The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate utilisation of supplementary techniques for pain control during root canal treatment of lower molars with irreversible pulpitis. The literature was searched using electronic databases up to year 2012. Seventeen studies with 1504 participants were included and each study compared experimental interventions with a standard treatment, i.e. the inferior alveolar nerve block. Changing the injection techniques or supplemental injection had no significant effect on pulp anaesthesia compared to the standard treatment (P = 1...

The aim of this case report was to demonstrate how the use of cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imagery is beneficial when treating a tooth with an unusual anatomic variation. A 43-year-old female patient presented to our private practice after a referral from her general dentist. Endodontic therapy was previously initiated and unable to be completed because of suspicious anatomic anatomy. CBCT imagery confirmed the presence of a C-shaped root configuration and 3 canals within the tooth. Root canal treatment was completed successfully without complications...

The loss of upper front dental elements causes functional and psychosocial problems to the affected individuals. In this case report, the treatment planning considered hard and soft tissue loss for a complex fixed partial denture (FPD) rehabilitation. The six-element, all-ceramic FPD was manufactured using a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing system with zirconia framework, veneered with leucite-reinforced ceramic. Ceramic artificial gum was also produced to guarantee tooth-facial proportions as well as lip support, promoting both esthetics and phonetics...

Anatomical variations should be kept in mind in clinical and carefully looked for in radiographic evaluation during endodontic treatment of maxillary premolars. These teeth have highly variable root canal morphology. Although three separate roots in the maxillary first premolars have been reported, it is a rarity to find both the first and second premolars possessing three separate roots. This case report describes the diagnosis and endodontic management of maxillary first and second premolars with three canals and three separate roots...

In this second part of a diptych on bruxism, the focus is on the associations of this masticatory muscle activity with other sleep-related conditions. Its association with the obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) has been a particular object of study. Bruxism seems to play a protective role in OSAS, although the evidence for this is not yet conclusive. Apart from this possible positive consequence, bruxism also has several negative consequences, for which evidence is available to a greater or lesser extent...
