This paper proposes a novel filtering design, from a viewpoint of identification instead of the conventional nonlinear estimation schemes (NESs), to improve the performance of orbit state estimation for a space target. First, a nonlinear perturbation is viewed or modeled as an unknown input (UI) coupled with the orbit state, to avoid the intractable nonlinear perturbation integral (INPI) required by NESs. Then, a simultaneous mean and covariance correction filter (SMCCF), based on a two-stage expectation maximization (EM) framework, is proposed to simply and analytically fit or identify the first two moments (FTM) of the perturbation (viewed as UI), instead of directly computing such the INPI in NESs...

The accuracy to which Cu and Al coatings can be determined, and the effect this has on the quantification of the substrate, is investigated. Cu and Al coatings of nominally 5, 10, 15, and 20 nm were sputter coated onto polished Bi using two configurations of coater: One with the film thickness monitor (FTM) sensor colocated with the samples, and one where the sensor is located to one side. The FTM thicknesses are compared against those calculated from measured Cu Lα and Al Kα k-ratios using PENEPMA, GMRFilm, and DTSA-II...

BACKGROUND: Falcotentorial meningiomas (FTM) stand out for their rarity, inconsistent definition, and surgical complexity. It is appropriate to deal with them in the context of medial tentorial meningiomas (MTM). METHODS: Clinical and radiological characteristics of MTM, comprising the typical features of FTM and tentorial meningioma (TM) along with surgical management, short- and long-term outcomes, are reported . RESULTS: FTM (n=16) were typically supratentorial, large, edematous tumors that caused mainly headache and hemianopia; TM (n=12) were infratentorial, smaller not edematous tumors that caused mainly headache and gait ataxia...

Body dissatisfaction plays an important role in the development of psychiatric problems such as eating disorders as well as gender dysphoria (GD). Cross-sex hormonal treatment (CHT) alleviates the dissatisfaction by making various changes in the body. We examined the alteration of body uneasiness, eating attitudes and behaviors, and psychological symptoms longitudinally in Turkish participants with female-to-male gender dysphoria (FtM GD) after CHT. Thirty-seven participants with FtM GD and 40 female controls were asked to complete the Body Uneasiness Test to explore different areas of body-related psychopathology, the Eating Attitudes Test to assess eating disturbances, and the Symptom Checklist-90 Revised to measure psychological state, both before CHT and after 6 months of CHT administration...

Context: Little is known about the health of transgender adults in the United States, a growing population. There have been no large reports examining differences in health status and cardiometabolic disease in subgroups of transgender adults [female-to-male (FTM), male-to-female (MTF), and gender nonconforming (GNC)] in the United States. Objective: Compare the health status and prevalence of cardiometabolic disease among specific subgroups of transgender adults (FTM, MTF, GNC) with those of cisgender adults in the United States...

INTRODUCTION: The characteristic features of Papanicolaou (Pap) tests collected from female-to-male (FTM) transgender patients on androgen therapy have not been well defined in the literature. FTM transgender patients require cervical cancer screening with the same recommended frequency as cis-gender females. Dysplasia remains challenging to differentiate from atrophy. Without pertinent history, the atrophic findings in younger transgender patients can be misinterpreted as high-grade dysplasia...

Hepatic steatosis is an abnormal state where excess lipid mass is accumulated in hepatocyte vesicles. Backscattered ultrasound signals received from the liver contain useful information regarding the degree of steatosis in the liver. The homodyned-K (HK) distribution has been demonstrated as a general model for ultrasound backscattering. The estimator based on the first three integer moments (denoted as "FTM") of the intensity has potential for practical applications because of its simplicity and low computational complexity...

Frequency-to-time mapping (FTM) is a technique used to mirror the spectral shape of an optical waveform in the time domain. The regular approach, based on the far-field condition, requires large amounts of dispersion for successful mapping. However, when the far-field condition is insurmountable for achieving a desired temporal profile, another technique, termed near-field FTM, can be employed to assist with the mapping. For the first time, we demonstrate a shaper-assisted near-field FTM using entangled photon pairs...

Most female-to-male (FTM) transgender men retain their cervixes and need comprehensive sexual health care, including cervical cancer screening. According to the literature, FTM individuals obtain cervical cancer screening less frequently and are less likely to be up to date on their Pap tests compared with cisgender women. Misinformation related to human papillomavirus and cervical cancer risk was noted for health care providers and FTM individuals. Absence of transgender-specific guidelines or trained health care providers presents barriers to cervical cancer screening for FTM individuals, and further research is indicated to develop comprehensive guidelines unique to the needs and experiences of this population...

Micro-Pattern Gas Detectors (MPGDs) are a new generation of gaseous detectors that have been developed thanks to advances in micro-structure technology. The main features of the MPGDs are: high rate capability (>50 MHz/cm2 ); excellent spatial resolution (down to 50 μm); good time resolution (down to 3 ns); reduced radiation length, affordable costs, and possible flexible geometries. A new detector layout has been recently proposed that aims at combining both the high spatial resolution and high rate capability (100 MHz/cm2 ) of the current state-of-the-art MPGDs with a high time resolution...

In the United States, an increasing number of individuals are identifying as transgender. Males at birth who identify as females are called male-to-female (MTF) transgender individuals or trans women, and females at birth who identify as males are called female-to-male (FTM) transgender individuals or trans men. The transgender patient population possess unique health concerns disparate from those of the general populace. Exogenous hormone therapy for transgender patients leads to changes in the distribution and pattern of hair growth...

Although singly ablating Fabp1 or Scp2/Scpx genes may exacerbate the impact of high fat diet (HFD) on whole body phenotype and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), concomitant upregulation of the non-ablated gene, preference for ad libitum fed HFD, and sex differences complicate interpretation. Therefore, these issues were addressed in male and female mice ablated in both genes (Fabp1/Scp2/Scpx null or TKO) and pair-fed HFD. Wild-type (WT) males gained more body weight as fat tissue mass (FTM) and exhibited higher hepatic lipid accumulation than WT females...

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), a condition of raised intracranial pressure, is characterised by headaches and visual disturbances. Its pathogenesis is currently unknown; however, dysregulation of androgens may be implicated. Here, the authors present a case of a 22-year-old patient undergoing female-to-male (FTM) gender reassignment who developed IIH shortly after commencing testosterone therapy. This interesting case presents the possibility of androgens having a pathogenic role in IIH.
