In Japan, indications for opioid analgesics, once exclusively used as pain killers for patients suffering from malignant cancer, have been expanded for a wide range of pain. Herein we report a patient with opioid-induced delirium associated with the administration of buprenorphine patches that was well below the indicated therapeutic range limit. An 82-year-old woman was referred to us from an orthopaedic practitioner for uncontrollable behavioural problems apparently caused by the beginning of dementia; the patient had gradually developed disorientation, visual hallucinations, and delusions...

STUDY DESIGN: This case report shows primary natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma originating in the spine as the first case of successful treatment with autologous stem cell transplantation, along with case presentation and literature review. OBJECTIVE: For the proper treatment of this spinal tumor, the pathologic confirmation includes immunophenotypic profiling, the understanding of tumor characteristics, and the consideration of spinal stability are necessary...

Osteocalcin (OC), a major noncollagenous bone matrix protein, is expressed prevalently in prostate cancer epithelial cells, adjacent fibromuscular stromal cells, and osteoblasts in locally recurrent prostate cancer and prostate cancer bone metastasis [Matsubara, S., Wada, Y., Gardner, T.A., Egawa, M., Park, M.S., Hsieh, C.L., Zhau, H.E., Kao, C., Kamidono, S., Gillenwater, J.Y., and Chung, L.W. (2001). Cancer Res. 61, 6012-6019]. We constructed an adenovirus vector carrying osteocalcin promoter-driven herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (Ad-OC-hsv-TK) to cotarget prostate cancer cells and their surrounding stromal cells...

The synthetic immunomodulator Linomide, a quinoline-3-carboxamide, has a profound inhibitory influence in several experimental autoimmune diseases, including acute and chronic experimental allergic encephalomyelitis. In a double-blind trial, 31 patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis were randomized to oral doses of 2.5 mg Linomide or placebo once a day for six months. Fourteen patients receiving Linomide and 14 receiving placebo completed the trial, and the results were based on this population...
