The purpose of this study was to evaluate the completeness and accuracy of data extracted from surgical reports, using the example of Dupuytren's disease. Material and Methods Between 1999 and 2007, surgical data were retrospectively collected from all primary Dupuytren's disease procedures performed at an academic department for plastic and reconstructive surgery and analysed for completeness. Till date, no analytical method published to detect Cisplatin has been validated according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). We report, a validated LC-MS/MS method for quantitative determination of cisplatin in rat plasma and urine according to FDA guidlines. Cisplatin is a platinum containing compound used for the treatment of different types of cancers. Quantitative determination of cisplatin has been carried out using atomic absorption spectroscopy, high pressure liquid chromatography with phosphorescence, ultra-violet detection, or with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry...

Making final decisions on the occupational etiology of musculoskeletal diseases is often difficult and problematic at every stage of the diagnostic procedure. Taking into account the need to facilitate decision-making about the causal relationship between the diagnosed disease entity and the working conditions guidelines for the recognition of work-related musculoskeletal diseases have been developed. This paper presents the guidelines for the diagnosis of occupational etiology of humeral epicondylitis, one of the most common occupational disease of the musculoskeletal system in Poland...

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of an age-dependent D-Dimer cut-off in patients who underwent a computed tomography pulmonary angiogram (CTPA) for suspected pulmonary embolism (PE) Material and Methods: Retrospective application of an age-dependent D-dimer cut-off (age/100 in patients aged over 50) in 530 consecutive patients, both in- and outpatients, aged over 18, who underwent CTPA for suspected PE according to the guidelines. RESULTS: The application of an age-dependent D-dimer cut-off showed a now negative test-result in 17 of 530 patients (3...

BACKGROUND AND STUDY OBJECTIVES: The assessment of the renal function of patients with a deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism (VTE patients) is of utmost importance for the selection/dosage of an agent in the initial anticoagulation management of these patients because the majority of available anticoagulants are cleared renally. Specifically, there is a high risk of drug accumulation and subsequent bleedings in patients with severe renal insufficiency. Consequently, specific recommendations have been made for the initial anticoagulation management of these patients in both product labels and AWMF treatment recommendations: some drugs should not be used in these patients, for other drugs a careful use, intensified screening (anti-Xa), or, in the case of enoxaparin, a dose-adjustment are recommended...

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) currently is one oft the most common reasons for chronic liver injury in the western world. In the European and American population the prevalence is up to 30 %. The medical supply of German patients with NAFLD is variable and has not been analyzed to date. METHODS: We sent questionnaires to all university liver centers in Germany (11 questions) concerning the medical supply of patients with NAFLD. Questions included the rate of patients with fatty liver disease in the outpatient clinics, metabolic comorbidities and the kind of assignment...

AIM: To validate the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines risk stratification system based on the combination of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and proteinuria. METHODS: This was a cohort study. A total of 1219 study population were recruited. Estimated GFR and proteinuria measured by using 24 h urine protein excretion rate (PER) were predictors. Adverse outcomes included all-cause mortality (ACM) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD)...

UNLABELLED: Diverticular disease and diverticulitis represent an increasingly common disease especially in patients with advanced age. The German Society of Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGVS) as well as the German Society of General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) in collaboration with the German Radiology Society (DRG) created and published S2k guidelines regarding this topic. Knowledge of the diagnosis and therapy of this common disease is extremely important for the radiologist for the daily clinical routine...

Losartan potassium, Valsartan , Telmisartan and Irbesartan are angiotensin-II-receptor antagonists (ARA II) group which used in treatment of hypertension alone or in combination with other drugs mainly Hydrochlorothiazide. RP- HPLC method was developed for the assay of three angiotensin-II-receptor antagonists (ARA-IIs) in presence of Hydrochlorothiazide. The method was performed by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography using a mobile phase which is consisted of 0.025 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate (pH 6...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the molecular genetic basis of samples with ABO typing discrepancy and provide the guidline for identification and clinical transfusion for these samples. METHODS: Six cases with similar serological characteristics were collected. Serological method, PCR-SSP and direct sequencing of ABO gene were used to explore the underlying mechanism. Condition of clinical transfusion of patients was also reviewed. RESULTS: Three conditions were related with the ABO blood type discrepancy, which included weaken antigen (2 cases), weakened antibody (3 cases) and ABO subtype (1 case)...
