2)O and one of the picolinato ligands in the equatorial positions, and the second picolinate occupying equatorial (N) and axial (O) positions. Reaction of 1 a with [NH(4)][VO(3)] yielded [NH(4)][VO(2)(5 MeOpic)(2)], [NH(4)]-3, in which the N functions of the picolinates are trans to the doubly bonded, cis-positioned oxo groups. Complexes 1 a.H(2)O, 1 b, 1 c, 2 a...

1. The effects of phenobarbital (PB), beta-naphthoflavone (beta-NF), omeprazole (Omep) and rifampicin (Rif) on drug-metabolizing activities in dog hepatocytes, cultured with William's medium E, were examined. 2. The drug metabolizing activities of the hepatocytes decreased during culture; 7-ethoxycoumarin O-deethylase (ECOD) activity was nearly 70% of initial value at 72 h, but 7-methoxycoumarin O-demethylase (MCOD), 7-propoxycoumarin O-depropylase (PCOD), progesterone 6 beta-hydroxylase (6 beta-OH-P), progesterone 16 alpha-hydroxylase (16 alpha-OH-P), progesterone 21-hydroxylase (21-OH-P), 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activities and total cytochrome P450 content were approx...
