Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have an increased risk of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality. Recently, brain has been described also as a target organ for diabetic microvascular complications. Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) may cause lacunar infarcts and cognitive dysfunction.
