Secundum atrial septum defect (ASD) is the most common congenital heart disease. It is usually treated by a transcatheter approach using a femoral venous access. In case of bilateral femoral vein occlusion, the internal jugular venous approach for ASD closure is an option, in particular in cases where ASD balloon occlusion test and sizing is needed. Here, we report on a new technique for ASD closure using a venous-arterial circuit from the right internal jugular vein to the femoral artery. Two patients (females, 4 and 10 years of age) had occlusion of both femoral veins because of a previous history of pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum, for which they underwent percutaneous radiofrequency perforation and balloon angioplasty...

UNLABELLED: Late atrial wall and aorta erosion is a rare cause of potential fatallity in patients who have undergone percutaneous closure of an atrial septal defect, especially when a high ratio device to defect is chosen, and an insufficient aortic rim is present. We report the case of a 70 year old male with an episode of hemodinamic collapse secondary to cardiac tamponade due to a late erosion of a 4 years ago implanted Amplatzer(®) used to close an atrial septal defect. CONCLUSION: Very late wall erosion of an atrial septal closure device, although uncommon, should be suspected in patients presenting with hemodynamic collapse...

INTRODUCTION: Transcatheter atrial septal defect (ASD) closure is considered to be a gold standard for patients with the suitable anatomy as compared to cardiac surgery. Reocurrence of ASD after surgical closure is a very rare late complication which can be successfully managed with transcatheter procedure. CASE REPORT: We reported a female patient with Noonan syndrome who presented with hemodinamically significant ASD 37 years after the corrective cardiac surgery...

INTRODUCTION: Stent entrapment and dislodgement in the coronary arteries is a rare but potentially fatal complication of percutaneous coronary intervention. Different retrival techniques of dislodged stents have previously been reported with high success rate but all of them are time-consuming, so as not quite useful in hemodinamically unstable patient. CASE REPORT: A 59-year old female patient with acute ST-elevation myocardial infaction of anterior wall was admitted for primary percutanous coronary intervention...

Pharmacological studies have suggested that I1-imidazoline receptors are involved in the regulation of cardiovascular function and that selective I1-agonists, devoid of the side effects associated with the common hypotensive α2-adrenoreceptor agonists, might be considered as a second generation of centrally acting antihypertensives. Therefore, in the present study, inspired by the antihypertensive behavior of our selective I1-agonist 4, we designed, prepared, and studied the novel analogues 5-9. A selective I1-profile, associated with significant hemodinamic effects, was displayed by 5, 8, and 9...

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a common disease with a considerable short- and long-term risk of death. An adequate evaluation of the prognosis in patients with PE may guide decision making in terms of the intensity of the initial treatment during the acute phase, duration of treatment, and intensity of follow-up control visits in the long term. Patients with shock or persistent hypotension are at high risk of early mortality and may benefit from immediate reperfusion. Several tools are available to define the short-term prognosis of hemodynamically stable patients...

Renal angiomyolipoma is a benign tumor, composed of adipocytes, smooth muscle cells and blood vessels. The association with pregnancy is rare and related with an increased risk of complications, including rupture with massive retroperitoneal hemorrhage. The follow-up is controversial because of the lack of known cases, but the priorities are: timely diagnosis in urgent cases and a conservative treatment when possible. The mode of delivery is not consensual and should be individualized to each case. We report a case of a pregnant woman with 18 weeks of gestation admitted in the emergency room with an acute right low back pain with no other symptoms...

BACKGROUND: Current literature provides limited data on the hemodynamic changes that may occur during bi-level continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) support in preterm infants. However, the application of a positive end-expiratory pressure may be transmitted to the heart and the great vessels resulting in changes of central blood flow. OBJECTIVE: To assess changes in central blood flow in infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) during bi-level CPAP support...

BACKGROUND: Cervical pregnancy (CP) is a life-threatening condition that represents less than one percent of all ectopic pregnancies. Transvaginal sonography (TVS) is the gold standard for an accurate diagnosis. For hemodinamically stable women the available treatments involve a medical therapy, alone or in combination with interventional measures (hysteroscopy, angiographic embolization or laparoscopic ligation of uterine arteries). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The authors describe a CP unsuccessfully treated with methotrexate (MTX), but resolved with hysteroscopy...
