1. A study was conducted to determine the effects of dried broccoli floret (DBF) on egg production parameters, egg quality, and apparent nutrient digestibility of laying hens. It was hypothesised that feeding DBF can improve egg quality without adversely affecting layer performance. 2. Seventy-two White Leghorn layers aged 62 weeks were randomly allotted to four dietary treatments (six cage replicates with three hens each) and fed diets containing 0, 40, 80, and 120 g/kg DBF in feed for 56 d. 3. Inclusion of DBF had no effect on feed intake, egg production, feed conversion ratio or egg components...

Yolk sac tumor(YST) is a rare malignancy typically occurring in children. However, bilateral testicular YSTs are a quite rare situation, which can occur metachronously or synchronously with same histologic type, as well as different histology. We present a case of synchronous YST of the left testis and mature teratoma of the right in a 7-month-old infant treated with testis-sparing surgery at right testis and high radical orchiectomy at left. By follow-up of twenty eight-month, no atrophy or residual tumor in right testis and no recurrence or evidence of disease in left scrotum was found...

HYPOTHESIS: Hollow nanospheres, characterized by a cavity inside a solid shell, have potential applications due to their unique structure, but the unchangeable morphology and permeability of the shell restrain their further practical utilization. While several smart hollow nanospheres that can respond to pH, ion strength, and temperature have been developed, they are inclined to suffer from problems associated with high energy consumption or the difficult removal of residual stimulants...

The major yolk protein toposome plays crucial roles during gametogenesis and development of sea urchins. We previously found that nitration of toposome increases in the gonads of a Paracentrotus lividus population living in a marine protected area affected by toxic blooms of Ostreospsis cf. ovata, compared to control populations. This modification is associated with ovatoxin accumulation, high levels of nitric oxide in the gonads, and a remarkable impairment of progeny development. However, nothing is known about the environmental-mediated-regulation of the structure and biological function of toposome...

We describe a case of a 26-year man with complaints of suprapubic pain and burning micturition for two weeks and intermittent hematuria for two months. On physical examination, there was palpable mobile pelvic mass measuring 10x10 cm. Both testes were palpable in the scrotum. CT scan abdomen revealed well-defined, soft tissue mass, about 11x10 cm between rectum and urinary bladder. Mass showed internal necrotic changes and enhancement along the walls. No calcification was seen. Exploratory laparotomy was done...

Background: Although oncologic testicular sperm extraction (onco-TESE) has been increasingly practiced, the evidence of onco-TESE performed in patients with testicular cancer is insufficient. Furthermore, in bilateral testicular cancer, accounting for 0.5%-1% of testicular cancers, onco-TESE is more challenging and has been insufficiently reported. Case presentation: Here we report the case of a 25-year-old man who underwent onco-TESE from his residual single testis with a nonseminomatous germ cell tumor that occurred 5 years after orchiectomy of the contralateral testis...

BACKGROUND: Primary mediastinal yolk sac tumor, which is also known as endodermal sinus tumor, is a rare but lethal neoplasm, and it is a kind of mediastinal non-seminomatous germ cell tumor. The current standard treatment in mediastinal non-seminomatous germ cell tumors is chemotherapy combined with postchemotherapy residual mass resection. We report on seven cases of primary mediastinal yolk sac tumor treated with platinum-based chemotherapy and extended resection. METHODS: We experienced seven cases of primary mediastinal yolk sac tumor between August 2014 and August 2017...

BACKGROUND: The oviparity-viviparity transition is a major evolutionary event, likely altering the reproductive process of the organisms involved. Residual yolk, a portion of yolk remaining unutilized at hatching or birth as parental investment in care, has been investigated in many oviparous amniotes but remained largely unknown in viviparous species. Here, we used data from 20 (12 oviparous and 8 viviparous) species of snakes to see if the oviparity-viviparity transition alters the partitioning of yolk in embryonic snakes...

Cubic spline function was used in a genetic evaluation to model the change of yolk proportion over the lay life. A total of 19,862 yolk proportion records of 2,324 hens was used. The evaluated submodels consisted of 3 to 6 knot models. The same knots were fitted for genetic and permanent environmental splines. The residual effects were specified to be independently and normally distributed, but with heterogeneous variance for each test week. (Co)variance components were estimated by the average information restricted maximum likelihood (AIREML) method...

Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) is a bacterial pathogen that causes production losses in layer chickens. To combat MG, multiage layer facilities vaccinate pullets by either spray or eye-drop vaccination. The objective in this study was to evaluate the use of in ovo vaccination as a potential alternative for MG vaccination. Layer embryos at 18 d of incubation were either not-injected (control), or were hand-injected with either commercial Marek's disease vaccine diluent alone or with a high, medium, low, or very low dosage of a live attenuated strain F (FMG) vaccine suspended in the commercial diluent...

Aflatoxins (AF) are toxic metabolites produced by molds, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus, which frequently contaminate poultry feed ingredients. Ingestion of AF-contaminated feed by chickens leads to deleterious effects, including decreased bird performance and reduced egg production. Moreover, AF residues in fertilized eggs result in huge economic losses by decreasing embryo viability and hatchability. This study investigated the efficacy of 2 generally recognized as safe phytochemicals, namely carvacrol (CR) and trans-cinnamaldehyde (TC), in protecting chicken embryos from AF-induced toxicity...

Sudan I is a carcinogenic industrial azo-dye, forbidden for use in food. However, it has been detected in food on several occasions, such as in paprika, used in animal husbandry to enhance egg yolk colour. Therefore, an animal experiment was designed to simulate the transfer of Sudan I to eggs after its unintentional administration to laying hens. A group of laying hens (n=18) received feed contaminated with Sudan I at the raising concentrations: 0.45mg/kg, 4.97mg/kg and 42.1mg/kg. Residues of Sudan I were detected in egg yolks (0...
