In recent years, there has been a growing interest in developing smart drug delivery systems based on natural resources combined with stimulus-sensitive elements. This trend aims to formulate innovative and sustainable delivery platforms tailored for topical applications. This work proposed the use of layer-by-layer (LbL) methodology to fabricate biocompatible photo-responsive multilayer systems. These systems are composed of a polyoxometalate inorganic salt (POM) ([NaP5 W30 O110 ]14- ) and a natural origin polymer, chitosan (CHT)...

The aim of this work was to obtain epoxy-based composite structures with good mechanical performance, high aging resistance, and an improved degradability profile. For this purpose, powdered polylactide in the amount of 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 phr was introduced into the epoxy resin, and the composites were fabricated by a simple method, which is similar to that used on an industrial scale in the fabrication of these products. The first analysis concerned the study of the effect of PLA addition to epoxy resin-based composites on their mechanical properties...

The intensive development of the polyurethanes industry and limited resources (also due to the current geopolitical situation) of the raw materials used so far force the search for new solutions to maintain high economic development. Implementing the principles of a circular economy is an approach aimed at reducing the consumption of natural resources in PU production. This is understood as a method of recovery, including recycling, in which waste is processed into PU, and then re-used and placed on the market in the form of finished sustainable products...

Using coconut shell and boric acid as raw materials, a new boron-doped coconut shell mesoporous carbon material (B-CSC) was prepared using a simple one-step pyrolysis method for efficient adsorption and removal of tetracycline pollutants in water. The effects of pyrolysis temperature and boron-carbon mass ratio on the adsorption performance under key preparation conditions were systematically studied, and their microstructure and physicochemical properties were characterized using a specific surface area and pore size analyzer (BET), field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photon spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectrometer (Raman), and Zeta potentiometer (Zeta)...

In rice-vegetable rotation systems in tropical areas, a large amount of nitrate nitrogen accumulates after fertilization in the melon and vegetable season, which leads to the leaching of nitrate nitrogen and a large amount of N2 O emission after the seasonal flooding of rice, which leads to nitrogen loss and intensification of the greenhouse effect. How to improve the utilization rate of nitrate nitrogen and reduce N2 O emissions has become an urgent problem to be solved. Six treatments were set up [200 mg·kg-1 KNO3 (CK); 200 mg·kg-1 KNO3 + 2% biochar addition (B); 200 mg·kg-1 KNO3 +1% peanut straw addition (P); 200 mg·kg-1 KNO3 + 2% biochar + 1% peanut straw addition (P+B); 200 mg·kg-1 KNO3 + 1% rice straw addition (R); 200 mg·kg-1 KNO3 + 2% biochar+1% rice straw addition (R+B)] and cultured at 25℃ for 114 d to explore the effects of organic material addition on greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen use after flooding in high nitrate nitrogen soil...

The aim of the current study was to compare some biological activities of edible oils enriched with 10% of cannabidiol (CBD samples) from the Slovak market. In addition, hemp, coconut, argan, and pumpkin pure oils were also examined. The study evaluated the fatty acids content, as well as antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, cytotoxic, and phytotoxic activities. UNLABELLED: The basal stem rot disease incidence ranged from 0 to 5% in Karnataka India during the year 2019-20. Twenty pathogenic isolates of Ganoderma sp varied with cultural characteristics and virulence on coconut seedlings of the variety Tipatur Tall. The identity of each isolate was confirmed through morphological characters and through ITS sequencing. Two isolates viz., G4 and G5 were identified as Ganoderma applanatum and remaining all isolates were identified as G. lucidum . The genetic diversity analysis of Ganoderma isolates was done using ten Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and fifteen Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) primers...

Nowadays, plant-based milks are being considered as an alternative to dairy milk due to their advantages, such as sustainability, reduced allergenicity, health benefits, and lactose-free nature. Plant-based milks are widely used in the preparation of desserts, cheese-like products, and beverages, among other applications. The aim of the present study was to formulate vegan rice puddings using various commercially available plant-based milks as a sustainable alternative to dairy milk. For this aim, central composition design was applied to optimize the key processing parameters of the Thermomix®, including temperature (80-90°C), time (6-14 min), and the amount of rice flour (6-10%, w/v), using response surface methodology (RSM)...

The number of consumers following plant-based diets has increased and in turn, the variety of plant-based foods available on the market has also increased. Many plant-based foods aim to mimic the functionality and sensory properties of conventional dairy products; however, they may not be suitable for specific populations. Dysphagia, for example, is a swallowing condition requiring texture-modified foods that meet specific criteria. While many conventional thickened products exist that are safe for individuals with dysphagia, the growing interest in plant-based eating alongside the increasing prevalence of dysphagia prompts a need for research on the use and safety of thickened plant-based alternatives...

Hydrological management in the use of peatland for agriculture is the backbone of its sustainability and a critical factor in climate change mitigation. This study evaluates the application of an integrated water management practice known as the "Water Management Trinity" (WMT), implemented since 1986 on a coconut plantation on the eastern coast of Sumatra, in relation to CO2 emissions and subsidence rates. The WMT integrates canals, dikes, and dams with water gates to regulate water levels for both coconut agronomy and the preservation of the peat soil...

Flaxseed milk is a plant-based dairy alternative that is rich in nutrients. Due to the low concentration of odor compounds in flaxseed milk, it cannot be completely extracted. This poses significant challenges for analysis. Therefore, this study developed a method suitable for extracting volatile compounds from flaxseed milk and compared it with three other extraction methods. It was found that Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction had the best extraction performance, identifying 39 odorants. Flavor dilution factors ranged from 1 to 512, with higher values observed for esters...
