OBJECTIVES: Presence of aberrant internal carotid artery (ICA) in the tympanic cavity is a very rare case and therefore the diagnosis is a challenge. Here, the authors aimed to address the importance of the diagnosis since the intervention to the middle ear and implants is increasing in number and this condition may lead to life-threatening bleeding. INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to investigate cochlear functions in patients with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). METHODS: Twenty-nine HG patients (58 ears) and 31 healthy control subjects (62 ears) were included. Audiometry testings at 250 and 500 Hz and 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 kHz were performed to the patients and controls. The objective of the present study was to analysis results of the follow-up survey involving 1,532 patients with laryngeal cancer residing in Moscow for the period from 1999 till 2005. The five-year survival rates among the patients treated in otolaringological departments of general medical care settings (12.6%) and in specialized oncological centers of Moscow (87.4%) were compared. The difference between the outcomes of the treatment are attributable to a variety of causes.
