Wide field of view microscopy that can resolve 3D information at high speed and spatial resolution is highly desirable for studying the behaviour of freely moving model organisms. However, it is challenging to design an optical instrument that optimises all these properties simultaneously. Existing techniques typically require the acquisition of sequential image snapshots to observe large areas or measure 3D information, thus compromising on speed and throughput. Here, we present 3D-RAPID, a computational microscope based on a synchronized array of 54 cameras that can capture high-speed 3D topographic videos over an area of 135 cm2, achieving up to 230 frames per second at spatiotemporal throughputs exceeding 5 gigapixels per second...

OBJECTIVE: Suicidal behavior is heritable and is a major cause of death worldwide. Two large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWASs) recently discovered and cross-validated genome-wide significant (GWS) loci for suicide attempt (SA). The present study leveraged the genetic cohorts from both studies to conduct the largest GWAS meta-analysis of SA to date. Multi-ancestry and admixture-specific meta-analyses were conducted within groups of significant African, East Asian, and European ancestry admixtures...

SETTING: Swedish ICUs, between 2011 and 2017. PATIENTS: Adult patients (≥18 yr old) recorded in the Swedish Intensive Care Registry (SIR). INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: ICU-CA was defined as a first episode of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and/or defibrillation following an ICU admission, as recorded in SIR or the Swedish Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Registry...

We present the formation of a cheap and environmentally friendly working electrode material for glucose biosensors with good catalytic properties. The classic electrode in such devices consists of a conductive material modified with the enzyme glucose oxidase. The working principle is the electrochemical detection of hydrogen peroxide as a product of the enzymatic transformation of glucose. As a base material, we offer manganese dioxide; it is a natural highly selective catalyst for the decomposition of H2 O2 and is electrochemically deposited onto the surface of ITO...

OBJECTIVE: Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation effectively reduces symptomatic burden. However, its long-term effect on mortality and stroke is unclear. We investigated if patients with atrial fibrillation who undergo catheter ablation have lower risk for all-cause mortality or stroke than patients who are managed medically. METHODS: We retrospectively included 5628 consecutive patients who underwent first-time catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation between 2008 and 2018 at three major Swedish electrophysiology units...

BACKGROUND: Volunteer responder dispatch to nearby out-of-hospital cardiac arrests using a smartphone application can increase the proportion of patients receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is unknown how population density is related to the efficacy of a volunteer responder system. This study aimed to compare the response time of volunteer responders and EMS dispatched to suspected OHCAs in areas of different population density. METHODS: A total of 2630 suspected OHCAs in Stockholm County during 2018-2020 where at least one dispatched volunteer responder reached the patient were identified through the HeartRunner™ application database...

Xylan that comprises roughly 25% of hardwood biomass is undesirable in biorefinery applications involving saccharification and fermentation. Efforts to reduce xylan levels have therefore been made in many species, usually resulting in improved saccharification. However, such modified plants have not yet been tested under field conditions. Here we evaluate the field performance of transgenic hybrid aspen lines with reduced xylan levels and assess their usefulness as short-rotation feedstocks for biorefineries...

BACKGROUND: Pressure-controlled face mask ventilation (PC-FMV) with positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) after apnoea following induction of general anaesthesia prolongs safe apnoea time and reduces atelectasis formation. However, depending on the set inspiratory pressure, a delayed confirmation of a patent airway might occur. We hypothesised that by lowering the peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) when using PC-FMV with PEEP, confirmation of a patent airway would not be delayed as studied by the first return of CO2 , compared with manual face mask ventilation (Manual FMV)...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Trastuzumab was introduced in Sweden in 2000 for treatment of HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC) and later expanded to early breast cancer (EBC). This study aims to estimate the lifecycle value of trastuzumab by combining randomised trial data with Swedish routine-care data. Microsatellites are polymorphic tracts of short tandem repeats with one to six base-pair (bp) motifs and are some of the most polymorphic variants in the genome. Using 6084 Icelandic parent-offspring trios we estimate 63.7 (95% CI: 61.9-65.4) microsatellite de novo mutations (mDNMs) per offspring per generation, excluding one bp repeats motifs (homopolymers) the estimate is 48.2 mDNMs (95% CI: 46.7-49.6). Intensive forestry practices have had a negative impact on boreal forest biodiversity, subsequently the need for restoration is pressing. Polypores (wood-inhabiting fungi) are key decomposers of dead-wood, but due to the lack of coarse woody debris (CWD) in forest ecosystems many species are threatened. Here, we study the long-term effects on polypore diversity of two restoration treatments; creating CWD by felling whole trees and prescribed burning. This large-scale experiment is located in spruce dominated boreal forests in southern Finland...
