This study involved the preparation of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOF)-derived Co8 FeS8 @Co1-x S nanoenzymes with strong interfacial interactions. The nanoenzymes presented the peroxidase (POD)-like activity and the oxidation activity of reduced glutathione (GSH). Accordingly, the dual activities of Co8 FeS8 @Co1-x S provided a self-cascading platform for producing significant amounts of hydroxyl radical (•OH) and depleting reduced glutathione, thereby inducing tumor cell apoptosis and ferroptosis. More importantly, the Co8 FeS8 @Co1-x S inhibited the anti-apoptosis protein B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) and activated caspase family proteins, which caused tumor cell apoptosis...

Artificial insemination (AI) technology has greatly promoted the development of the chicken industry. Recently, AI technology has also begun to be used in the duck industry, but there are some problems. Numerous researchers have shown that microbes colonizing in semen can degrade semen quality, and AI can increase the harmful microbial load in hen's reproductive tract. Different from the degraded external genitalia of roosters, drakes have well-developed external genitalia, which may cause drake semen to be more susceptible to microbial contamination...

This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between inflammatory cytokines and the risk of varicose veins. The data were sourced from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of European individuals. Multiple Mendelian randomization (MR) methods were used to evaluate the association between inflammatory cytokines and varicose veins. The study found significant associations between elevated levels of certain inflammatory biomarkers (e.g., CASP-8, Vascular endothelial growth factor A levels (VEGF_A)) and an increased risk of varicose veins, while others (e...

The skeleton is a vital organ providing structural support in poultry. Weakness in bone structure can lead to deformities, osteoporosis, cage fatigue, and fractures, resulting in economic losses. Research has substantiated that genetic factors play a significant role in influencing bone quality. The discovery of genetic markers associated with bone quality holds paramount importance for enhancing genetic traits related to the skeletal system in poultry. This study analyzed nine phenotypic indicators of tibia quality in 120-day-old ducks...

To comprehensively provide insight into goose fatty liver formation, we performed an integrative analysis of the liver transcriptome, lipidome, and amino acid metabolome, as well as peripheral adipose tissue transcriptome analysis using samples collected from the overfed geese and normally fed geese. Transcriptome analysis showed that liver metabolism pathways were mainly enriched in glucolipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism, inflammation response, and cell cycle; peripheral adipose tissue and the liver cooperatively regulated liver lipid accumulation during overfeeding...

Colloidal quantum dots with lower surface ligand density are desired for preparing the active layer for photovoltaic, lighting, and other potential optoelectronic applications. In emerging perovskite quantum dots (PQDs), the diffusion of cations is thought to have a high energy barrier, relative to that of halide anions. Herein, we investigate the fast cross cation exchange approach in colloidal lead triiodide PQDs containing methylammonium (MA+ ) and formamidinium (FA+ ) organic cations, which exhibits a significantly lower exchange barrier than inorganic cesium (Cs+ )-FA+ and Cs+ -MA+ systems...

Liver transplantation (LT) was originally described by Starzl as a promising strategy to treat primary malignancies of the liver. Confronted with high recurrence rates, indications drifted towards non-oncologic liver diseases with LT finally evolving from a high-risk surgery to an almost routine surgical procedure. Continuously improving outcomes following LT and evolving oncological treatment strategies have driven renewed interest in transplant oncology. This is not only reflected by constant refinements to the criteria for LT in patients with HCC, but especially by efforts to expand indications to other primary and secondary liver malignancies...

Age at first egg (AFE) has consistently garnered interest as a crucial reproductive indicator within poultry production. Previous studies have elucidated the involvement of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) and hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axes in regulating poultry sexual maturity. Concurrently, there was evidence suggesting a potential co-regulatory relationship between these 2 axes. However, as of now, no comprehensive exploration of the key pathways and genes responsible for the crosstalk between the HPO and HPT axes in the regulation of AFE has been reported...

Resistance to standard of care taxane and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) causes the vast majority of prostate cancer (PC) deaths worldwide. We have developed RapidCaP, an autochthonous genetically engineered mouse model of PC. It is driven by the loss of PTEN and p53, the most common driver events in PC patients with life-threatening diseases. As in human ADT, surgical castration of RapidCaP animals invariably results in disease relapse and death from the metastatic disease burden. Fatty Acid Binding Proteins (FABPs) are a large family of signaling lipid carriers...

The human brain efficiently processes only a fraction of visual information, a phenomenon termed attentional control, resulting in energy savings and heightened adaptability. Translating this mechanism into artificial visual neurons holds promise for constructing energy-efficient, bioinspired visual systems. Here, we propose a self-rectifying artificial visual neuron (SEVN) based on a NiO/Ga2 O3 bipolar heterojunction with attentional control on patterns with a target color. The device exhibits short-term potentiation (STP) with quantum point contact (QPC) traits at low bias and transitions to long-term potentiation (LTP) at high bias, particularly facilitated by electron capture in deep defects upon ultraviolet (UV) exposure...

Allometric growth of the forelimb and hindlimb is a widespread phenomenon observed in vertebrates. As a typical precocial bird, ducks exhibit more advanced development of their hindlimbs compared to their forelimbs, enabling them to walk shortly after hatching. This phenomenon is closely associated with the development of long bones in the embryonic stage. However, the molecular mechanism governing the allometric growth of duck forelimb and hindlimb bones is remains elusive. In this study, we employed phenotypic, histological, and gene expression analyses to investigate developmental differences between the humerus (forelimb bone) and tibia/femur (hindlimb bones) in duck embryos...

The current study created three novel chitosan derivatives named BACS, PIBACS, and MHBACS by grafting benzoic acid (BA), p-isopropyl benzoic acid (PIBA), and m-hydroxybenzoic acid (MHBA) onto chitosan (CS). The structures of the derivatives were investigated using infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (13 C NMR). The derivatives were discovered to be 45.06 %-60.49 % substituted using elemental analysis (EA). Based on the findings of in vitro antioxidant experiments (hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, superoxide anion radical scavenging activity, and DPPH radical scavenging activity), all of the derivatives had a higher hydroxyl radical scavenging activity than the chitosan raw material...
